View Full Version : Your TLE milestones...
OK, it's just occured to me, that I have an anniversary on Monday - no not my wedding - something much more important than that (*jk*), the anniversary of my first TLE gig!!!!
Yep, 9 years, 51 gigs and countless kilometres and dollars later, I thought it might be nice if we all share some of the TLE milestones that are special to each of us!!
Here's mine:
Sep 18, '97 - First time seeing TLE as TLE.
Feb 28, '98 - First meeting of Scott!
Nov 16, '98 - First time meeting Chris. First LATW.
Sep 28, '99 - First side of stage. First partial meeting of Trav.
Oct 20, '00 - Palladium gig - first secret show, and soooo excited!
LATW '00 - First time properly meeting Trav. Soooo loved his passion.
Sep '01 - The accident... Thought my world had stopped.
June 28(?)'02 - Redwings, The 'Ev - First time meeting Andy!
Dont get me wrong, there are sooooooo many fav moments that still make me smile from over the years, but these are the more major milestones that stand out :)
So share! :D

I only have a few highlights due to lack of money and because no one ever comes to tassie, so I have to fly to see them!
Dec 04 - First ever TLE concert, even though it was at the Falls Festival. I was slightly (make that more than slightly!) drunk and so happy that they were right there in front of me playing all of my fave songs! Falls hasn't been the same since! :p
May 06 - First time seeing the boys play on their own tour. First time I have been outta tassie for a concert.
- Also the first time I got to actually see them...as in "hello!-there-they-are- just-20-meters-away" sort of seeing! But I couldn't stop to say Hi as they needed to go (they came outta soundcheck and wanted food or something! :(
TOMORROW NIGHT!! - First time I will see the boys on their own tour in Tassie. I was only 10 or 11 when they last toured (1999) and couldn't go :(
They've been to Tassie a few other times (twice i think) but that was for festivals, and festivals just aint the same when it comes to a TLE performance!!

for me the first would be getting the self titled album in '99 or '98 I don't remember hah. I've only had the chance to see them once so far and that was just last month and that was the best gig I've ever seen.
I was gunna try and write this last night, but I was mildly shakey and delerious, so it probabaly would have come out like this:
2001: fir6t ti4e 1 me7 chis....
But I'm kinda feeling with it today, so here are my TLE milestones:
1997: Yr. 9 at school, My sister and I used to listen to Triple J ad nauseum, LOVED the Brekkie show with Paul McDermott, Mikey robbins, and I can't remember the chick, anyways, From Here On In was played every brekkie show without fail, Ton's fell in love, I wasn't so sure...
1997(still stuck here, yes!): My sister bought I'ts For Your Own Good(spelling mistakes for authenticity! haha), and played it all the time. Its not so fun waking up at 2am when your sister comes home from a big night of drinking or 6 am when she has to get up for uni, to From Here on In, but I was caught hook line and sinker by now. My sis moved out not too long after that, so my musical muse was gone, and I was left to form my own musical taste.
1998: New single SS/POS came out and I bought it for my sis, her comments exactly: "Second solution is soooo much better than Prisoner Of Society, blah blah blah", I liked, and caught on when I saw the film clip, least to say, I though Chris was "hawt" as I would have put it in those days!
1999: My first TLE gig!!!!! BDO 1999, was such a fucking good show, I stood all the way up the back, dancing like a girl possessed and screaming my lungs out. Most people thought I was crazy, then again most people still do!
2001: The first time I had a real conversation with Chris, I was doing my work experience on Warped, went up and introduced myself, and he said "I know your name", I blushed and tried to stumble through the rest of the converstation somehow, and also had someone cut in the middle of our conversation and tell Chris "She is like one of your biggest fans ever", ARGH! hahahaha
hmmm thats all I can remember right now...

Ooher...
Late 2004.. recorded Sum 41's rage, watched the Green Day and TLE videos repeatedly for the next few months
after this I joined the forum under the name 'I'm Gonna Save Us' and make my first post, about Chris looking like he's gonna hit his head in the WER clip.
Dec.6 2004: Bought FHOI cd with bonus covers cd.. the next week it was $6 cheaper! oh well
Christmas. got the DVD, watched it, saw the End Of The World solo, immediately went out and bought...
Dec 30. Modern Artillery (I keep all my reciepts :p )
Early 2005, find the WGSU single at a Target, walk around for 30 minutes wodering if I really should buy it.. thankfully I did!
July 2005 - get sick of Green Day, buy S/T and listen to it ad nauseum
Later that year - buy Roll On. By now they were well and truely my favourite band!
Dec?Went to the Vbus thingy alone. Bought WOYR and listened to it ad nauseum.
early 2006pre-order SOE, buy Hellbound/IFYOG and some other singles. And lots of merch
Around 'Wake Up' I got out of school early to go meet TLE at a signing, with Ally. Freaked out. They liked my drawing
May 19th Festy Hall. First real TLE gig. Excited
5 days Seeing TLE at The Palace, TENT!
..yeah lots of little things.. hehe
i was chatting to Mel last night and discovered that she'd only been into them comparatively recently - that messed with my brain!
i love hearing everyone's milestones though - it's really interesting!
i shall post mine one day when i am not at work

Yeah, but I dunno if that's a good thing or not.. hahaha!
and you are fogiven for using the word 'hardcore' :p
anyone else got some milestones
alright - consider my arm twisted:
1997/98: heard Prisoner of Society - loved it
december of 98: (i think) remember clearly having a discussion/debate about "the generation gap" as sparked by the line from the song...
1999/2000: borrowed the ST album from a friend and took it on holidays with me - whilst on holidays i bought the CD first shop i saw it
2001: first gig (and secong gig) in June (at the roundhouse) - i cried during All Torn Down
2003: listened to every CD i had of theirs at least twice a week as part of a "pre game ritual" all of a sudden my team started winning - they ended up winning the grand final...
2003: met the boys at a sound check - they were beautiful people, that night i went to the gig (Selinas at the CBH) best show i've ever been to bar none best bruise i've ever got too
man - my list sucks!
:(
*M!
at least you've met/seen them :D
haha yeah
i made a dickhead of myself in front of Chris
and Scotty made me laugh!
Andy was just nice
*M!
thats cool. yes...its cool to make a dickhead of yourself infront of people :D

I have so many Milestones I wouldn't know where to begin.
But at BDO this year in Melbourne it was 7 years to the day since I first met Chris in the Jar mosh at BDO on the Gold Coast..... which I thought was pretty special lol, since Mayb's and I ran into him in the mosh again!!
different state and different mosh, but how cool. And he was as friendly as always. I love that man lol :P

I really don't think I have many things I'd consider "milestones". I'm not listing every TLE-experience I've ever had.
97/98 Little kid obsessed with PoS and SS. First TLE I ever heard.
Sept '04 Joined the forum. Was plunged into a world of TLE haha.
March '05 Saw TLE for the first time ever at Push Over. Only my 2nd gig ever (very protective parents haha). Around this time, TLE became my favourite band.
March '06 Met the boys.

I wasn't allowed to attend concerts until I turned 18 cos my parents were bitches now they let my 16 year old sister go to them by herself.
1999 - Discovered TLE "officially".
So the next few years involved me dancing in my undies to their music in my room, until I turned 18.
17th Dec 05 - Saw Chris Cheney at Green Day
17th May 06 - Met TLE for first time (almost got run over) - First TLE show
19th May 06 - Met TLE (tripped over Chris Cheney)
9th Sept 06 - Met TLE x2 (Boys recognised me from Myspace) - 2nd LE Show
10th Sept 06 - Met TLE x2 (Boys played Dirty Man just for me) - 3rd Le show
Good Times!
i think my parents won't let me untill im 18. but they said i can go with a friend/someone they know...they told me that when i had spent the money i had saved :(

ok i guess its my turn now, my list is small but yeah you get that...
SEP or OCT 2003: The Living End appeared on the footy show 'grand final episode'....i think they played a few songs but i can only remember Who's Gonna Save Us?.I was hooked on that song for months..
DEC 2004:They went into the wilderness with me for a fair while until i saw an ad on tv for From Here On In (the singles) Album...I made mum buy it for me.That was when I got hit by the train which i call 'the living end'.... A few days later i brought MODERN ARTillery.
FEB 2005: bought Self Titled and Roll On albums...my favourite songs were Staring at the light and I Want A Day.
NOV 2005: bought What's On Your Radio single after my sister taped their interview on JJJ. I didn't like WOYR too much, i guess you would say i brought the single because of Reborn and WSOTT.
FEB 2006: bought Hellbound EP and State Of Emergency
APR 2006: listened to Port Pirie concert on JJJ
AUG 2006: bought Nothing Lasts Forever single and From Here On In DVD
They aren't really milestones, and i still haven't seen them live, and I am still looking for I'ts For Your Own Good (with spelling mistake :p ). But i guess it's not bad for a 12 year old...
thats damn good for a twelve yr old

I wanted to see the lads at Fed Square but Mum had booked the tix for the 16th so I was real bummed. I also love the Rogue Traders. I saw the red hair and knew it was him. I went mental too, I think I might've cried too! Ha Ha!
My parents hated me listening to that sort of music at 12. Mum would ask me, "Why cant you listen to spice girls like other normal 12 year olds".
my mums a bit like that too. i was watching the big day in this year and tle was on, mum called out 'what is that crap?' my responce was 'that CRAP is the living end'. she hasn't complained THAT much since.

Late '96/early '97 - Heard TLE on the J's and fell in love.
'98 sometime - TLE came to Canberra. First time I've broken down in tears in the middle of a shopping centre carpark coz I wasn't allowed to go. Sucked being 13.
Sept '01 - Chris' accident. Scary shit.
BDO 2003 - First time I saw TLE.
October (?) 2003 - First time I met the boys at TLE listening party, and also first time I met a lot of the boarders.
October (?) 2003 - First secret gig (Glen Waverly & The Mentones)
Bodyjar gig last year - first time I met Trav.
I can't think of anything else right now. It's all a bit of a blur.

8th Oct 2005 - Adelaide Ent. Centre - Coke Live - Pretty cool for a free show I guess
17th May 2006 - SOE Tour - Thebarton Theatre - Probably my favourite tle show, Gyroscope were the best support i've seen with tle

My Mum is a huge Green Day fan now, she also took my SOE Cd a few weeks ago and burnt herself a copy. She was shocked when I told her that they were the music she forbid me to listen to. Apprantly it's ok now because their music mature now. WTF!

Ah kay, concerts aside...because every single one of them has been a massive milestone... meeting them at JB and getting our 'backstage pass' signed was joyous. Then recieving ACTUAL backstage passes for May 19th was even better, i wasn't expecting that at all and then seeing Andy at my local JB, headphone shopping, and then seeing Chris at almost the exact same spot a week later with Emma and pushing a pram and yeah. Hello :)

Oh yeah, Chris at Green Day was mental!
Wasn't allowed to see TLE on the From Here On In tour, 'coz i was still 13 at the time and my parents were all like "ner ner nah nah ner neeerrrrr"
So first time seeing 'em was Coke Live, then again at Fed Square, then Chris at Green Day, then May 19th and then i'm seeing 'em twice in a row next week! Man i was such a pissed off little 13 year old!

August 2006 - headline show in Tempe, it was awesome too but there were a lot of gross shady kids around :(
not gonna lie, I'm not as obsessed with the band these days. but they definitely put on a good show, even when they're tired, hot and hungover :P
The Dying Start
09-16-2006, 01:02 PM
I might come back and update this, coz i can't remember actual dates....i'd have to look them up...
1997 - Heard FHOI on JJJ. Loved the song, was too young and/or ignorant to find out anything about the band or the song.
1998 - POS/SS went gangbusters on the charts....loved it to death...like pretty much 90% of the population did at the time. A mate at school bought the EP....i borrowed it and listened to it non stop for as long as he let me borrow it. Gave back the EP and went to the sho and bought the album. My father had told me in the past that "singles aren't worth it...you might as well spend the money for all the tracks" So i got the album. LOVED THE WHOLE LOT. Every track was a winner. Listened to it on loop pretty much every day after school...
2000 - Bought Roll On 2 days after it came out. Dad said I was a dill for not waiting for the price to come down. I realised perhaps this was an obsession...i just couldn't wait!
Late 2000 - First TLE gig. The only gig I saw with Trav. Spewin'. Show went nuts...couldn't believe how good it was.
Sept 2001 - Logged on to the site to check updates and peruse the board which i hadn't joined. This is when i saw the news about Chris. Nearly had a heart attack. Checked back religiously for news daily.
2002 - Read about Trav leaving...nearly die again. I can't even remember how i got over this...i loved Trav!
2002-3 - Found out about Andy joining the band. Awesome.
2003 - Finally joined the board much to everyones dismay, i'm sure. Downloaded WWYD off the J's. Great new track...short and sweet. Bought OSTTO EP the day it came out....the first time i've got anything ON RELEASE DATE. Went to Melbs for the MODERN ARTillery listening party...met boarders for the first time and TLE for the first time. Back In Adelade: Went to see TLE @ The Gov twice...insanely small venue...doubtful they'll play something that small again...it was a treat. Due to being on the Street Team got in to both Soundchecks. Met the boys and some fellow adelaide fans. Secnd night got to "have dinner" with the boys due to them dining at the same hotel as us as we waited for the doors to open. Chris forgot he was there to eat and ended up going through a local street press with us talking about local bands. Chris asked how our potato wedges were, to which i replied "wedgie". He smiled and looked at me like a was a complete fuckhead. I smiled back like i was replying "yes i am".

meeting them at JB and getting our 'backstage pass' signed was joyous.
Holy shit! That was you? You were right in front of me and my... "crew".
It was a good idea, no-one else thought of it, I bet.
I always wondered who it was that did that, and now I know.
My Milestones:
2003: Bought OSTTO for Father's Day: Liked TLE then, but not too much. Liked OSTTO, and this gave me a good excuse to buy the single. :p
It all really started in '06 cause I got into them:
Early '06: Heard WOYR on the radio, of all places. Bought single next chance I had.
Feb '06: Wake Up hit the radio, alrighty! Later that month I bought SOE and really got into the awesomeness that is TLE.
Still '06...: After SOE'd been listened to so many times, I decided that I had to have S/T, RO and MA, so I went out and bought them swiftly. Started hunting down singles on eBay.
May '06: Attended the signing at JB, and went to Festival Hall (the 20th). Great show.
LLTW Rove Appearance: Headed to the studio where Rove is, watched the performance in my dad's car on a small TV thingie and as soon as they finished we got out of the car and went and sat by the gate, waiting for them. Dino of BB fame (lol...), Rove himself - and others drove past, and eventually Scott emerged, followed (much later) by Chris and Andy. Said hello, got some photos and stuff signed, and let them head off.
All I need are Tab Mag and STD in terms of singles - so I've come a long way.
That pretty much covers my TLE milestones, but I'll throw in for novelty's sake:
1995: Started primary school at Jells Park Primary School, where Chris attended and where he was currently working as a childcare helper. I actually vaguely remember one of the days I had childcare (which was rare) with Chris.
2003: Started attending Wheelers Hill Secondary College, where Chris and Scott attended.

ive been a fan since the begining but really only got obsessed when modern ARTillery came out:
98-heard POS/ss on rage & bought the self titled with my own money (it was the first actual cd i had ever bought...very exciting for a kid in yr 4!!...it was my first & to this day still my favourite cd ever!)
2000 got roll on for my birthday
2003 got modern art the day it came out & really became obsessed! i started to check the website every day for any new news!
2004 got FOHI cd/dvd the day they came out & was very pissed when i couldnt get to any live shows on that tour (all over18's)
oct 05 after 7 long years i finally get to see the boys live @ coke live at the sydney ent cent
dec 05see boys @ homebake-they kick everyone's arse!!! i also get to half meet them (i lined up at the signing tent & i was so excited that all i could say was "hi...youre cool!"...but i got their autographs!!)
feb 06get SOE (pre-order with auotgraphed photo)
apr 06see boys support the rolling stones (there were only about 5 living end fans in the whole stadium!)
may 06see the best concert of my life @ the hordern
im also gonna see them at luna park in oct 06 & will get festival hall dvd the day it comes out.!!!
ive been there since the start & will be there till the 'living' end!!!

1998 - jumped on the bandwagon, got self titled for christmas I believe.
2001- saw them live at the arena. I was 16 and stupid. I decided they were my favourite band, became obsessed
I didnt see them again until 2003 at the big day out due to accidents and member changes and stuff.
in late 2003 - i went on my first multi - gig adventure to a few places in south east queensland.
in 2004 -I decided to mental and see them 11 times in 4 states and I even went to ADELAME to see them. what was I thinking?!
2005 - much quieter on the TLE gig front than the previous year, did venture to melbourne and saw them at pushover.
2006 - ventured to melbourne again, reached 25 times seeing TLE. Finally accepted within myself that I don't really need or want to see them more than once at a time or i'll get way too bored. Probably aren't my favourite band anymore. Still coming to terms with this painful adjustment period.

Okay, the only TLE day i celebrate every year is Hottest 100 Day/Australia Day 1998 - First heard TLE, FHOI and POS. Taped it from the radio, and listened to them non stop. every year i sit down and listen to the hottest 100 and every year since 98 they've been in it. I try and guess where they'll place each year, and listen out for interviews with the band when they play at BDO :)
other non celebrated milestones:
Riot, Hobart 99 - First tle gig i went to - it was fucking awsome, i still remember they opened with WER and the upstairs mexican wave was cool. The tix for the show were awsome, but the bastards didn't give them back
Homebake Dec, 2000 - I won a trip to Sydney to see the guys play - it was the best festival i've ever been to, met some lovely people there, had a blast.
Pre-Livid 2003 - met the guys in Brisvegas, talked at them a bunch and got a pic with them all. Was one super happy girl
Yesterday - TLE FUCKING FINALLY came back to tassie (see that ^^^ 7 years!!!!), and I had a great time...and i get to see them tonight as well :)
there's heaps more, but that'll do for now...I HAVE TO GET READY FOR MY HOBART SHOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can not say i have been on the TLE bandwagon for very long, i jumped on about 2 years ago, and have love them since the first song i heard which was "Who's gonna save us" heard that song and craved more and more and more, until i finally got to see them play live and the channel v bus at Federation Square, it was the best day of my life.
Every since, i have bought all their albums and their dvd
Now all i learn on my guitar is TLE, i love them so much
:D
Cheers

One week since i met the living end for the first time. I with i was doing it again this weekend
Haven't really been into The Living End for too long, dunno what I was thinking before but anyway.
Late 2005: My friend who liked (and still does like) TLE wanted to go to a Video Hits thing where they were going to be interviewed (though we thought they were playing). I didn't really know them but came along anyway. A copy of FHOI was thrown into the crowd, I caught it, listened to it, wanted more.
Can't remember exactly when I got their other cds, I think I picked up Self Titled and Roll On from some second hand stores not too long after.
December 2005: First TLE gig (Fed square)
January 2006: Saw TLE at Big Day Out
February 2006: Bought State of Emergency
March 2006: First (and only) time meeting them (at JB Hi Fi). Bought Modern ARTillery (dunno why it took me so long)
May 2006: Saw TLE twice at Festival Hall
And hoooooooopefully I'll get to meet them again next week. That's about it =D

Thank God for some real people who are happy to admit that they're new fans, and they're not 13 years olds saying "I was SO into dem bak wen dey started...lyke in 94 man. it woz sik!"
I have respect for all of you who missed the original explosion and have managed to find the band through various interesting stories along the way!
Thankyou, it's not really anything to be ashamed of and I don't get why people think it is. I mean it would be a bit sad if The Living End hadn't gained any new fans since Prisoner Of Society.
I have respect for the people who don't think we're any less of a fan just because we didn't like TLE right from the start.

It was the first album I 'bought'. I bought WGSU, but wasn't a huge fan at the time, not enough to buy Modern ARTillery. A friend reintroduced me to tle again and burnt self titled and Modern ARTillery so I bought FHOI which was on the charts and the others later. First gig was the FHOI tour so I guess I was a fan from that era.

Well I've always known TLE's music, just not that it was by them... as in I never realised that POS and Roll On was by the same band, and I'd get them mixed up with other bands too - I was only 8 or so after all.
Anyway.
Late 2005 - Heard WOYR. Liked it but was more concerned with a few other bands. One of my best friends, who'd liked them for a few years, obviously really got into it. i started listening to some of their music and enjoyed it. Then I watched the V Bus thingy at Fed Square live on Channel V and was amazed by how many of their songs i actually knew without knowing it, if that makes sense.
Also Chris came on stage at the Green Day concert and I just thought that he was REALLY good.
Feb '06 - I saw the Wake Up clip and i was like "Woah." Started really getting into them
March - Bought tickets to their concert
In between March and May I got all their albums.
19th May - Saw them for the first time. I was 16 (still am actually)
Also late May I joined the 'boards. :D
Next week I'm seeing them again, only the once. Hopefully they come meet us at the tent, cos i still haven't met them yet and i really want to.
So yeah. I'm more of a recent fan but I don't mind. I still enjoy the music as much as anyone else.
The End.

I think the Roll On time was when they had the most airplay/press coverage in America, even though who knows what'll happen with SOE.
(Roll On is still my favorite album of theirs)
Well I've always known TLE's music, just not that it was by them... as in I never realised that POS and Roll On was by the same band
My version of that was that I didnt realise that the guys from the Runaway Boys, were the same boys I started hearing on the J's with 'From Here On In' and 'English Army'. But then also, that the band playing those songs turned out to be the same band who got me hooked in '97 hehe :o
Thank God for some real people who are happy to admit that they're new fans, and they're not 13 years olds saying "I was SO into dem bak wen dey started...lyke in 94 man. it woz sik!"
I'm thankful for that too Glenn!
But I'm also cautious not to automatically assume that someones telling pork pies just cos they're a youngun who loves our boys, cos let's face it, Lu was 9 the first time she saw TLE at Rock The Park, and Jack was screaming along to Prisoner from the time he was 3... so while not the norm, it is possible...

Hmm, milestones.
I liked prisoner when I was about 11 or 12, after seeing it on rage I think, but I was not a fan, I couldn't have named another song.
Late 2002 I actually started to get into them, around the time of the OSTTO single release. I won S/T and Roll On off a radio show and I was hooked. Started collecting a few singles, then bought MA when it was released, then the DVD, the the new album, etc, etc. Then finally saw them live 2 days ago.
To be honest I'm sorta an on and off Tle listener, I tend to listen in fads. When there's an album coming I get caught up in the hype and start listening obessively, then after it's been out for a month or so I go off them for a while.

Not very long.
Nov 2005, Saw What's On Your Radio on video hits, and the song sounded too repetetive and crap at first.
Feb 2006, Herd Wake Up on the radio, loved it. So I bought the album a few months later. I loved it, still my favourite album I have.
May 2006, I found their self titled in a second hand shop, so I bought it.
June 2006, I was in Big W. I Saw: Hellbound/It's For Your Own Good EP's in a little box set, only 10 bux. & Modern ARTillery/From Here On In Albums were there. I bought the lot.
Later that month. I saw Second Solution/Prisoner Of Society EP at the same shop I bought their self titled.
Then In July. I was shopping at a Music shop called "Wesleys" in Midland, WA, AUS & I saw every Living End Album in the "L" Section. I grabbed Roll On And bought it. RIP OFF I imagine, $31 but worth it.

My story. Ultra interesting, a real riveting read.
Saw Who's Gonna Save Us on video hits when it came out and had it in my head for aaaages. And the clip was so different from everything else i was seeing. And then there was a lull. And then I Can't Give You What I Haven't Got started playing on high rotation and then i burnt From Here On In off my buddy Josh who's been listening to 'em ever since POS/SS (his cousin got him into TLE on his eighth birthday, now how great is that?). Loved it. Chucked out my burnt copy and bought the real deal. Fell in love with the photos. ("hey wow, it's Billie Joe and Mike!"). Got the DVD. Got everything else. And yeah, that was around the time when The From Here On In tour was happening and i wasn't allowed to go.
i hope you've been enlightened.

I didn't really know them but came along anyway. A copy of FHOI was thrown into the crowd, I caught it, listened to it, wanted more.
They threw cds into the crowd?! I was there that day. ALONE! None of my friends wanted to go, and I'm not usually a person who likes to go places by myself, but it was TLE - I had to! haha. I stood near the back, so no cds for me :(
And speaking of FHOI, my copy has not been in my possession since May 2005. My ex still has it which I'm rather peeved about. My cd rack isn't complete without it! :p
Yup, two signed copies of FHOI I think, maybe more. I wrestled a few other people for it but won :) Well not really wrestled... more rolling around on the ground all trying to grab the cd off each other.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away........
I first heard them when I was about 7 ('97) when my older bro bought POS/SS (when he still had good taste in music). Loved every song on the EP but being so young I forgot about until about '02 when I started playing guitar and I realised how awesome the guitar work is.
Listened to self titled for 2 years on high rotation learning the songs without getting bored.
May 12 2006 Horden Pavillion - First gig. Fell in love all over again. ( to be honest I'd been really dissapointed with the new songs but hearing them live made me see how good they are.)
The week after the gig I went and bought SOE, Hellbound, It's for your own good
(gotta love those re-issues),Roll On/Living End (only way to get my hands on Roll On).
Since then I bought FHOI DVD + CD, Modern Artillery, Wake Up, LLTW, WOYR, OSTTO and a bunch of TLE crap from their website.
A bit long winded I know, but a thrilling tale none the less.   :(

I have a very bad memory so only a couple a moments
Pushover 98 - Had heard thier songs on radio and liked them but at pushover i stood on that hill, my jaw dropped and i stood transfixed for thier set
I then played st non stop on a road trip to queensland and back (and ever since)
First close up gig was hifi bar 2000 and that was sooooo amazing,
My co workers and deakin uni students then had massive dosses of tle played constantly:)
The secret gigs have been my favourites - all very special
Loved having some of my vinyls signed "to Beth and bub" by Chris
Im sure there are more but as i said, bad memory

but first time I saw TLE was Homebake 2000.. I wanted to see them earlier but couldnt.
First met Chris at the Channel v thing in 2003 the day before the big day out. Then I met Chris for the 2nd time and finally met Andy and Scott at the EMI street team listening party in oct 2003 I think.
Can't remember the first TLE own show I actually went to.. maybe it was sweeneys '03, so cant remember right now. First Longnecks show I went to was december last year, 2 days before homebake.
Got my TLE ink done around mid June this year. So many things that have happened that involve TLE. I could be here for hours.. May could be here for days.

hahaha yeah ain't that the truth.
Another milestone is also that without the boys we would never have met, let alone become close friends, I would never have moved to Melbourne, and lord knows what I'd be up to now. Actually I would never have met a lot of the people who are my closest today without TLE.
They seriously changed my life hahahahahaha
Yeah, I'm the same. Without the boys drawing all sorts of fab people together, I wouldnt have the same circle of friends I do now, and maybe Melbourne mightn't have seemed like such a fab town, but those people were a big part of the reason I moved here, so yeah, in a funny way (aside from the music) TLE changed my life too! :p

OH my god!!!! ROLLER TOASTER ROCK!!!! haha I remember Cam telling me it was TLE in an email without really saying anything hehehe. There were some crazy rumours flying around about who was going to play. I'm sure Cam thought we were crazy when Gail and I rocked up to the Palladium at lunch time hehehe, and Super Dave suggested we help him carry shit up the stairs, after trying to convince us that the boys weren't playing, which was crap because Scotty's double bass was right there in front of us lmao.... oh now you've got me started.

unless you're about 47 i don't think you're twice my age in human years...

first times hearing all of their new songs on the radio or something, bit of a thrill.
Oct '05
first time seeing TLE live after a long spate of bad luck getting tickets...or gettin sick! coke live!
Jan '06
BDO! HUZAH! boxer shorts, beer in my face and 50 000 people moshing along behind me, you know theyre an awesome band when you dont notice anyone else there, its like theyre playing just for you.
March '06
My first handshakes and hugs...and my signed bass guitar
May '06
tle SOE ..hearing THE ROOM live for the first..possibly last time, getting my flag up on chris' amp!
OCTOBER 2006...without a doubt the best three days of my life
9th...newcastle gig, SCotty played our cardboard bass, Chris held my flag up and said that it was F***ing beautiful, and scotty put it on his amp.
12th..met TLE downstairs at luna park, got hugs and pictures and a good chat, and andy loved my flag
14th...the wolongong gig, the greatest day of my life, meeting all the bands outside at some point, talking to matty and ant, taking some great pictures and having a nice meet n greet on the hill after.
MORE TO COME NO DOUBT...now that my luck is better and im older!

'98- first heard the s/t album from my sis...they became my favorite band at age 8, and that fact has never changed.
basically, because i started so young, i didn't get to go to any gigs or anything until this year due to my mom and dad, although i had tickets to two shows back in 2004 (one, tle left the tour for one day, the date i had tickets to, and the other, the venue was a truck stop connected to strip joint, not exactly the best place for a 14 year old girl..)
but, this year i've had better luck,
aug '06-saw them for the first time in toronto, it was amazing! met them before while they were waiting for a taxi and then hung out with em after.
nov '06-saw them in buffalo, my hometown, finally! was front and center the whole set, but my pictures turned out like crap because i was actually too close. (this was just a few days ago!). met them after, except scott, he didn't come out.
nov '06- i'm on the guest list for the toronto show on monday, so i can get in for free if i show up....but it's quite a drive and i have classes that day, and the next day. so i'm not sure yet.
there's other stuff in between, but seeing them on tv and buying their cds doesn't hold anything special for me...

Thought I'd drag this back from the dead.
This date marks 10 long years since the boys - messers Cheney, Owen & Demsey - got me hook, line and sinker.
Had seen Runaway Boys years before, but it was seeing TLE in a little basement club on that Thursday night, that blew my mind and stole a chunk of my soul.
I've discovered alot of bands in the last decade.
And while many are good, and some have come damn close, none has equalled the level of excitment TLE can deliver when they're at their finest.
So thank you guys (Andy too!).
Here's to the next ten rockin' years!

Haha. I never posted in this thread before!
So, um...late 2005 - I watch Green Day's Melbourne concert, see that Chris is brought on stage...I go..."Who the heck is the Living End?", so I take a listen. Liked the songs, but never stuck with them.
Spring/early summer 2006 - Started listening again on and off, had fun during the scheduled online chat.
Mid summer 2006 - Stayed up late one night, taking care of my kitty who was sick. I got bored and decided to do some more research on TLE. Joined the boards and downloaded the performance of Wake Up on Sunrise, loved Chris' voice and fell in love with the song. So I went out and bought SOE.
November 2006 - Saw TLE for the first time in Toronto, and met them before and after the show. Such sweeties.
Annnnnnnnd I don't really remember anything else. My collection has gotten a lot bigger since then. :p

around 2002 or 2003 i think- My friend gave me a cd and said that these guys are really cool, check them out, so i put the cd in, and it was the living end, On tour forever cd. I listen to the 3 songs over and over until i went out and bought roll on. Then i bought modern artillery when it came out, and i started to buy all their old stuff. And i bought SOE when it came out.
Later that summer i saw blink 182 live, and the living end opened for them, and it was awesome. later in 2006 i saw them once in august, and once in november, and met them after the november show. This past summer i bought chris's duo jet, and i talk to him on email sometimes, cause he said he would send me the tail piece to the guitar.:D
Throughout all that time, i easily decided that The Living End are the best band ever.:D

around June of 2006 TLE added me on myspace so I took a look fell in love with their songs.
august 15 2006-First time seeing them in concert! Best show ever.
from there I got all there CD's its awesome what a band can do to you in a year.
and many more to come.
Let's hope I get to meet them this year or coming up!
Hmmm I thought I had posted in this thread the first time around, but going through it, I hadn't.
For me it started around the Hellbound days. Heard Strange on the radio, thought, damn, not bad. Then heard Hellbound (Song) and liked it lots too.
So I got the EP.
Then came IFYOG and so on and so forth.
Some milestones for me:
1998ish. Seeing them play in Travs home town. (Well almost, Neerim Sth isn't much, so they played Waragul, which is close by)
2000 saw the WER tour. Skipped school to meet them. Chris signed my bed head and my school diary. (Bed head was in the car cause my folks just bought it for me, so I thought I should get it signed) I got detention for defacing my diary. haha.
Saw them play later that night. Awesome gig.
Saw them a few times between then and 2003.
Jan 10th 2003 was my first Andy meeting. The band played my 21st birthday and I met the guys afterwards. Scott and I debated who was more drunk. Me or him. I think I won that round.
BDO a couple of weeks later, I ran into Chris and Scott, just after Chris had played with the honourable You Am I. Scott remembered that I was the birthday guy from last week.
Saw them again a few times later.
2005 I worked for them selling the WOYR CDs at the Coke Live gigs. Power went out and Chris started with the ghost stories.
2006 - SOE tour. Busted dodgy bootleg Tshirt man.

Wahey!!! :D
Excellent! Thanks for bringing it back from the dead, because I didn't even remember that this thread existed. :)
Okay, let's see...
June 2000: My friend Jim made me a mix tape with "Strange" on it. (He is now my boyfriend of nearly 6 years now... I do think the mix tape had something to do with it.)
Later in 2000: My bass player at the time got Roll On and fell in love with it, especially "Uncle Harry." My then-drummer burned the disc for me and added a bonus track curiously titled "Mane With No Name." ;) Anyway, we learned "Uncle Harry" and started playing it at shows immediately. People told us it was our best song. I had to correct them every time and tell them to listen to TLE.
July 2001: I can't remember the exact date, but this was when I was supposed to see TLE for the first time, opening for Green Day. They were pulled off the bill at the last minute, and I never found out why. Green Day was fun, but I was massively disappointed.
Fast forward to...
March 16 2004: Finally, my first TLE show! Irving Plaza in NYC. We left early to catch the bus back to Jersey, and the boys were just hanging out in the lobby. We went and talked to them, got autographs, etc. As always, they were very cool and so nice to everyone.
August 7 2006: Show #1 at the Stone Pony in NJ. I remember Chris was sick with a cold or the flu or something, but they put on a hell of a performance anyway. It rained after the show, but the band hung around outside of their bus until everyone who wanted an autograph or photo got one.
November 22 2006: Show #2 at the Stone Pony. A more road-weary TLE still delivered an amazing show, albeit drunken and silly at times, complete with a brief attempt at "The Room." ("You got the beginning," I remember Chris saying when they eventually gave up. "That's the best part of the song anyway.") Got to meet them again afterwards.
Ha ha, thanks to anyone who bothered reading all that. It was fun to remember all that!

I was at that gig (obviously). You were probably one of the many cunts that i cursed at that night (like i do at every gig). Actually at one of those two Gov gigs in 2003, i met a girl...we danced all show, and then departed without a word. I would have married her if she'd stuck around. God that was pure concerty-goodness. (The Living End playing the soundtrack to our awkward and brief dancy romance)

Yeah, Kat and I had a similar thing with a guy called Trent at the Shepperton Big Juice gig thingy.
Never seen a happier dancer than Trent. Always smile when I think of him :p :)

my only tle milestone worth mentioning is whatever date that glenn (and kim) and I sat at a bus station in adelame and played vocal call and respons-ing. And I have not seen his delightfully funny shaped head since. Oh, glenn, will I ever see your oblong face again?
*edit* It must have been Monday October 4th, 2004!

Have you been listening to The Angels?
And the appropriate response would in this case be: "No way, get fucked, fuck off"
But in a non-Angels-concert situation it would be "I hope so, because you smell like my granny's cooking"

In 11 days it will be 10 yrs since I first fell in love with TLE :)
I know that 10 years might sound a little ridiculous for someone who is just about to turn 21, but TLE's S/T album was the first CD I bought with my own money and I haven't stopped listening to it since! I went out and got it on my 11th birthday in 1999.
/fun fact.

I'll always remember my cousin playing me Hellbound (the song) and me dancing crazily to it, as you would when you're 9! :p
But yeah, my 11th bday is when it all really began for me. Finally I got to hear something other than POS/SS!

It'll be my 11 year anniversary in a couple of weeks. Might have to work that day for the first time ever, but we're allowed to have the radio on at work, so I'll still get to spend it with the boys! And it's a public holiday, so I can go a little crazy

hmmm well thats weird because the first time they played WOYR was at Coke Live N Local in Brisbane (30th September,2005). Atleast thats what they said. so if that was 4 years ago im pretty sure i've been a fan since a little before that because i remember loving them and collecting coke labels before that. i think i got self titled in 2001, forgot i had it and then relsitened to it in 02 and fell in love with it.
So what would make me a fan since 2002.
I've seen them 7 times i think now. 8 at big day out

Every show in Adelaide since 2003. A couple before that. But it's true...if i lived in the eastern states i'd have cranked it way past 13. At least i'm safe in the knowledge it'll be 15 by the end of March!

I'm pretty sure I heard them around the end of November '05. (Video Hits, if we wanna get precise) I came to school the next day like 'ZOMG! have you heard the song with that giant...cello the guy plays?'
i learnt pretty quickly it was a double bass :P
