as long as they keep them away from NME I will be happy. I fucking hate that magazine with a passion.

If it educates the indie gang that read NME I'd be well pleased if they were featured in there, not that I buy it, but it would only be good for TLE here in the UK.

but we all know that NME will love a band one minute and be blowing the lead singer like nobody's business and then shit on them the next. Conor Mcnichols is a dreadful editor and I wouldn't want our boys to have the kind of treatment that they have given other bands. No consistency in their writing whatsoever.

But in my opinion getting people aware of the band in the first place is all that's needed because I've yet to meet anyone not totally blown away by The Living End live, the word will spread like wildfire if enough people get to know the band over here, I have faith in that, fuck any self important NME Camden Town journo, they will have a job slagging them once people know the quality, let's just get them out there. I just would love the band to get the recognition they deserve over here and if that means being courted by the NME so be it.

I think you'll find that people are more than capable of slagging TLE off for all the same predictable reasons we have heard a million times before- just like Green Day etc, and unless people know any different they will buy into that. While NME might love them to begin with they are more than likely to shit on them the next week. Prime example for you- the vines 2004, the week before their second album came out NME were all about the sneak preview they had and how awesome it was and better than their first etc., the following week they gave it 5/10. Does that say editorial consistency to you?
While I agree that having any publicity in NME would in all liklihood help the band, I just think there are better quality publications for them to go in, whether it is the guardian or the independent saturday sections, or Q magazine. I just fucking hate that rag mag and every word they print about Alex Turner sneezing and Pete Docherty not dying. Our boys deserve better than the treatment NME would give them.

While I admittedly don't have much first-hand knowledge of NME's editorial practices, I can say from a journalist's perspective that just because you do a feature on a band, you don't have to worship their album to maintain your journalistic integrity.

It's an old cliche that any press is good press; when you're the subject of said bad press, you may feel differently, but the fact of the matter is that TLE needs press wherever they can get it so they can continue to tour outside of Australia. I hope NME is good to them. But if they're not, so be it. I personally can't imagine why anyone would slam SOE, as it's an absolutely amazing record, but if they do, well... fuck 'em. :p

of course if you do a feature on a band you don't have to worship it. BUT if you say it's incredible and awesome one week, and then the next you call it shit and slag it off (Craig had conincidentally had an altercation with the "journalist" who wrote the album review) then you certainly can't claim journalistic consistency and with that goes your integrity as far as i can see.

I hear ya. So did the "altercation" occur before or after the 5/10 review?

thelivingvines

before, in an interview where Craig started avoiding questions and acting out.

Kerrang TV are really giving TLE a spin. I've been writing from home going in and out all day and I've seen the whole video three times and they are running an ad highlighting TLE, Paramore and two other bands featuring a decent clip from the video countless times. Best exposure TLE have ever had in the UK and I never even phoned in yet today!

awesome good stuff. I get home on monday and I will be on Kerrang TV (the only reason I ever would be) just to see the boys vid being played. Hope MTV2 pick it up soon as well. I think playing reading will do them no end of good.
