The Currency are born of a proud lineage of convicts, bushrangers, stowaways and scoundrels. Combining punk rock and roll with celtic folk, these lads and lasses take up where legendary bands like 'Weddings Parties Anything' and 'Midnight Oil' left off by reviving the colonial folk ballad tradition. It's a rollicking seven piece orchestra that combines folk instruments with a fire cracker punk rhythm section boasting ex Living End drummer Travis Demsey. Fiddle, accordion, tin whistle, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitar play a mix of of jigs and reels, waltzes, oz rock and punk that keeps the crowd dancing like crazy dingoes.
Ok, so the gang have a residency @ The Retreat right through October. Shows are every Thursday and are free entry.

Well, first week I'm off work so no excuse.
The show on the 25th i'll go to then make the made dash to Richmond for the Mad Sin gig. I can go without seeing Zombie Ghost Train and The Vaudevillans.

Now that Mad Sin has been cancelled nobody has an excuse to not come on the 25th.
They do a double set and it sounds really good in the smaller venue cos the mixer dude is supposed to be a shit hot sound dude!
Oh and they did a cover of Midnight Oil's "Read About It" on Thursday.

They only have a demo cd which has the three tracks that I believe are on their Myspace. But next year should bring a new CD with lots of great songs.
I've had fricken Hold Fast Tonight stuck in my head since last night's gig. God I need sleep.

They are doing another residency at Retreat on Sunday afternoons in January starting on the 6th. Justin says that the entire gig on the 13th will be dedicated to me as a belated birthday present hahaha.
