And I can't really see you liking Josh Pyke.
Unless he goes metal.

we're boys! looking for love, a young man needs violence, licking guitars

thats the hottest tune in clubs at the moment, its called the Others (remixed by TV rock and Dirty South)

it was so good a few months ago when it would come on in clubs and only a handful of us would know it... now that it's been cut down to a 2 minute (from 6 minutes) version on nova, EVERYONE knows it and all these chicks try singing it and really they suck.

to be honest the original version of the Others isn't great... the remix is the best thing since sliced bread... and DOW's other songs aren't all that good

The Others remix is so good.

And I have NO IDEA why, but there's several Dukes Of Windsor songs on my computer. I have no clue how they got there. But the songs aint bad. I don't remember the names of the songs because they're on the laptop but I like two called Foxhunt and Eva I think.

Original is by far the best.

At work people ask me for the new TV Rock song. I go 'Oh you mean the old one?' they usually respond, no its new, its on radio. I've been playing the remix since I got it on CD in November last year.

The original gets the best reaction at work. People asked who covered this?

Current bands I'm liking:

Dukes Of Windsor
Flogging Molly
Crimson Flames - See my signature.
The Automatic - They're the ones iwth that song 'Monster' - Whats that coming over the hill is that a monster? Is that a monster??????????

Good tune. The remix of it is going nuts in the clubs at the moment, even though its getting a bit old. I still enjoy the original more.

It is.

One of the most beautiful songs period.

On other other hand you have singers like King Diamond (www.myspace.com/mercyfulfate18is9) who take about 3 hours worth of listening to before you get used to it. He has the weirdest falsetto ever

Burner

If you go to the link for Mercyful Fate/King Diamond in that other post and listen to "A Dangerous Meeting" the first line is his standard range, then the second line is falsetto.

Otherwise almost the entire song Meliss is falsetto

Grumma

Nah King Diamond is 10% awsome, 90% falsetto.

His vocal range in falsetto is more than the average professional singer would have in their normal range
He just has a really odd tone

Julian

Because I had today off I've been listening to the following bands repeatably:

Primus:- Who doesn't know this mob? Les Claypool is like a robot built to play bass and write awesome songs.

Nine Inch Nails:- Great band. Reznor does a great job of Hurt by Johnny Cash. Also been listening to Trent's stuff with David Bowie. Sooopoib.

Oysterhead:- Stuart Copeland (Police) Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Les Claypool. Some fantastic jam band style music. Great lineup.

REM:- These guys are great. So many memorable songs. Its hard not to sing along to them

and finally today I've listened to the blues stylings of the Prozac Blues Band (http://www.prozacblues.com) a fun little blues band that has a great sound, good bunch of songs and a cool website where you can check out the insides of a guitar (they put one through an Xray machine just for kicks)

I'm into the group that Chad Smith from the Chili Wili's formed.

It was:

Chad Smith: Drums
Michael Balzary: Trumpet
John Fruscetine: Guitar
and some random with a long fringe on the Synth.

Was quite awesome. Fairly psycadelic. Reminded me kinda of a Les Claypool project.

I saw them at Federation Square tonight (Wed 11th) and as I mentioned. Was quite good. They need to do much more stuff.

My Chemical Romance

I can't remember if anyone has mentioned them yet, but The White Stripes are slowly coming back into my good books.

The new single Icky Thump is alright in my books. Its gone back to old school WS. Which is better than the previous album (Get Behind Me Satan)

I'm also liking Loomis Fall's stuff. You can find him here (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=67702935)

Bit of punk, showtunes, rocknroll. Its all good. Haven't found a song I didnt like yet.

Finally:

Chris Pontius. Yeah he may be a professional Jackass and a Wildboy, but he is a great musician as well. Plays a bit of Rock, Blues and Garage Rock. He's only got 2 songs up on his myspazz (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=107016383) at the moment. He did have more but he's since removed them.

At the moment on his page he covers Tiny Tim's - Tip Toe Through The Tulips. And there is a snippit of an original. Good stuff.

Pull The Pin (http://www.myspace.com/pullthepinpa)

Sounds like: Blink 182ish
Playing a few dates on the East coast during Warped Tour.
Suggested Tracks- Government Song

and since I wasn't thinking when I posted it before I'll give a few descriptions of the bands I said.

Another Wasted Day (http://www.fuzz.com/artist/anotherwastedday)
or go to their myspace (www.myspace.com/anotherwastedday)(doesn't have my favorite or Saviour though.)
Punk Pop
Suggest Tracks: My personal favorite is "Untitled" but most people think Dora or Saviour are the best.

Maldroid (http://www.fuzz.com/artist/Maldroid)
New Wave/Rock
Suggestest Tracks: Want It, Get It, Got It or Here We Go Again
Suggested Videos: Heck No(I'll Never Listen To Techno) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxZJYbVd1hE)
Their video for "He Said, She Said" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHGvh3i35Uk) is also really good. It won the Youtube underground contest for best video.

Captain Random (www.myspace.com/captrainrandomyo)
Skunk
Suggestest Tracks: Case of the Mondays or When I Grow Up
They're better live then on myspace..trust me. (Same goes for Another Wasted Day who is in a contest to play Warped Tour)

Jerk Reaction (www.myspace.com/jerkreaction)
Hardcore/Punk
They just posted their songs 2 days ago and have already gotten over 1,000 views. Normally, that kind of music really isn't my thing, but I actually like them.

I shamelessly promote my friend's bands

WOOOOOOOOTTTTTT :D

I will just mention Full Moon and Room 34 were put up off of a not quite finished (mastered wise) version of our EP whereas Sinful Stomp and New Millenium are properly mastered and stuff. I should probably get around to swapping the older tracks with the newer versions... And Train Kept A Rollin is off our old old demo way back :)

Don't lie. And while you're not lying, come to Whyalla and play the Sundowner or something...because it's too hard for me to catch you when i come down.

I was under the impression the sundowner was festival celebrating the acheivements of disabled people??

I'm going to see the Counterfeit Gypsies tonight at the Cornish Arms with Catgut Mary..... cannot wait as I've heard nothing but good things about 'em.

Should go some way to making up for Gogol Bordello's no show last month :(

Where it says track06 just change the number and you can listen to the whole album. I dont quite know what to think of it... Glad Rags And Body Bags is pretty much my favourite record so it was going to be hard to top...

I saw on last weekend a band, The Scissor File. They are a Melbourne band, currently on their EP launch tour, the first time they played in Albury, they are quite good live band. I got the chance to have a beer with the vocalist and he seemed like a good bloke. I recommend them on this board.

Also a band i saw last week (they played before The Scissor File) called Subrusion. They are a Wagga Wagga band and prolly not many people would like their style anyway. I've seen them twice and plan on seeing them next time they come here.

I saw Juke Kartel at the Espy last night. Pretty impressive. They have a song on a BigPond ad, which most of you would recognise - it's up on their MySpace.

The supports Misfire and Wonderland were pretty good too. We caught the end of the first and who had a 2.5 hour set I think. Some little bikey-looking guy got up on the stage for their last couple of songs and was playing air guitar.

saw Superman Is Dead by accident last night. Thought they were pretty cool, obvious TLE influence, but not in a cheesy cover band kinda way :) They're from Bali, they've got two more shows down here then they are off to Sydney.
