yep. boss sure will do the job.
depending on what kinda sound you want i'd recomend the boss ds-1, they go for about $160 last time i saw, there plenty good. just ask me if you want some sound clips and ill make some for ya.

Yeahhh boss are pretty much best. Ive got the OD-1 as a base sound and the tube screamer to give it a kick up the ass. but if you want distortion rather then overdrive, probably the DS-1.

depends if you already have distorion running through your amp. like if you have your amp on clean channel then put the distortion pedal on it will go BOOOF and everything will explode. no it really wont you will just have distortion. but if you have a distortion channell on your amp and you put it on that channel then put the distortion pedal on then it will sound really shit lol too much distortion

yeah then get a overdrive pedal becuase it wont give it that huge sound, it will just add tone and volume and it will cut through better. aka i use tube screamer because they just sound great. oh and some guy called chris cheney uses them. anyone heard of him?

get an equaliser pedal, you can set it up as a booster, like boost the higher frequencies, and just switch it on and off when you need it.

Can I just point out that "aka" means "also known as" so it doesn't really fit there in your sentance. :p

I second Kevins suggestion of an EQ pedal. It is the most valuable pedal you can buy. You may also want to check out a pedal by MXR called the Micro Amp if you just want a simple booster with no frills.

overdrive gives you that warm fuzzy sound, you get better note clarity, relative to the drive levels that is

There are these pedals by this brand called Behringer and they are basically Boss pedals without the price tag, ive brought a couple and they sound great!
they cost only $40 and there are many different varieties....like OD pedals and the EQ ones as well.....
they are a good investment.....

Behringer and boss pedals, r totally different, boss pedals sound 10 times better that behringer.
as they say you get what you pay for.
behringer are cheap, but the just don't have the quality of boss.

What kind/brand of pedal does chris cheney use?

i just know that he uses an old ibanez TS9 tube screamer or whatever, and a fulltone something something.

He doesn't seem to use the TS9's any more.
He does however use a Fulltone Fulldrive, which is essentially a lightly modified TS9/808. In fact, you can mod a TS9 to sound exactly like a fulldrive. I wouldn't bother though, most tonedef plebs wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them when played through an overdriven amp anyway.
Speaking of pedals and chris cheney, that slack bastard has had one of my pedals for the last 10 months! Bloody musicians...

i did a bit of snooping in canberra for mick, he uses his curtis overdrive for the solos these days, just as a booster, cause it's pretty much a fulldrive but he's not using the gain circuit.

for anyone looking for a cool distortion pedal can I recommend the tc electronic vintage distortion pedal? I know what you are thinking- it's distortion, it'l sound shit- but this is the most crisp sounding distortion ever- it's got a great versatility to it as well. I didn't have any problem getting a sound like Chris' out of it. It's got a boost as well and you can set that to a level you like. Solid pedal in my books.
