Yeah, I find it a bit weird that a band would blatantly name themselves after what TLE used to call themselves. That stand up kit looks cheese as well, are they on 2-tone records or sumthin lol.

I had a lot of them, but I sent a couple off to people and then I *think* got rid of some [can't really remember:p], stuck a couple on my binders and one on my computer monitor. The Longnecks @ The Ding Dong Lounge - Friday 16th February 2008
Supported by Yves Klein Blue (QLD) and The Runaway Boys (VIC).

Heavy and riff-driven is just one of many ways that could easily describe some of the new material for Melbourne rockers The Living End’s upcoming 5th album.

Playing yet again under the pseudonym of ‘The Longnecks’, Chris Cheney, Scott Owen and Andy Strachan have just completed an 8 date tour of Victoria, plus two festival dates, in which they have used to road test just a handful of new tracks in the live arena. Held at The Ding Dong Lounge, situated in the Melbourne city center, their last non-festival gig was a corker.

Opening the night was Melbourne rockabilly band The Runaways Boys. Having a few friends being fans of the band, and having already heard their track Fallen Down, I knew roughly what I was in for. Although their style of music isn’t something I regularly listen too, I still enjoyed their set, with Sometime’s I Feel Alone being a particular highlight of mine. They certainly got myself and others in the crowd bouncing along to many of their tunes as the set continued.

Second on the bill was Brisbane band Yves Klein Blue, who had at least one of the support slots for each of The Longnecks gigs. After checking out their MySpace page previous to the tour beginning, I was unsure as to whether or not I would like these guys live. After seeing them play at the last four gigs of the tour, I can gladly say that my uncertainty was quickly squished to bits. They blew me away from the first track they played and I have been listening to their songs ever since!

The band, comprised of Michael Tomlinson (Vocals/Guitar/Keys), Charles Sale (Guitar/Keys), Chris Banham (Drum/Percussion) and Sean Cook (Bass/Tambourine), have only been together for just under two years, but their talent more than makes up for the little amount of time they’ve been playing together for. Their set was tight and entertaining and whatever you decide to call their style, be it indie, dance, rock, grindcore, or pop, these boys do it better than most other bands out there at the moment.

Their tracks Polka, The Streetlight and the epic Dinosaur were clear crowd favourites. With elements of The Arctic Monkeys, The Libertines and The Fratellis shining through, Yves Klein Blue had gained many new fans by the end of the set, receiving a huge applause as they left the stage.

With the crowd already half cut, The Longnecks’ set couldn’t come any quicker. After a short wait while gear was loaded on stage and crowd renditions of The Living End’s Prisoner Of Society and Uncle Harry were sung, it was time for what everyone had been so enthusiastically waiting for.

A few chords from Cheney’s guitar and the whistles and cheers from the front row, signaled that the band were on stage. The Longnecks performed a blistering set, opening with Raise The Alarm. This track, along with the sixth track of the night, How Do We Know had already been given the run through twice before – once at the Age EG awards in Melbourne in December and once at The Soundscape Festival on Australia Day, in Hobart.

They paid for someone to go over for BDO to do a review, but it was really really average. You should write for Sauce - you'd get sent all over the world with your talent! :p

I think it'd make more sense without the bold 'in'.

No apostrophe in 'Sometimes', unless that's actually what the song's called i guess.

I really don't know why i highlighted this bit now... Might've had something to do with the arrangement of the bold bit, but I'm really not sure.

I'm not too sure, but I don't think you need a comma after 'Australia Day', either that or you should have one after 'Melbourne' as well. I think the first one works if you have a comma or a semicolon after 'December'.

I'll see how it goes. I'm usually pretty good with all that sorta stuff..I think I was more nervous than anything with that one cos I really wanted to get the interview and just wanted to make sure that my writing was still sounding ok!

Once you spend a certain amount of time on something like that though, you tend to see past some of the mistakes you've made, so you could end up with a story or two to edit for me one day down the track! :p

The colour of your hair in your photo looks great! I think I'll be heading towards a blacky/dark red colour next time I change mine (haha, if you don't mind :p ) :)
on the photo I usually set the contrast very high,so most of colors looks brighter and cooler =)

Wizard 23 is the guy in the first photo who is pretty much smack bang in the middle with the chris cheney hat on (not the trav hat, two people behind :p) and in the third photo, he is the one right next to the mic stand.

I just remember his hat from when we were waiting outside Ding Dong and then later on at the end of the gig when he started talking to me and said "hey you're from tassie and from the forums, yeah?"

Wizard 23 is the guy in the first photo who is pretty much smack bang in the middle with the chris cheney hat on (not the trav hat, two people behind :p) and in the third photo, he is the one right next to the mic stand.

Or at least I think it is :p
I just remember his hat from when we were waiting outside Ding Dong and then later on at the end of the gig when he started talking to me and said "hey you're from tassie and from the forums, yeah?"
Now I get why he was looking at me funny before the gig,haha. He was a nice guy :)
