This is only going by what I heard at the longnecks, but to me, this album has the good bits from all the previous albums in one, which in turn, has somehow created this new kick-arse TLE sound!

A good one at that aswell!

Definetly digging HDWK alot more now. A grower for sure. Musically, it's executed very well, although the production's still a little underwhelming but meh i've basically gotten over that.

White Noise is better then most of SOE I reckon. Good chord progression, strong chorus, good song.

The more I listen to this song, the more I think it's one of the best, if not THE best thing they've done since Roll On...I dunno if this makes sense, but while I found things to enjoy about the last two records, I was always somewhere subconsciously let down because they didn't feel like proper "successors" to such an ambitious album...it was like they retreated away from the direction they were going...this is TLE out of their comfort zone, as opposed to How Do We Know which while enjoyable is TLE trying to sound like TLE as opposed to just coming way the fuck out of left field...listen to the ambient production on Chris' guitar in the chorus...they definitely picked the right producer to take the living end sound to a different level. ramble over.

Yes, there are strings. But what I'm referring to the sound of the GUITAR...meaning, Chris Cheney, you know, The Living End's frontman? He plays a guitar. It's heavily reverbed in this song. That's pretty rare for them, unless you count live All Torn Down. I think it sounds great. Considering the producer's work with Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. (both bands that have dabbled in shoegaze) I think this has a lot to do with his input. We are talking about White Noise here, yeah? Not How Do We Know. Yeah.

Maybe this is becoming irrelevant, but how did you think i was talking about How Do We Know when I specifically said "as opposed to How Do We Know"....opposed, meaning, unlike, apart from? I dunno, semantics get weird...I do tend to switch thoughts without much punctuation.

But anyway...

Out of the two official releases on LP # 5, which is the generally favored one? I find HDWK rather generic myself...didn't really like Raise The Alarm either, although I know that's only a rough live sketch. Wasn't very excited about this album at all until hearing White Noise (and a very low quality version of Moment In The Sun)...now I'm juiced!

"as opposed to how do we know blah blah blah listen to the ambient stuff"

Hahaha :p

Tonight I heard Make The Call for the first time - I like it! I reckon after a few more listens it could become a fave. Reminds me of the Roll On album kinda sound.

Moment In The Sun has changed a bit since the longnecks and in a good way too! Loaded Gun also has a few changes too, I noticed.

I'm looking forward to hearing the final recordings of Loaded gun and Moment in the sun as well as waiting for the silence they all sounded great in Sydney...Oh well just over a month to go now, I really cant wait!

The ending of waiting for the silence reminds me of both Staring at the light and 10:15 saturday night stuck together :p

Make The Call was kick ass last night!

Moment In The Sun was very very catchy...Raise The Alarm hasn't changed that much

Really liked loaded gun, make the call was great too. And yeah like jimmy said, raise the alarm only has some added drums here and there.

I'd been thinking you were meaning they played the Thin Lizzy song Jailbreak, but I guess the AC/DC version makes much more sense!

On a related note, has anyone noticed how much the middle 8 of Jailbreak sounds like POS?
