Hey all

I saw a bigsby kit at Allans music awhile ago and was wondering what goes into the process of putting a bigsby onto a guitar.

do you have to do anything major to your guitar to put one on?

anything along those lines.

thanks in advance :D

Jimmy

ps.I've got a es 335 copy

What guitar you're planning to put it on? I think it is very much more difficult to put it on solid bodies than hollowbodies. Worse more if its not a gretsch (correct me if I'm wrong please..?)

bigsbys aren't exclusively for gretsch guitars. hell you can even get a bigsby for a tele.

I'm seriously considering putting one on my Epi Dot (hollowbody). I heard it's pretty costly though, and I'm not exactly rolling in dough.

I'm looking at the bigsby on my 5120 right now and it looks like all you'll really need to do is drill a couple of holes to screw the base of it into, right near the straplock.

I'm not sure of this but for some bigsbys, they're just held down by the force of the strings. I have never taken all of the strings off my guitar yet but I was under the impression if I did, the bigsby would sorta hang off.

With most solid body guitars, I think you really do have to drill holes into your guitar. That's what I meant with the previous post cuz I thought that gretsches (and other hollowbodies) are very adaptable to the bigsby whereas solid bodies you gotta put some screws in it.

yeah,I have a es-335 copy.

holes near the straplock only? Hope it doesn't get to the electronics inside!

It'd be SHWEET to have one on.

I'll check out Allans this weekend to see if they have it in stock still.

You still have to screw the bigsby in on a gretsch...

Tele with a bigsby:

I know there are two screws at the bottom beside the black bit in the middle.
I've had my eye on one of these for a few years now. :)

anyway my point is that it wouldn't be too hard to put the right bigsby on the guitar it's meant to go on.

i went though that to!!! -- those of you trying to put bigsby tremolo arms on their guitars-- i hear its not a good idea....ive got an es355 and apparently they can constantly snap strings and put it out of tune unless theyre done by a professional...and even then they have a tendency for string loosening

its funny though - all the es355 owners are interested, all that room behind the stop bar!!

oh by the way, there was originally a dot variation with a trem...i think it was a bigsby one...anyway it didnt do too well because of the previously mentioned downsides-so they discontinued it...
