AFL - It's Finals Time

It's finals time and things are getting really interesting. Every single one of these finals could go either way and it kicks off Friday night at The M.C.G with Melbourne and St.Kilda. Make no doubt about it, if a Vic team is going to take out the flag this year,it will come from one of these two sides. I like St.Kilda here and feel that they could be real smokies to win the flag.

Adelaide vs. Fremantle is an interesting one. This will test Adelaides depth and we will finally see how good Fremantle really are. I'm going to go with Adelaide but I have no clue.

West Coast and Sydney should be close with the games they have had over the last year. But Sydney will have to pull something out of the back to beat and fairly in form West Coast line up at home.

Western Bulldogs vs. Collingwood will produce an upset. Collingwood do not deserve to be $1.50 favourites and are unpredictable. The Bulldogs run will be too much for the Pies

Lets get the the Brownlow too. I was going to put some money on but I can only see Goodes or Judd winning it and I don't want to put money on the favourites. Goodes has had a better year than his brownlow winning one and obviously attracts the umpires votes. A number of games that are sure to be best on ground for him. Judd has been good, but not his best year. Lots of West Coast midfielders could steal the votes from him so he will have his work cut out.
Goodwin won't win.

Right structure? Flooding all their players into the midfield and leaving Hall and O'cocklan in the forward line? Then holding up play until all their players flood back? I'd hardly call that THE RIGHT STRUCTURE. I'd call it the most boring and demeaning structure the AFL has ever seen. Like I've said before ANY team could play like that. It's just shit and it's turning AFL into Rugby.

Not every team has Hall and O Loughlin in their forward so no, not every team could do it. It won them the game and it's amazing that such a simple style of play can unsettle the Eagles. The difference in the games between the Eagles and the Swans is the forward lines. Lynch has improved but had a shocker and no impact whatsoever. Other than that there is Staker who is no star and a bunch of midfielders that have been put up forward. Sydney have Hall, arguably the best CHF in the comp, O Loughlin, O'Keefe, Davis, Schneider and Buchanon.
Kerr and Embley will not turn your team around and win you the premiership. West Coasts midield is not the problem.
For the record, i'm a Port supporter. I'm supporting the Bulldogs in the finals because my favourite player, Brett Montgomery plays for them.

If Collingwoods forward line performed every week then they'd be a good chance for the flag... but they're not that good, like the Eagles forward line. Finals football shows who are the good players and who are the poor ones. St Kilda sacks coach Grant Thomas
St Kilda has sacked Grant Thomas as coach of the AFL club.

The club made the announcement four days after the Saints' season ended with the Friday night elimination final loss to Melbourne.

Thomas took over from Malcolm Blight as coach during the 2001 season and guided the Saints to the 2004 and 2005 preliminary finals.

He also played 72 games for the Saints from 1978-83 and another 11 for the Kangaroos and Fitzroy.

Assistant coaches John Longmire (Sydney), Mark Harvey (Fremantle) and current Saints assistant Matt Rendell are the early candidates to take over from Thomas.

About time St.Kilda realised Thomas was the wrong man for the job. Watch out for the Saints in '07

Well the Eagles won by a little more than I expected, but it's amazing how much of a difference Kerr, Embley, Hanson & Seaby will make to the team!!! GO EAGLES! And in doing so it's given Kerr, Embley some match fitness in prep for the Grand Final by having the extra game. Some speculation at Adelaide that Brett Burton, Mark Riccuto & Andy McLeod could come back. However Roo hasn't started training fully yet so it's almost certainly a no go. Macca has been training but not full sessions so it's unlikely. Brett Burton has been training flat out so it's a good chance.

McGregor is a chance too, although the footy writers don't rate him a chance in a "winning outfit"...especially since his AFL form was shite before he got injured. He's done alright in the SANFL the last week or so though.

Tens coverage is fine. No bullshit, no fancy cameras and most of the commentators were ok. Stephen Quartermain is a really underrated commentator imo. It's also interesting that in the paper today there was an article saying how this could be the next Brisbane Lions type dynasty and they could win the next few. It's defiantley possible with the list they have but if the Swans managed to kick a goal in the last minute the media would not have had the same reaction. It really could have gone either way.
