View Full Version : Re-invention of the TLE

Has anyone else noticed that the TLE have seem to have reinvented themselves with each album. They've changed direction in a subtle way to keep all the older fans clinging on, they're not afraid to experiment and mix in other aspects which might not appeal to the "TLE purists" so to speak, yet at the same time they're attracting younger fans with each album. I feel they are one of the few bands who can claim to have the winning formula!!!

The winning formula is to change your winning formula?!

"Change" in itself is part of the winning formula. As much as some of us would love to have seen TLE play Hellbound/IFYOG songs for the rest of their life they probably wouldn't have achieved quite the same success without evolving.

I work hard to keep it at a managable level. It will serve you well to bump your resolution above 800x600 and move on.

wouldn't that be the goal of every band?
to make each album sounding different, appealing to new audiences, but still staying loyal to their roots?
TLE have definitely done that i reckon
the punkabilly self titled, then the more polished pub rock of roll on, the interesting pop of MA...and now i guess white noise really is something different
they do do it well
and theres no way, no matter where they go, that they'll lose the diehards
they're just too good!
its that blend of what they like playing and what they've been defined as thats seeing each album being unique without not sounding like the living end
can't wait for the next direction :)

I think SOE was the big generational change album. The old fans moved away and new ones came in. I would put Green Day's success right before SOE as a way of attracting new fans as they also had the generational fan change and then they promoted TLE heavily and a lot of their fans got into TLE. That's one aspect anyway. Personally I think SOE is their weakest (not that its weak..tough call). TLE are a musicians band though, they aren't 3 dudes who decided to learn instruments to have a crack at being famous so they are always going to challenge themselves musically on each album, rather than follow trends to sell albums... oh I could name so many in this category! Especially american bands and loads of local bands.
