Hi Guys :)
So at work last week, Sally (woman I work with) and I were bored and sat around talking. By the end of the day, we had come up with a bunch of questions which we would like answers too:
1. What are NZ shopping trolleys called?
Could be called something different in the city/town of Alexandra only, as that's the only place that Sal noticed the different name (she can't recall it now).
2. What's the difference between a dolphin and a porpoise?
3. What's that 'V' shaped muscle that fit males/male athletes etc have?

4. If you're from Australia, you're an Australian.
If you're from America, you're American.
Canada - Canadian
Iceland - Icelandic
Switzerland - Swiss
Netherlands - Dutch = DOESN'T FIT WITH THE COUNTRY NAME!!!
If you're able to follow what I mean, can anyone else think of a country that doesn't have a matching name for its people??
I thought of Greenland, but I haven't googled it yet, so I am not sure what they're called!
I know the answer to the Dolphin/Porpoise thing and sorta know the answer to the muscle one, but that's just going on my knowledge of 4 years of sport science study.

As for the poll, well....during high school, my mates found it funny that I drank from drink bottles with the bottle pointing out of the side/corner of my mouth, (45 degree kinda angle), and not from the front.
Only a few other girls did it, and they too were big into sports and competed in some sport or another. We came to the conclusion that athletes drinking using their bottle from the side of their mouths, haha.
One girl in our class thought it was to do with how your mum positioned a baby feeding bottle on your mouth when you were young.
So what do you guys do? And are you an athlete/compete in sports??

I know that this may seem dumb/stupid/whatever, but I've seriously always wanted to know the drink bottle thing! And yeah, would love to know the shopping trolley one too. My friend google didn't help.

Back in the days when I played basketball three times a week I always used to find myself drinking from my water bottle from the side of my mouth and all my team mates found it strange. I found it easier to breathe when you've just come off the court and still get a decent amount of fluid intake.
Although when i'm not playing sport I just drink like most people do i guess with the bottle infront of my face. Weird, and what the heck are you doing up Nicole?
The dutch name for the country is nederland, the people nederlanders and the language nederlands so the distinction is an english language one.
I do know that the names we have for european countries now often come from way back when we were all a bunch of tribes running around europe.
So, my guess would be that in early germanic, or french or proto-indoeuropean or whoever Engish stole the word from, 'dutch' were the people who inhabited that little area.
Something else interesting is that Germany is called heaps of different things depending on what language you speak.
this wikipedia article explains that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_Germany
as for other countries that follow this pattern, I cheated and there is none that I would say that differ significantly to the name of the country.

wait, what are people from vatican city called? I can't find anything where they are actually called anything
I guess theres no real native population of the place, but people still live there...so they've got ot be called something right?!
edit:
Vatican City (Holy See) Citizen of the Holy See
haha, that's just boring.
2nd edit
the cia work factbook says there is none. So there's my answer. People from vatican city = nothing.
I cannot answer the poll, because I drink different ways depending on what kind of bottle it is

Ohhh, Vatican City! That was a good one Kylie! But its weird that they don't have something that we can call them...how boring.
here's a non-country one.
people from newcastle, nsw and newcastle england are called novocastrian.
novo=new in latin.
Although it has the same meaning, i think it sounds different enough to count!

i had one of these a while ago, took me all arvo to remember :p
if you're a mute, do you make a noise when you cough, sneeze etc?
i asked like four different teachers and none of them could tell me.
but to be fair how many mutes to do meet and then ask to sneeze/cough on a day-to-day basis.

Deaf guy in my class doesnt (apparently cant) talk, but makes a funny almost laugh noise when he's amused. Vaguely recall hearing him cough too.

I like the idea that folks from Luxembourg are called Luxemburgers.

I think generally they would make a noise. it really depends on the person and and why they are mute. if they are the type that is mute to avoid attention then it's likely they will try to hold back or hide a sneeze or cough. they would have developed ways that they can do it as silently as possible. for the other types I think they would also have figured out ways to do it quietly but not neccessarily hold back on them
I have a fact about luxembourg: Because it is so small it has a really small gross national product. However, they have a pretty excellent gdp resulting in 50 000 per capita due to the citizens/businesses of their country doing excellent work in other countries.
