View Full Version : Album track comparisons: Track 2

In the light of the success of the first album comparison for track 1, track no. 2's will now go head to head to see what ranks as the most favoured 2nd track of The Living End Albums. Once again the competition is tough. Some classics, some singles and some dark horses.
Please note that it seems clear that it's not cool to do 14 of these threads, at least not at once. So it might take some time but I think we might eventually get there over a long period of time. Happy voting!
I voted Growing Up.this one means a lot to me,I love sense of the song, damn amazing vocals (fits so much!) and overall it's one of my most favourite tle songs.probably best S/T song(to me),either.

Growing Up was recently retired from it's job as my ringtone, so I'm giving it the vote because i feel bad.
Now this one is just impossible for me! But I can tell you it's not Tabloid Magazine...

Well tabloid gets last place, no question. 3rd place goes to pictures which is a good song but no winner.
After that its very tricksy cause both are excellent.
Growing up has been a fave of mine for a loooong time - May even made me a t-shirt (thanks May).
However Raise the Alarm is another kickarse song with brilliant lyrics that really apeal to me.
I think they come equal first til i become a little more decisive :o

Ah, Tab Mag or Growing Up, but I went with Tab Mag.
I chose long live, firstly because it was seriously lacking votes, and also it was a special song to me when it came out and it is equal to raise the alarm, pictures, and growing up... Tab mag has just lost its touch on me these days. rip

I reckon tabloid rocks! It is a hard track to choose though. Personally LLTW is my least fav, I think its a good song but didn't really think it should have been a single over we want more. On the LLTW note, I wonder why they left off the intro in he single version when they put it on the album?

Definatly growing up (falling down) The energy is amazing! great vocals and sound. RTA a close second though, PITM great song but TM just doesnt really do it for me.

this is really funny
nobody wanted a bar of Prisoner, and yet everybody votes for Growing Up?
i really do like that song...pictures in the mirror not so much
tabloid is alright...heard it too many times though
it comes down to LLTW, for its classic theme and Raise The Alarm for its kickass uptempo heaviness
i went raise the alarm
absolutely love the verse/chorus structure, with the build up

How is that relevent? Sorry for sounding like a tool.

Yeah, i'm sure even the band would agree that growing Up is a better song than Prisoner. Not to mention the fact that Prisoner has been slammed to within an inch of its life thanks to its early popularity.
I actually think that Growing Up was one of the weaker songs on S/T, I could never really get in to it
I voted for Raise the Alarm btw, just above PITM and LLTW

Ok, gonna go a little more in depth with my analyses here, lol :D (in order of preference)
1. RTA got my vote. Just the way it tackles the somewhat tentative issue of religion from an unbiased view. Plus technically its really a fantastic song; incorporating both new and old ideals of TLE's music.
2. (Re: Above post) Growing Up does feel a little apart from the other songs on the S/T, seems to lack the harder hitting rawness of many of the other songs.
Yet I like the constant tempo of this song and it has some really great lyrics to it checking at the world from a different angle - one of my fav lines of TLE, says alot about their music in general too.
3. Tab Mag: Love the start of this song. Really gets me drawn in at the start but the opening verse with the softer (than expected) vocals kinda depletes that energy. Still, it's a very well written song, and the lyrics are spot-on with the perception of the Tabloid media. But don't believe in all you read! :D
4. PITM, while it's got a great upbeat tempo, for me it feels too, eh, I don't know, 'done before' I suppose. Still a good listen every so often.
5. LLTW...Can't help think of the Easybeats. >< But I can still appreciate the song for its meaning, though in a sense, it's a bit of a redo of I Want a Day (one of my top favs)- which I'd say is a far better song then LLTW.
Hmm, that's five yes? Good. Done. :D

Growing up is a rad song, i bet it hasn't been played live in a long time! I still think LLTW is the worst of those 5. Worst is a bad word to use but maybe the weakest. I voted for tabloid cause I just dig it. intro and solo are good and a pretty cool thing to sing about, something different. PITM has some great elements but I always thought it was a song trying to do a bit much. Raise the alarm is my 2nd, I really rate it musically and lyrically, probably not as melodic as some of their other songs though.

Tabloid Mag was the standout song on Modern Artillery when we heard it for the first time.

If we get to the end of this I will add up the number of votes per album and see what order we get. Even though it's not a true representation of comparison I think it will be interesting to see. I guess white noise being 11 tracks will suffer unless we include some other tracks to make up 14.

track 3 by the end of the week... keeping it spaced. It is a very tough one...
Its pretty suprising that growing up beat all those others that were singles and LLTW was last, although in my book rightly so...
