Hehe...thanks. It was really nice (apart from the whole Kannisto family nearly cracking up over one of the churchy bits...seriously, go and read psalm 23, it's dirty. DIRTY!), managed not to cry until little Chelsea got up and read a poem for him. It was like a chain reaction - mum started, then Tina, then Amanda and then me. Waterworks galore.
In other news, everyone needs to go and buy this month's Rolling Stone magazine, there's a great little interview/article with Cam from Cola Wars in it. Check it yo :)

Yeah it was really good. I got into a 'heated discussion' with one guy, but I think I made him look like a dick because he was getting agro and I was smiling.. And at the end of it, three or four people behind him said, "oh, can I get one of those then (Labor 'how to votes' that I was handing out)".
It was freezing, but I was right into it. Most people were pretty good about getting bombarded with flyers.

Stop livin' in the past maaaaan!!!
But seriously.. Freight all going to be trucks?
Also.. Riddle me this. Is your train gauge different to ours? It looks narrower. I guess it wouldn't have had to conform to the national gauge being on yer own island and all.
Colezy
08-25-2010, 12:10 PM
A lot of the freight is trucks anyway (my dad works for TNT and they do a shiteload of it), but yeah, it looks that way.
And yes, I think they are narrower. When there was talk of having a fully functional passenger system to/from Hobart-Hobart's Northern Suburbs, it was mentioned that they'd have to replace them due to the type of trains that'd be used.
Something like that.
Sarah
08-25-2010, 12:11 PM
Well, I was on my bike. At a red light in town I had a choice of two lanes that were going straight ahead and I decided to stop into the lane that didn't have a parked car in it just after the intersection (the lane on the right). That way the bus behind me wouldn't make me drive over the top of the parked car like they always try to make me do because they think for some reason they don't have to give way to me when I am in front of them. Plus the bus had been following me for about a km, so it would have been able to plainly see that I was not riding slowly, and in fact it was all the cars in front of me holding me up whenever we previously stopped at traffic lights. So the bus decided that even though I was faster, it was going to pull up in the left lane, the one with the car parked in it and try to drag me off, presumable hoping to pass me before the end of the intersection and before reaching this car. The only way this would be possible is if I just sat there and didn't move. So, he ran the red light, but the best he could do was drive along side me, pushing me out the far right. That is where I got the puncture. The end.
Seriously, taxis and buses are the worst. I'd take trucks and b-doubles any day.
Jessii

Well that's just retarded. I would say, "THE Aussies..." as it's a reference to the people. A country can't do anything... it's people do the actions. The land, itself, just sits there and is lived on. That's like saying "Australia is playing well" no, you say "The Australians..." You wouldn't say, "America is..." you'd say, "The Americans..." Maybe it's just me. Maybe Australia is just too many syllables for an announcer to say so they shorten it... but w/e
And I say "Aussieland". Land of (the) Aussies. I think it's just a funny term, like I call Canada- Canadia, or America's Hat. It's cute
But if it really irritates you that much, I'll really try to stop doing it
... or take the route of Glenn and keep doing it :D

Oh, I've seen some that couldn't tell you where states in the CONTINGENT 48 are! It's madness!
And y'all only have 7 provinces/states, so I don't know if I could say that some Australians don't know where, say, NSW is on a map. Maybe it'd be easier to ask people where cities are. I'm sure you'll find some that couldn't tell you were Perth or Darwin are or w/e, lol

I have no problem with "Australia is playing well" It's no different to "Collingwood are playing well" Obviously it doesn't literally mean the whole country of Australia, or suburb of Collingwood. It means the team. Sports commentators do this all the time.
The thing that is weird is the shortening of "Australia" to "Aussie" which Australians don't do. Aussie is only short for Australian.
I'm quite sure you do this all the time, not just for 'aussieland'.
I know its a bit of a weird/petty thing to be annoyed about, but i'm allowed to have one flaw. Hurrhurrhurrr.
Also: we have six states and two territories.*
This is what they teach you in school anyway, there's actually more territories, like Christmas island is a territory, but I think these other territories are treated differently because they're not mainland ones.

I don't really think so. We tend to learn the locations of the capitals in conjunction with the states. Well, I think that's what I did at school anyway.
I actually have more faith in Australians AND Americans to locate major things on a map. Surely Alaska and Hawaii would be the easiest states to remember, too!

because it's a state, not a territory, I suspect. Plus a significant population live there.
Also it would just be annoying to have to remember all the relatively insignificant territories listed here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/States_and_territories_of_Australia#States_and_Ter ritories). Especially the ones that don't even have people on them.

I really don't have much left to do on it, but after wroking for 2 hrs and still being in the same spot, I'm done for the night. Off to the girl's! :flowers:

There was a train strike here a fortnight ago. Only the way the drivers decided to strike was to all call in sick on the same day. Pretty frustrating when i lack a drivers license and need to get to work.

Sydney always has trackwork going on. I guess its the price you have to pay for having such a gigantic rail network.
I guess it's the price you pay for having stuff that runs on rails. If you get a hole in the road you drive around it. If you get a hole in the traintrack you stop til it's fixed!

Man... I'd love to eat some pasta right now. I think we're having beef instead. Oh well, will still be good

I just found out my grandpappy wrote on a wall above a urinal in WW2! It was found in the basement of the brisbane town hall!
I hope he wrote something amusing and not too disgusting.

Grrr. Hate being sick AGAIN and hate how sensitive my stomach's been lately and hate ALL the ridiculous ailments I seem to have amassed and beyond anything, I HATE Centrelink with a vengeance. I hate that after being sick for 3 weeks I was too weak to get into any decent exercise routine 'til last week, and now I'm back to the drawing board.
S'not all bad though. I love that I covered a shift on friday night in exchange for getting all of today off, meaning I get to sit at home warm and cosy doing homework and reading sunday papers.
I love that deadlines are all looming but I've managed to stay on track with work so I think I'll be able to produce solid products and on time.
I LOVE that I'm going to Semi-Permanent on friday and saturday... especially excited for the Pixar talk.
I love that there's a Cats & Dogs 2 coming out, I had no idea!

Oh yar... hate that the dog's been accused of mauling another dog and we've been landed with half its vets bills, and the car just broke down. Couple'a super sizeably priced bummers there. Just means the mood around here's pretty glum, and not the most pleasant place to be.

HERE IS A TENNIS RANT
I hate that the US open isn't being shown on free to air TV, and even Wimbledon probably won't be next year, but they're showing Australia V Belgium in the Davis Cup next week (boring).
I wish tennis viewers were less patriotic and more interested in watching tennis.
I have a solution though. Let's steal some spanish tennis players and bring them back here and turn them into true blue Aussie champions oi oi oi.
Safin V Hewitt in 2005 is still the highest rating thing this century but nobody wants to watch tennis anymore because australia sucks at tennis these days. Except for sam stosur.
If anyone wants to look at the list of high rating things 2001-2009.
http://www.throng.com.au/ratings/masterchef-cracks-two-million-ratings
I kind of wish I could like AFL or something as much as I like Tennis. If I'm kinda jealous that you get to watch something you really like every weekend for six months and numerous shows devoted to it, whereas tennis fans just get two weeks in january, and 30 seconds on the news. (unless you have pay tv, but even them i'm not sure how well they cover tennis)
Then again, I'll never get the parochialism that comes with team sport so I'm going to wait it out...GO TEAM TENNIS.

I do not like tennis, I find it incredibly boring. But I don't really like any sport so *shrugs*.
Love that I finally sorted some shit out this weekend, and...well, sorry fellas but this little kitten is officially off the market.
Love that I'm kinda looking forward to doing something that I'd ordinarily cringe at.

Well, I'd club a baby seal, but you know I won't ingest it. I'd tell my vegan girlfriend. You know I wouldn't suggest it. All my shoes are leather. And I don't care whether or not all the cute little animals were to be shot.
nah, not vegetarian. My mum is, and my sister is vegan which is really really fucking annoying. I'm probably equally as annoying though cos I'll only eat free-range.

Yeah, think I've seen that one too. If the patient/patient's family told the whole truth from the start then it would have been properly diagnosed in about three seconds
lol. I still kinda like that show though.

They've actually had a few people who didn't get saved in the end!
I like the story arcs as well each episode's predictable patient bits.
For some reason the season finales are always about 10 times better than the rest of the season. The last three have been awesome.
