New unreleased track in October?

I was on the Powderfinger forums and I found this:

"Ric Grossman, Hoodoo Gurus bassist has been organising a fundraising CD for the rehab centre The Buttery (in northern NSW).
Powderfinger has been named among the artists who are contributing an "unreleased/rare" track.
Due out in October."

Among other artists, The Living End has been mentioned. I'm not sure what track but it sounds like most artists are contributing rare/unreleased tracks. Could it be RATS???

my gut feeling is that it will be a 'rare' track, in otherwords we've already heard it, rather than an unreleased track. However, we do have the fact that they have a bunch of demos from the white noise sessions still floating around. I still think there is a good chance that it will be their way of releasing new frontier in australia. I think Rats is seen as a bit too high profile for a random compilation CD. I reckon they want it as a release on their own terms. Who knows...we'll have to wait and see. Personally I'd like something older and unreleased because I think we'll get most/all of the white noise songs on future singles.

Living Underground can be completely changed though. I like the chorus in the song, and that sounds nothing like New Frontier.

I thought the band has been quoted as saying that living underground was never recorded? Or was that just a studio recording? I don't think it will see the light of day even as the demo as New Frontier has now used some of it's elements. They won't be bothered going and rewriting Living Underground and re recording it for this CD... sadly, I think unless you are best mates/related to the band you will never hear a recording of it, if it exists... Bully on the other hand...fingers crossed!

Yeh, Rick Grossman is one of my lecturers at college in Sydney. I remember a few months back mentioning he was working with Neil Finn on an album (ovbiously this one) and it also featuring other aussie artists!

Down To The Wire will probably never be released - it was mentioned in Blunt Magazine as the last demo Chris did before the album recording, and he had written so many songs that his voice was "shredded". Apparently, the vocals on the demo sound pretty bad, from what the article briefly mentioned - so I doubt it'll see the light of day.

If anyone can dig up the article scans from the Links and Clippings thread, you can read it for yourself.

I remember, on one of the old sites in the band interview section, they talked about having tons and tons of leftover demos (somewhere in the ballpark of 50..well, 50 songs recorded total, do the math for what's leftover after the records came out) for all the albums...I think this was probably shortly after Roll On came out and they were gearing up for the original album #3 (still with Trav in the band)...so I'm with the folks pulling for an old tune from the vault that hasn't yet reached civilian ears.

Talking to Scott at a "fan club MEAT n' great" on the "Aussie Invasion Tour" (2003, TLE OPENED (blasphemy!!) for Jet and The Vines on a shrimp-on-the-bah-bee themed tour) he talked about the possibliity they kicked around was that one day, when they're old and possibly on hiatus, the band would put out a massive box set with just heaps and heaps of songs that never managed to get released over the years...so maybe we'll get something like that..*salivates*

Nope - in fact it was on last year's Triple J Hottest 100, within the top 20 if i'm not mistaken. I guess it's on because it's relevant to the compilation, theme-wise?

Well rather than alcohol or drug related, I think WSOTT has a theme of redemption, or maybe even dependence? "I needed someone like you..." etc, meaning that the song could be telling the story of a person who needs someone to get through their life - or someone battling depression who depends on another person or people to live their life.

I can see it easily relating to someone who had a drug or alcohol problem, and trying to seek help. Of course it might not have been written about that, but it can definitely be interpreted that way

I'll upload the artwork this weekend. As for the songs, it was more about the theme. It also did say rare or unreleased...but I'm not aware of too many unreleased ones on there. I know the grinspoon and powderfinger ones were previously only available on I tunes so this is a hard copy version. Still wouldn't be a bad CD all in all.
