Thought this would be a cool idea for the forum. Anyone can post whenever they find a cool new word but make sure there's always one for each day. I'll start us off.

Yay! English!

I'm really interested in etymology, so here's some etymology for this word

1443, from L. surrepticius "stolen, furtive, clandestine," from surreptus, pp. of surripere "seize secretly," from sub "from under" (hence, "secretly") + rapere "to snatch" (see rapid).

I've seen people use circumlocution when they need to say something that is going to hurt someone's feelings.

c.1510, , from circum- "around" + locutionem (nom. locutio) "a speaking," from stem of loqui "to speak.

I challenge! you to find a germanic word next, rather than a french/latin one. If you find one it will probably be a little word

too late. I'm accepting my own challenge, even though nobody seems particularly interested in this thread anyway.

lissom \LISS-uhm\, adjective;
also lissome:
1. Limber; supple; flexible.
2. Light and quick in action; nimble; agile; active.

this word is from old english so is non-latinate in origin. It derives from the word 'lithe'
