As title states I am on the lookout for a double bass.

I am totally green and have very little music history (played guitar for a year when i was 13 and haven't touched anything else including the guitar since).

Some of my mates play guitar and drums and they always whinge that they don't have a bassist to jam with so i thought i might try my hand at the double bass.

Unfortunately, i don't know much about it besides that it is a fretless instrument and it can be difficult to play. I'd rather not have to play with a bow.

Price wise, i want the cheapest thing i can find in case i don't like it and switch to a bass guitar instead.

would something like that be suitable for my wants?

I don't know too much about double basses but I've read a lot of forums about it to find out about the bets type of double bass to buy, and I've noticed people tend to say that you shouldn't buy a bass for less than around $1500 as it will most likely fall apart and end up costing more to fix than buying a better one.

At the moment I'm hiring a double bass until I can afford to buy a Slap King, because I've heard a lot of good things about King Double Basses, so maybe if you're not sure if you'll like it you could find somewhere to hire one from?

Encase you were interested, the forum I was reading was: http://rockabillybass.com/phpBB/

If you're new to playing an instrument, and keen to play bass, I would still suggest for you to play the bass guitar as a double bass is a keen investment.

true that. thats what i did. and its alot better when u get around to gettin ur double coz u can play it sort of already. and its alot more fun than if u just got a double and had no clue
