I think that's a fantastic point....and i think that there are expectations, particularly on women to do certain things, that really shouldn't be just "what you have to do" but rather something that a loving couple would decide themselves depending on what they feel comfortable with. I'd offer oral sex as a prime example.

By the same argument, there are several other topics/posts/people who are violating the rules. People who get up in arms about sexually-oriented material and not about racist/violent/irresponsible material don't have their priorities straight. Sure, pornography is degrading, and shouldn't be accepted as okay without question, but some of the stuff on the evening news is more objectionable, surely? People seem to be offended by a little bit of bare skin, and not of images of dead children.
Anyway, I don't really have anything else to say. I could deny having watched pornography and you may or may not believe me, so it doesn't matter. The concept of sex for an appetite rather than sex for love is a bit distasteful, I think.

apparently, 1) it's all biological, he can't control himself (this is the same line of reasoning behind the 'all men are naturally rapists' theory)
and 2) if a girl feels insecure after knowing that her boyfriend looks at porn, then it's her set of issues, not his. (because the pornstar body definitely isn't the ideal female body or anything.)

Ha, I recently wrote an essay (or "ethical enquiry") on this for Philosophy. Called 'the censorship of pornography due to it's degradation of women'. I was kinda hoping my teacher would be knocked out by the title and not concentrate on the poor quality of writing. Anyway. I think... it's one of those things best in moderation, when it takes up your whole life and replaces a realistic image of what women are like - then you have an issue. But definitely it's yet another pressure for girls, having to live up (or just feeling like they have to live up to) a certain image is horrible. But that's not just porn's fault really. Ergh sorry if I sounded like a bit of a wanker.

I think that in a way society already accepts Rock Stars, Movie Stars, Supermodels, Athletes and so on and so forth as - 'unrealistic'
Not that their status, look, talent etc is unachievable - but that society has become so lazy that very few of us are driven enough to strive for those goals.
Not everyone can achieve these levels, but most can get very close. I believe people want to be like the above celebrities and what not - but try and find the quick fix solution like liposuction and such.
But on the otherhand, some b!tches be ugly - and theres no fixin that.

There's actually a lot of issues with pornography censorship causing more problems than it supposedly may prevent.
With the stuff that can be sold to anyone (M 15+ I think), 'Picture', 'People', etc, they have to photoshop the genitalia so that everything's neatly packaged, and nothing dangles at all.
The problem arises when some 15 y/o leaves it lying around, his GF stumbles apon it, realises she's not so neatly packaged, and develops a complex. I'm not saying that all girls are gullible or anything, it's like anything though, there's always some.

I'm guessing your essay goes beyond just the aesthetic perfection that already exists in media, that isn't a new topic. So what is a "realistic woman" when it comes to sex and any expectations that porn may create?

I found a website a while back, it was a bloke who does photoshop work. He had a section of studio model work, and it showed the original picture with the 'finished' version as an overlay, so you could literally see how much leg had been skimmed off or how the skin was 'smoothed' and in many cases, re-coloured. In most cases, there was poorly skilled photography work. By using a different light or a more flattering position, some of that airbrushing wouldn't have been needed...
Also, although I agree with the Dove 'Campain for Real Beauty', I think it's a bit hypocritical when they're saying, 'be happy with the skin you're in and the body you have' while advertising some fake tan...
Anyway, back to porno.. Has anybody read the book 'Haunted' by Chuck Palahniuk? There's an interesting passage in that referring to porn stars and the fake bodies etc.

Yeah you're probably right. I think the most obvious way to remedy this is greater communication in relationships. But for some reason that often doesn't happen.

I have a game that i found out today.
Here's how it works. Seeing as 10% of the net is porn, it shouldn't be too hard.
You start on google with a simple innocent word (take 'dictionary for example') and you have to see how many hyperlinks it take to get to a porn site. BUT you aren't allowed to type anything except the keyword (dictionary). All you can do is follow hyperlinks and links.
When i tried with dictionary it took me 14 clicks.

I WENT INTO A PORN SHOP WITH MIRM. IT WAS A FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE
I really wouldnt watch any porn that describes the women in it as SLUTZ and WHOREZ and that kind of thing. I dont know, i'm not really an avid porn watcher. I think i prefer homo porn.

Whenever I go near or see and adult store I ask mom "What would happen if I walked in there?" She usually gives me a silly look and/or rolls her eyes. :p
