I guess by now you have all heard about Madonna adopting 13-month-old David Banda from Malawi. After visiting several orphanages there, she applied to adopt the boy, who has a father. He is happy for his son to live with Madonna and Ritchie, and is happy that they agreed to bring him back to visit regularly.

Of course, one of the main uproars here is that she has all but bypassed the system of adoption! Usually it involves the parents spending several months in Malawi, being evaluated by the relevant social services and whatnot, before a child is even introduced. And even then, it would probably be an orphan - ie. a child without loving parents.

What do you think about this whole dealio? Too much money, not enough sense? A new fashion, adopting children from 3rd world countries? A fantastic idea to save a child from a life of poverty?

I reckon if she's that adament at helping children in poverty, she should support an orphanage (she can obviously afford it) and help to provide job opportunities for the children so that they can help themselves in life.

Definately publicity stunt of some kind.. and especially since it's a kid who has a dad, and a celebrity bypassing 'the system'. It annoys me. I haven't got much else to add though :P

Yeah, she should have to do it the same way as everyone else.

I think normally, she would have to stay in Malawi for 18 months before she can adopt the kid.

I don't necessarily think its a publicity stunt. I dont really think anyone would adopt a kid for publicity. I'd say she truly wanted the kid for valid reasons but probably wanted it the quick way and get celebrity/ rich people treatment.

It's all a bit rank really and i think there's another point here in that what kinda damage can you do to the child...especially going from one extreme to the other. Poverty to Riches. Plus of course now this child has to deal with publicity. I say Jake's point is valid...if Madonna wants to help children, support a charity or a specific orphanage or something...Children need a "normal" safe, private upbringing i think...

Man, If I moved to malawi I would have the best aquarium... so many cool fish come from lake malawi.

And yeah I think it's totally wrong to adopt a child with family when there are so many orphans.

I'd be hella scared if she adopted me.

She should dress her age. And her front cover of her new album.... Jeeeezuz I don't want to stare at her crotch. No-one does.

Kinda glad she's not coming to Australia on her world tour. We don't need her here. Andre Rieu is much better. heck, he even knocked her off top spot with his Aussie album
