anyone going? i'm thinking of going, and I was wondering whether anyone else was going

Rhiannon
10-24-2006, 08:10 PM
I'm also thinking about it. A friend of mine has been/is helping organise it. I remember her frustration when the Channels 9, 10 and the Herald Sun broke the story that U2 would be playing there when, in fact, they had only contacted U2 and were waiting for a reply.

If I'm free at the time I think I'll be going.

What is it?

Rhiannon
10-24-2006, 08:21 PM
It's a free concert aimed at raising support for the Make Poverty History campaign. From memory, it's being held at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The only people I remember from the line up are Eskimo Joe, Evermore and Sarah Blasko.

Dallas Crane? I heard Dallas Crane were playine, nay, READ that Dallas Crane were playing. Read it on their myspace no less. If i were to go, it'd be solely for them, but the chances of me going are ridiculously slim 'coz its midway through exams *sigh*. EXAMS ARE RUINING EVERYTHING. At the moment i'm missing out on three gigs, and new ones are popping up every week.

i don't see him on the webbie

Ohh, I may just be able to convince mum to go to this. I'd be going for Dallas Crane, Paul Kelly and perhaps Lior.

That site doesn't mention anything about Dallas Crane.. nor the price of tickets. Does that mean it's free? But then again, it doesn't say anywhere that it's a free gig.

State_Of_Emergency
10-24-2006, 09:07 PM
Erin said it's free to me..

Dallas Crane not on there... yeah

We can all go.. and meet up :D

(too bad it's not DURING school, or i'd get a free day off)

Dallas Crane? I heard Dallas Crane were playine, nay, READ that Dallas Crane were playing

there's gonna be a side concert for the people who didn't win tickets, you just come along, they'll play and there's gonna be a big screen with the hiltop hoods & and eskimo joe's sets on it.

Ally
10-24-2006, 09:08 PM
I did some random clicking on that site and found a bit that said Dallas Crane are playing at the Waterfront something-or-other and that it's free. It's on the same night as this but I'm not sure if it's the same event..

*wanders around in a circle whistling*

Moving right along... :p
I'm JOKING.

I've never had my parents accompany me to gigs
a) they're not hip enough to want to go
and
b) I probably wouldn't let them go.
Although i was more than willing to for the Stones, but we couldn't afford it, and there's rumours of Bob Dylan early next year so i'd definitely go with dad for that little event. Anyway, that's a touch off topic...

Erin
10-24-2006, 09:48 PM
just a question

when you go to underage/ all ages gigs, whats the go with parents? is it "drop you off and there outa there"? or what?

State_Of_Emergency

Kev

I'd go, but I have to work.

The U2 performing was just a rumour that was started by the BDO forum and naturally the media got wind of it.

Anyone else managed to win any?

Jawn
11-02-2006, 11:03 PM
You don't really need to win tickets. The venue is in a park. Just rock up early enough and sit yourself by the fence. You'll be able to at least hear it.

I signed up on the Make Poverty History Org site. They sent me an email with a number to sms, I did it and I won 2 tix. I'm really looking forward to the show.

I heard the other day there aren't any more tix being made available.

The SMS thing is over, but there's another way to win tickets for those who can be bothered:

Get creative, spread the message and WIN Concert Tickets!

We’re giving away 25 double passes to see the show for those who help raise awareness about the campaign. All you have to do is think about creative ways to display the Make Poverty History slogan to lots of people, do it, and send a pic and description of what you did to terrencer@oxfam.org.au before 9am Wednesday November 15 to be in the draw.

Please note only activities that are legal and positively represent the campaign are eligible. Multiple entries are allowed.

(from the website)

I would love to go but haven't got tickets... especially for Paul Kelly and the Hoods.

Jawn

Go. The venue is in the middle of the park. Just get as close to the venue as you can. You'd still be able to hear it.

Ally
11-18-2006, 08:19 AM
I got really excited when they announced Pearl Jam, then U2 walked on stage and stole the spotlight. (Yeah, I'm not a fan)

The night was really good. We were on the barrier of the back, grassy section. After the Hilltop Hood's set we walked to the back to get food and a toilet break. Everyone we went with were sitting down eating while me and a mate stood up the back of the crowd dancing and singing along, haha.

I spoke to Bec and mates, didn't recognise anyone else from the boards though. Who else went?

cdejonge
11-18-2006, 09:23 AM
Thanks for that Ally. I thought I saw Bec on one of the videos that were uploaded last night, but not sure. What was the view like from that back section? I think that's where I'll be for RHCP.

Also, did it seem full? It didn't look full from the videos, which is weird because many people missed out on tickets. I don't know what the capacity is there, but they said there was 14,000 people.

Ally
11-18-2006, 10:43 AM
Well we were two people from the front of the barrier, then when Hilltop Hoods came on we swapped with the girls in front of us. It was a pretty good view. You could see the people on stage, but it was easier to just look at the screen.

At the beginning, the front section looked really empty because everyone stood up and moved to the front, but by the end of the night, the area in front of us was packed. When the camera filmed the entire crowd (including us) it was huge. Yeah, there was 14 000 people there.

Where were you watching online? Was it simulcasted on the site or something?

cdejonge
11-18-2006, 11:06 AM
They put sections of it online as each section finished. It was through news.com.au/heraldsun. The videos may still be there.

Thanks for that Ally.

My mum was working on it, the start of the night passed in a blur of big hands, little hands, skinny hands, fat hands, dark hands, light hands, etc. She was putting everyone's wrist bands on.

AlinaPOW
11-18-2006, 03:22 PM
She's silly. She said it was U2. I found out this morning it was "U-Jam."
Sounds like a rip roaring night. Tape Woman, that was nice of the folks to swap spots with you!

Whoot, I'm famous  When do you think you saw me?

The gig was great! I missed out on seeing John Butler Trio and Paul Kelly whilst it was my shift for youth ambassadoring but I could still hear them so that was okay. For all the other bands I was in the front section, second rowish by the end. :D

Alina, I might have seen your mum!
But I didn't know it was her.
I thought I saw you too but I didn't.

It's a shame they cut out heaps of the gig on the broadcast on channel 10, I hope all the songs are on the dvd.
They didn't even put Nosebleed Section on :(

What did the youth ambassodoring involve and how did you get into zat oh Bec Dawg?

We just went around telling people about Make Poverty History and asking them to sign a petition to get fair trade, more aid and releif debt. I just got into it through a friend who told me they were needing more volunteers and signed up on a website somewhere.

In further inspection (to the point where I put it in slow motion and repeditively hit the pause button) it's not Bec.
