Alrighty! I'm after some help here, so if anyone has any ideas/solutions, that'd be great! :) Also use this thread if you have any problems or anything with your own iPod or mp3 player.

So, last night I added a bunch of songs, (about 25 or so), to my iPod, listened to them in bed and again on the bus this morning. Got to school, went to library tried to put it on shuffle but then instead of shuffling normally, it would skip through all of the songs until it got to the ones I added the night before and will only play those specific ones. Even if I select a certain album or artist, it skips through all of the songs and wont play 'cause none of the songs I added come under that album or artist.

When I say "skipping" I mean it flashes up with the name and artist for half a sec and then moves on to the next one.
I'm in the process of looking at the iTunes website, but no luck so far :(

Any ideas or help people?

Colezy

The only good thing is that the majority of songs I added were the TLE set from Oct 12! :p

Aaron
10-24-2006, 11:43 PM
12th of October? Luna Park gig? How'd you get recordings?

iPods... I have no idea. Don't like 'em. Have you tried completely refreshing the memory, removing all the songs then adding them again? Doesn't explain why, but it might fix it.

'have you tried turning it off and on again'

Colezy
10-24-2006, 11:48 PM
Nah. I dont want to have to do that just yet - it takes forever to put them back on!

Yup, that very same gig! There's a thread around here somewhere about it, but I can PM you the megaupload link :)

Colezy
10-24-2006, 11:49 PM
Yeah, tried that too, Julian.

Here is the thread, Aaron - Oct 12 (http://www.thelivingend.com/vBforum/showthread.php?t=323)

Aaron
10-24-2006, 11:54 PM
Ah, that thing. I didn't register that the thread was about that gig, because I hadn't heard of anyone recording it. The link still isn't public? Damn. But if you sent it by PM, that'd be grouse! Thanks :)

Hate to say it but I think the only way you can fix it is by taking off the new songs and go from there.

The only other way is to ditch the iPod and go with something more reliable.

Most people I know that own Ipods have had nothing but trouble with them.

I've yet to come across a mp3 player where the vast majority of people haven't had a problem at some stage. Zens have plenty of issues, Gigabeats apparently have some. iRivers maybe but I dunno bout the new ones.
I'm gonna send my zen in before the warranty runs out.

I've had my iRiver for a few years now.

Its been dropped, sat near a magnet, the works, and it has had NO battery problems, hardware/software issues.

The best bit is, that when I purchased it, it cost me $500. $200 less than what the 30gig video Ipod was worth at the time (Which was the closest model you could get that did video/photos etc) and it had a bigger capacity, didnt need some dodgy software to copy songs to it etc.

Im pretty sure that the default setting is that when you use itunes, it only lets you use music in a certain folder. Kinda like you have to have it on your pc, did you move the files?

It was designed I believe, to stop you from going to a friends place and just borrowing there music.

It is an option you can turn off however.

there's a program called anapod explorer, which lets you drag and drop songs to and from your ipod, if you don't want to use itunes

my ipod battery did die, but for $25 i bought a new battery, replaced it myself, and it works even better now

I haven't had any problems with my iPod yet. I got a 30gb video, everyone keeps telling me how crap they are but I love mine.

Colezy, did you download the operational manual when you got your iPod? I have no idea how to link it into this thread so if you need it give me a yell. It's a .pdf file that goes on for pages and pages, some of it is fairly useless but you might be able to find something in there to help you!

Now watch as my iPod screws up big time after I post this!

i love my ipod & would probably jump off a cliff without it but ive had problems. im on my second one now. my 1st one had a crap battery that would say it had run out when it was only 1/2 the way down! so luckily it was still under warranty & i took it back & got a replacement. my one at the moment is ok but when i choose a new song from the menu the whole thing freezes for about 15 sec & i cant change volume or anything! but ive learnt to accept it & deal with it.

by any chance is it one of the older 20gb models? mine did the same thing about 4-5 months ago. i tried to wipe everything off it and start again, turns out my ipod was just being a piece of shit, it hasn't worked since then. now every time i turn it on i get a picture of a folder with an exclamation mark. as far as i can tell it's just broken now as my computer doesn't even recognise it anymore.

See if you can turn off USB charging in one of the settings. My Iriver only allows for one (charging) or the other (data transfer), so see if that fixes it.

Mel, are you wanting to put photos and video on aswell?

If yes then I'd reccomend the iPod I got the other day. They're heaps cheaper now because another new generation is coming out in time for x-mas.

I've had my iPod for 1.5 years. I like it but recently it's started pissing me off. Like if I place it on the passenger seat in the car while driving very often it would just pause randomly although I didn't push pause obviously and there was nothing that could've rubbed against it. Even dodgier is that it paused itself a few times while i had the button lock thing on!!!! I mean WTF'??? What I also don't like about the iPods are the white panels. It's starting to look really nasty (dirty) on this end. :( They should make them silver or something flashy.

I'm not sure. I remember seeing something about it on their website when I first got my iPod (last year) so I'll see if I have got it and if not i'll download it. Thanks Lauren :)

Nope. It's only a mini 4bg, got it as a present from family last year. I think there has been this same problem with other models too, like the nano and possibly the shuffle, although I think that had a slightly different problem.

I've had my iPod for 2 and a bit years and never had a problem with it. The only downside is that is has a chrome back, so it's impossible to keep clean. Mine's been thrown and dropped and everything and it just keeps going. It hung once, but then...it's just like a computer...i rebooted it and that was that.

Nope. Not the faintest idea of why. I had a look at the forum on the Apple website and from what I could see only one other person has had it happen to them too and they could fix it by doing what I did.

That's exactly what it is. All players have problems but when iPods have them people love to say how shit they are and how much better their iRiver is. It's crap. Most of my friends have iPods and I don't think any of them have had problems that aren't their fault.
But i'd still prefer a Zen or an iRiver cause of radio/radio recording. And they're usually cheaper

My Zen still has issues. I was listening to it this morning and a deafening beeping sound came out again. Had to restart it

First of all, sorry for dragging up a thread that hasn't been active since 2006 :p

But I thought it was better than starting a new one. Maybe. I started this one anyway!

Anyhoo.

I have lost my iPod. No idea where it has gone. Have pulled my bedroom to pieces looking for it. Can't live without it. I talk it on walks, on the plane, in the car if I'm not the one driving, listen to it in bed if I am reading a book, listen to it while doing the ironing, etc, etc.

I guess I'll have to buy a new player of some sort over the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone uses something other than an iPod and if so, what do you use?

Not many people make MP3 players that will fit all of my music onto them, so I need something with at least 16GB space.

I was looking at the 'normal' iPod, which is the newer version of my old 30GB one, but I very much doubt that I will ever need 120GB of space. But on the other hand, the 16GB & 32GB ipod touch versions are more expensive, even though they look fun to use and all.

So...what do you guys reccommend?

I have one of the 80gb "classic" which is one model back from the current 120gb.

really you cant go past ipods, they are just the easiest to use. also the touches look pretty cool but ive only had a quick play with one and they are a little too fiddley for my liking

Colezy
03-04-2009, 09:49 PM
And with iPods - how am I meant to choose which colour?! :p

Even if I went for a classic one, there's still a colour choice!! haha

I think I am leaning towards another classic one..at least I know that it'll be AGES until I run out of space!

mattheal
03-04-2009, 09:52 PM

Maybe look at creative ones or something, I have an iPod and I refuse to believe no one has made something that's easier to use... It's a 30gb one from before they started calling them classics though, so maybe they've gotten better. That said it is really good still, I just expected more from the best mp3 player in the world

For what it's worth, I've got one of the iPod Touch ones, and it's pretty good. I had one problem with it, the headphone jack screwed up, but Apple replaces it free under warranty because it's too much / too hard to fix it.
I love it though, I use the internet on it, I listen to music (obviously), watch movies & shit. It's good.

It's got a wireless receiver thing (I know there's a name for it, I just forget) and as long as there is a wireless network connection around, you can use the internet :) pretty much like a laptop. We have a wireless internet connection at home so I use my iPod a lot at home, and then if I'm in the city and am near a wireless hot spot, I can use it there too. It's fun :)

Colezy
03-05-2009, 04:20 PM
And it's free? I had a play around with one in the Apple Shop this arvo but all of their staff were busy so I couldn't ask questions!

Also, how much room do the applications take up? Like games things? Aaannnd, what apps come with it?

Aaron
03-05-2009, 05:48 PM
Hey Nicole, the internet in the iPod is different to the internet on a phone, for example.

Phones connect directly to the internet through mobile phone towers - and you have to pay for mobile data on your plan.

The iPod, like a laptop, only connects to local wireless networks, not mobile phone towers. So if you have a wireless router at your house, and that router is connected to your home internet connection, then that's where your data comes through to get to your iPod. It's 'free' because it relies on you already having an internet connection at home.

The downside is that unlike a phone, you can't use the internet everywhere on your iPod. But if you set it up to access the wireless network at your friend's house, the McDonald's across the road, the coffee shop you go to in the morning, the uni, and the state library (for example) then you'll have access to the internet in most of the places you go. But not on the train, bus, etc.

Colezy
03-05-2009, 05:56 PM
Thanks guys - thought that would be the case.

I know that places like Maccas who have wireless hotspots and charge you for it, would still make you pay, but I just wanted to check and see if Apple would ask for a fee of some sort or if you did something similar to purchasing an iTunes card thingy.

Colezy

If I buy a song/video from iTunes using the iPod, can I get it off of the iPod and on to the computer?
