Hey guys, for a school project im doing a presentation on Monday. I chose it as it is a well written song with meaning. I was just wondering if anyone has come across any interveiws with chris about him writing the song. The only snippet i have is on a live recording where he starts to tell the story of how he wrote the song about the Dunblane Massacre, before being cut of by Trav. "Lets just play the fucking song", or sumthin along those lines. So if anyone could put me in the right direction it would be most appreciated.

This is what Chris had to say about the song on the lyrics page of the old website.
"Monday was written about the Dunblane massacre - the social worker who walked into the local primary school and gunned down 16 children and a teacher. What a senseless act. I just felt compelled to write a song about it."

i'm amazed at how surprised Kempos seemed by the revalation it's about the dunblane massacre... :eek:
i love this song for so many reasons though - i think Chris lyricised the sensitive subject matter brilliantly - and the guitar in it... - blows me away!

i know the lyrics, iv heard of the conection, but the actual music isnt realy a very sad soundign pice, is prety happy sounding actualy, as is the guitar solo.
and whats with forum members always trying 2 beat each other up?

alrighty. jsut out of interest (only just re re re registerd on thsi forum (third time) ) thats witht the TLE song next 2 every nes name? can it be changed?
it looks liek im stuck with whats on your radio, whcih is a bit dodge, thats my least fav of there songs :(

Wizard, may I suggest that for your project that you also research the Dunblane massacre to get a better understanding of what happened and in turn a better understanding of Monday.
I hope your project goes well, good luck with it!
Monday is one of my fave TLE songs so make sure you do it well! Let us know how you go.

Thanks 2 everyone 4 there help. Im pretty new to the forum but ive already noticed how helpful everyone is! Out of curiousity i researched it all a while back so then when the chance came up to do a presentation on a song we like i decided it would be a good one. Thanks 4 the advice Roll On. It's a sad subject to study but a story that must be told. I recomend every TLE listener do a bit of research as it gives the song new meaning and more depth than jus the great rock song it is.
Will report back on how it all goes! cheers.

i have a rather clear memory of hearing about the dunblane massacre back when it actually happened - it was before i'd heard of The Living End - i feel the song is a nice tribute to such a terrible event...

I was only six at the time but I still remember hearing it on the news. We'd all been out for a family trip mini golfing and it came on the radio.
Like Maria, I feel the song is a really nice tribute.

I don't remember it at all...which is odd because alot of those big news moments i remember vividly. I have no idea what rock I was hiding under. I would have been in year 7.

This is sorta/kinda off topic, but does anyone who's heard the old version of Monday (mine is from Falls '97) know what the original lyrics were in the bridge? It's not particularly important, but I'm just curious.
In the final album version it goes:
"Playing quietly, along came destiny, no I, I don't wanna play..."
in the old version, I know it starts with "I'm not supposed to be..", but past that I'm a bit confused. It's completely different lyrics though. Eeeenteresting.

hey guys told u id report bak and tell u how my presentation went so here i am! first of all, thanks a bunch 4 all your help... everyone! So did my presentation along with all the other peops in my class this morning. Hmm.. the first girl had michael jackson, so i was always gunna look good!
So played the songs on a power point (all themed in black, red and white) and had the lyrics and pics...etc. Then had 2 do a 5 minute speech on why i chose the song, what it was about, who wrote it and all that jazz.
Wasnt sure if my teacher would go 4 TLE but when i finished she commented that chris sounded very Australian. didnt knw if she was tryna b a smart ass but she went on 2 say its great to see an Aussie artist being proud of their roots and not singing with a fake american accent! (hmm... think she must b a closet rocker from way back!) but yah it all went 2 plan and im hoping a good mark will follow.
Yay... 2moz is my last day of school 4 the year + a week of exams. Un-Fucking-Real i say!
Once again (cuz u all deserve it) A big big big thank u! i knew u wuldnt let me down forumers!
