ok steph!

I have a question Melbourne people: where is kind of the most central type of place to live in melbourne for someone who relies on public transport to get around?

From my research, the kind of jobs I'll be looking for arent really going to be in any particular location...although more suburban than in the city, probably.

I want to live in St kilda area cos I like it there, but I dont know if thats really practical?

*I still dont really know if im actually moving there, I just like to fantasise.

My town!

Seriously, with both governments vowing to abolish Zone 3 fees for public transport you may as well live as far away from the city as possible to exploit the brand new election policy from whatever party gets elected into government

There is a giant pig that winks. I hope you remember me telling you that and that is what you are referring to.

I think I was talking about the giant lobster? I dont know, I cant remember! Whatever that thing was that we drove past!

Jawn
11-02-2006, 01:05 PM
we saw no such giant lobster. There is a giant lobster in Kingston SE which is in South Australia. The beach smells.

It be not the fisherpeople's fault that no fish were had. Nature was against us. Fish hate rain. they never play when it rains. They don't wanna get wet.

its not free its just that zone 3 turns into zone 2. its still gonna cost like 9 bucks to get to the city. A saving of 2 dollars. but it all counts!

I watched a nature program that had heaps of cute polar bears and emperor penguins.

Guys I need advice.

On the last night of school, we have our valedictory - it's basically the less-formal formal, where we get our Year 12 certificates etc. We all go to some fancy hotel, eat dinner etc etc. The tables are arranged with three families (one student, two parents) per table...

My two best friends and I have been best friends since Year 7, when I first went to their school. One of them, Shannon, has recently started going out with another of our friends, Nathan. Since then, she's been ditching me and the other girl, Sheree, more and more to spend time with Nathan. We're getting frustrated.

We had (obviously incorrectly) assumed that the three of us would sit together at the val - given that we've been best friends for EVER, Sheree and I had thought it would be a fitting end to spend the last night of our school careers together. Shannon had other ideas. She approached me and said that she was sitting with Nathan and would I like to join her? I asked her "what about Sheree? I don't want to leave her out." Shannon said "okay, get back to me."

I told Sheree what happened and she was pretty upset she'd been 'forgotten' - understandably, I thought! Sheree asked Shannon (pretending I hadn't passed on that Shannon wanted me at her table) if she'd sit with Sheree and I - the response was "Oh I already said I'd sit with Nathan, sorry. Don't make me choose, it's not fair to make me choose my friends over my boyfriend." etc etc etc.

So! Sheree and I are pretty pissed off - we're being ditched for a guy she's gone out with for two weeks when we kinda hoped we could have spent the last night with her ...

Are we wrong in being shitty? HELP!!!

KillingInTheNameOf
11-06-2006, 06:48 PM
You dont have to spend the ENTIRE night at the one table. Just walk around to hers and spike the bf's drink so he starts chuckin up and gets thrown out :p

Caity
11-06-2006, 07:10 PM
That's not the point Grumma - I was kinda hoping for a serious response to that ...

KillingInTheNameOf

-George-
11-06-2006, 07:17 PM

Or somehow stuff the system and manage to get all 4 on one table..?

KillingInTheNameOf
11-06-2006, 07:18 PM
Yeah thats odd.

Our school has tables of 10 I think

-George-
11-06-2006, 07:22 PM

11-06-2006, 07:22 PM
tell your friend with the boyfriend to go to hell. she'll be sitting with her boyfriend and therefore won't be left out at all. You can sit with the other girl and then nobody is left out, even if you arent sitting together. Its not like you wont see each other all night.

Friggin' hell. You lot completely missed the point. We're shitty because she obviously feels that he's more important than us, at least in this situation and didn't think that maybe we wanted to sit with her first. >_<

then, seriously, tell her to go to hell. she can sit with her pimply boyfriend all she likes, and you can sit with your other friend and not have to be in an awkward and embarassing situation, watching those other two make out all night long.

And they'll probably last for 2 months and then she'll come back running to you!

That's the thing - we can't really see them lasting very long, and don't you think she'd rather look back on the valedictory in twenty years and say she spent it with her best friends, rather than some guy she'll probably forget the name of?

Grumma, you seriously have no sensitive side whatsoever. Typical bloke.

Caity
11-06-2006, 08:55 PM
We have and her response is "don't make me choose, it's not fair" etc etc.

The thing that really shits me is that when I started going out with James, she emphasised that "friends come before boyfriends" - some hypocrite she is.

The thing that really shits me? She broke up with her previous boyfriend ONE WEEK before she started going out with this one, and already he's more important to her than her friends. The Dying Start
11-06-2006, 09:44 PM

HELP!!!

Yeah, it's wrong to be shitty. But it's a typical response. It doesn't matter how long someone has been dating...when you're in a relationship like that, be it only 2 weeks old or 10 years old, you want to spend time with that person. All your time, if only it were possible. Your hitched friend has given you warning and asked you to join them...so it's not like you've been ditched at the last minute or anything. If i was you, I would have straight away denied her invitation and found your third friend to sit with you and your forgotten mate. It's the valedictory dinner...everyone mingles at the end anyway...so you don't get to eat and listen to speaches with one of your friends...if they're really a friend you'll see them after school finishes anyway so there's no dramas. I have absolutely no doubt that you'd want to sit with James if he was at your school and you were dating for a week.

We have and her response is "don't make me choose, it's not fair" etc etc.

The thing that really shits me is that when I started going out with James, she emphasised that "friends come before boyfriends" - some hypocrite she is.

This is a Valedictory dinner...not your funeral. I didn't sit with any of my friends at my VD, they were all over the place. With their other friends, with their girlfriends. It doesn't matter...it's ONE NIGHT.

The thing that really shits me? She broke up with her previous boyfriend ONE WEEK before she started going out with this one, and already he's more important to her than her friends. Who's going to be there when she's upset and bawling her eyes out because they had a fight? HER FRIENDS. Gahhhhhhhhhh.

Well maybe if you're going to be so judgemental of her social choices, you should find another friend. If it's an issue to you, you shouldn't be picking up any pieces at all. You should be finding some new friends. So she caught a guy on the rebound...it happens all the time...especially with teenagers...I'm honestly not having a go at you, i'm really trying to just answer the questions and issues that you've raised, and i really think this has been blown way out of proportion.

Just let your friend sit with eher boyfriend and you sit with your other friend. As Golenn said, it's not the end of the wprld and it doesn't matter if she wants to spend some time with her boyfriend. Let her do that and everyone will still be paired up and will still have someone to be with. And if you get really bored you can always talk to your parents :p

Aaron
11-06-2006, 10:05 PM
Sorry to interrupt again, but I just noticed that I've been quoted in someone's signature. I've finally made it on the forums ^_^. Shucks, George :p

As far as school formals/dinners/whatever your crazy backward state calls them, it doesn't matter that much who you sit next to. You'll be taking photos and dancing and whatever with all your friends over the course of the night and if you have to talk to somone else at your table, what better time to get to know them better then the last time you'll see them ever again?

Rejecting advice - stupid or otherwise - is a bit dramatic. If you know what you want to hear, why ask? Sorry Caity. I hope you figure something out that lets you enjoy the night :)

All it pretty much does (that's only some of the code there - there's about 10 pages total), is check to see if people are entering or leaving a room and turn lights on/off accordingly. It also counts how many people are in each room. It also check if the alarm is on. If it is and people go through a door, the alarm goes off.

I had something like that, called 'Safe Drive Stay Alive', last year. They get emergency workers (from the policemen or fireman who arrive first, to nurses and family members) talking about an imaginary accident, and show video bits of how easily and quickly it can happen - one minute having a laugh, the next..bam. It was pretty shocking stuff.

Last night I drove back from my photography class (about 25 mins) with my dad. I'm really not used to our old shitty car - I'm learning in a brand new Ford Focus so it's all smooth in that.

What are you rehearsing for?

I did so much theatre when i was little. I miss it.

i'm in 2 plays for the local dramatic society

they're only one act each - but all quite fun

one of them i'm a bit of a moron (my character) my name is Patsy and i get to dress in cool clothes like i'd wear to a gig ('cept i would't 'cause i'd feel like a try-hard)

the other one is a silent movie - i'm the maid...
there are only 4 characters in this play - and no words at all by the main characters!

we have actions to do forwards, backwards, fast forwards... it's easier to do than i thought and it looks fantastic once the strobe is flickering - just like an old fashioned movie! :)

the plays start next week on Friday!

Awesome. I haven't acted since i was 15, but i really miss it. Hah i think the highlight was playing a Smurf when i was 5.

whenever our scool or whatever used to put on plays i'd generally be the choir lead or something - i never actually had any roles to play until i joined the dramatic society (abbreviated to MADS - appropriately enough) even then i'd get stuck with all the singing bits...

i think bing a smurf would be fun - but blue is so not my colour!

they used to call my dad Pappa Smurf when he worked at the high school - hehe - i'd forgotten about that!

I can't sing at all. Or dance.

There is a video of the Smurf play, and we are all singing and dancing to a song about not wanting to go to school why papa smurf was asking why not, and you can hear my dad laughing his ass off while filming.

I got RSI from cross stitching, so you probably could!

*M!
11-09-2006, 02:02 PM
haha - i don't think my envelope stuffing was as intense as your cross stitching though Jessii - those things are amazing!

i'm now making a website - i'm using photoshop to do a mockup - it's frustratingly fun!

Has anybody heard of a band - The Runaway Boys - that are going around now? Isn't that what TLE used to be called?

They're playing tomorrow night with None The Wise.

I've seen them around myspace heaps and read a few ads in the local streetpress, I've never heard their music though.

I can't believe how easy my interview was, the two girls were really nice and I find out tomorrow if I've got the job. Fingers crossed!

some people play with long fingernails... oh the conundrum!

*M!
11-09-2006, 03:58 PM
yeah - one hand long one hand short Jawn...

i can't press the strings properly if that hand is long...

plus my nails are looking manky anyway - and i can't give good massages if they're long...

there is a multitude of reasons!

I wanna tell you all a joke.

An old Italian man lived alone in the coutnry. He wanted to dig his tomato garden, but it was very hard work as the ground was very hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament.
"Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty badly because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here, my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me.
Love, Dad."
A few days later, he received a letter from his son.
"Dear Dad,
Don't dig up that garden - that's where I buried the bodies.
Love, Vinnie."
At 4am the next morning, the FBI and local policemen arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologised to the old man and left. That same day, the old man received another letter from his son.
"Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love, Vinnie."

Did you like it?

I heard one like that a while ago about a guy speeding. But I won't tell it cos I don't remember it properly and I'll most likely screw it up something awful.

The hiccups are gone now, hooray!
The hiccups are gone now, hooray!
The hiccups are gone now, hooray!

You know a good way to get rid of them? If you're with someone and they keep hiccuping, ask them to try and anticipate the next hiccup and tell you when they're going to do it again. Because they're trying to grab a breath to tell you when they're hiccuping, it cancels out the odd breathing that causes hiccuping in the first place :)

Hooray for seeing Martin Jakey! Say hello for us okay?

I was writing out instructions for him the other night on which tube lines he needs and whatnot. He was shocked and appalled to find out that the tube does not run 24hours, even at weekends. Just another fantastic reason to live in London everyone...

doesn't the tilt train go to cairns?

also, I guess you can blame the decline of the countrylink trains on the decrease of plane prices.

Yeah but I meant we don't have trains as public transport. We have them for long distance journeys or cane.

That the one with a 45 degree angled roof? I think I've been on that. Or is that in the Blue Mountains? I have no idea ...
The one in the Blue Mountains tilts forward, as it goes down a steep slope. The one in Cairns tilts side-to-side to enable it to go around corners fast, like a motorcyclist would do. The latter are referred to as tilt trains, the former as funicular railways.
