I know that this poll may be a waste, but it will be indeed very interesting to see what people think will be Single Number 3.

For me, its a toss up between Kid and Waiting For The Silence.

You're wrong :p

Do you know?
premature ejaculation!!!

Big J.G
10-08-2008, 07:37 PM
I don't think there are any plans for it as of yet.

Unless there was that conversation with Rae that revieled something.

And does it matter if I'm wrong? If people actually know what the next single is then they should stay out of this poll all together.

Probly not gonna be it, but you never know.

paulvroc

haha, jonnno
it'll be Hey Hey obviously, with Kid 4th :)
that seems to just...fit for me. heavy 3rd single, 4th ballad

Big J.G
10-08-2008, 09:13 PM
Rae has a dislike to Hey Hey, but that song would be a perfect 3rd.

Waiting For The Silence is like the Nothing Lasts Forever of White Noise, easily the best song on the album, but if it was a single, it wouldn't do so well.

paulvroc
10-08-2008, 09:21 PM
you really think nothing lasts forever was the best song on SoE?
til the end, wake up, one step behind...i liked them all better
waiting for the silence may well be the best on white noise...but its also better than nothing lasts forever, in my opinion.
it wouldn't work as a single though, i'll agree

does Rae dislike it enough to completely throw it out, single-wise?

strahanie

fair enough
its up there for me...and i respect how well its written, til the end is a beautifully crafted song as well, and i just sorta like its sound better...
but it doesn't have the impact and emotion of wake up, or the classic outlaw theme in one step behind either :p

nice to see that each song has been picked at least once! (well...except for Sum of Us but we all know why it's not there).
I voted for HHD, without any doubt.
Make the Call is also great, but I think it's too heavy for radio etc...

Raise The Alarm is an epic no-brainer for a single despite the theme... It's one of TLE' greatest songs - EVER.

I voted Loaded Gun, and I'm hoping it'll be either Loaded Gun, Raise The Alarm, or Make The Call. They're all great. 21st Century would surprise me as a single choice, even though it is very straightforward and could easily be a single - I just think that in terms of BETTER songs to release as singles, there are easily better choices for the coveted #3 (and... maybe, #4?).

They didn't play 21st Century on the White Noise tour, mind you - only when they were touring as the Longnecks. Would love to hear it live.

Big J.G

I wouldn't say so, considering Loaded Gun was played at every show as well, and so was Raise The Alarm (i think).

I wouldn't say so, considering Loaded Gun was played at every show as well, and so was Raise The Alarm (i think).
I think they've played these at every gig since AC/DC Lane (with the exception of Bigpond Monday Night Live):

How Do We Know (already part of the White Noise single)
Raise The Alarm
White Noise
Moment In The Sun
Make The Call
Loaded Gun

So out of those six that've been played consistently and constantly, there's three remaining songs:

Raise The Alarm
Make The Call
Loaded Gun

If Single #3 isn't one of those songs, I'll be very surprised. I'll even give away my spare copy of Modern Artillery with the bonus DVD to someone if it isn't one of those songs!

I've just had a feeling that it'll be Waiting For the Silence. It sounds like a single, and reminds me of Nothing Lasts Forever.

I don't think it'll be as commercially succusful as other singles, but it'll draw people in before it's different for TLE. It's almost a ballad.

Make The Call.

Its that rocknroll track radio has been looking for

Colezy
11-05-2008, 10:15 PM
If the 3rd single is still going to be what I've told, then its going to suck sales/promotion wise, I feel.

Big J.G
11-05-2008, 10:33 PM
So I guess that was TLE's plan.

Get White Noise milked the shit out of until it does people's heads in and just let the other singles go where they may, it wont matter if it didn't sell a thing.

And if the 3rd single is what I've been suspecting it to be by connecting the dots. Then, I agree, it won't be promoted much.

I voted for Hey Hey, but I'm skeptical whether or not it'll be single #3. I would be mildly disappointed with Raise The Alarm, not a bad song, just probably my least favorite off the album.

I'd love to see Sum Of Us be released, but it's doubtful.

Exactamundo. That, or Raise The Alarm... both could tear the radio another rear end.

*Agreed also.

I can't see there being much of a kick off with Kid or WFTS; which got my decision down to either Hey Hey, RTA, or MTC- contrast in sound after MITS.

Still unsure, could go RTA or MTC in my mind; but I'd be happy with either tbh.

Deadcat Kaye

I don't care when the next single is released...

I want any of these

Raise The Alarm
Loaded Gun
How Do We Know
Make The Call (though highly doubt it)
21st Century (more doubt)

MITS and WN are great songs, but not as "rock-y" as some other songs on the album.

Next song should be what the albums about...ROCK

i'll take whatever they give, but i would REALLY love to start hearing 'make the call' 'raise the alarm' or 'loaded gun'.

concidering the political-ness of both loaded gun and raise the alarm and the too-heavy-for-commercial-radio rock of make the call- i doubt they'll make the airwaves.

which raises the question- why say it's a ballsy album if you can't demonstrate it in your singles? curiosity of the buyer, perhaps?

(oh, i vote raise the alarm)

dylanos
11-13-2008, 11:52 AM
I don't think it will matter if it is radio friendly or not cause radio just won't play it...they only support first singles unless you're pink or the veronicas that get all their singles supported... Therefore, why not go for a rocky heavy one, at least for fan's sake! Bring on Make the call!!! If not, raise the alarm. Film clip wise, 21st century has a strong subject matter and would convert well....

On the heavy note, there are lots and lots of heavier songs around than any of these that still make it to radio. JJJ will give it a spin. Who cares about Nova, they are a horrible station and don't care at all about artists, they are worse than austereo networks.

I agree with the comment about a rock song...that's what they were saying all along about the album being their heaviest and rockiest...so show the people that it is! The first 2 singles have been fairly light. Time to rock.

I really don't think it would make a difference whether or not Rae likes the song. She's smart enough to understand what works and what doesn't work for the boys, and if she personally doesn't like HHD but can see that it would be a good radio single, i'm sure that it would be considered for release as much as any of the other songs on White Noise.

If it were Raise The Alarm, they'd have played it off a promo single which would have been distributed - which we'd probably be aware of by now if it were the case. Kev's in the loop with promo singles. It's possible that it is the next single and forthcoming to tie in with their slot on BDO and other festival shows, but it seems a bit too soon and I figure they'd be holding back until at least March-ish because that's when the White Noise re-release with the bonus disc is out, too. But if it's RTA, then it's excellent news. :)

Moment In The Sun was announced in September..thats 2 months after white noise.

And raise the alarm is announced in nearly 3 months after moment in the sun.

Moment In The Sun was announced in September..thats 2 months after white noise.
That may be the case, but let's look at the actual release timeline:

White Noise Single - July 5th
White Noise Album - July 19th
Moment In The Sun Single - October 25th

In between the single releases, there was a gap of about three months, give or take a week or two. If RTA has been released to radio during the Christmas / New Year week (essentially as of Monday, December 22nd), then we could possibly see a single release towards the end of January, or (more likely, if at all) during February. (EDIT: This is all based around the fact that singles are usually released to radio a month or so before their physical / digital release.)

Big J.G
12-22-2008, 10:11 PM
but look at it.....january is ONE MONTH away. And the time between release and announcement is a month apart.

Well I've heard different (regarding which song it'll be) but I really hope it's not that. I won't be happy..it's an odd choice. And no, I wont be telling you what it is..although some people already know about it too.

Big J.G

You sir are just too funny. (referring to Nik. not Nic!)

I picture Raise the Alarm to be a Prisoner sort of video clip (the aus version).

Loaded Gun (if that was the song you're reffering too), I picture that to be a mix of all torn down with a tabloid magazine look.

Now thats a good combination!

im guna go out on a limb here nd say make the call for 3rd if not possible 4th single.
it would take many 40yr olds back to the days wen acdc ruled the radio.
my dad being one of those 40yr olds heard make the call nd went "its about fucking time!" the volume only went up from there.
since this fateful day he has been basically hooked.

moral of the story- bit of a marketing ploy to get teh album of the platinum line the everyone keeps bitching about

What ever song they release a single is good enough for me. Even if they release 21st Century, which at the moment is my least favourite song on the album other than white noise.

Agreed! Hence my frustration when bands bring out digital only releases.. It's just a pain in the ass really.. and the feeling of walking out of a store and rushing home to throw on the new TLE release is pure bliss! Not to mention reading the insert over and over... and over.

If Raise The Alarm does get a physical release as a single - I know it's been said that we're getting a different version of Faith as the b-side, but... can we PLEASE get any of the digitally released b-sides on physical singles at some point in the future?

I'm talking about:
- CIA
- She's Calling Out
- Beware The Moon
- Hopeless (Demo)

The MITS single should've had CIA or She's Calling Out as the third track, in my opinion - and I understand that there are licensing issues with iTunes / Bigpond and exclusivity commitments that will last for a certain period of time, but these tracks should be made available to the public that are casual fans of The Living End, but not so to the level that they will trawl iTunes and Bigpond Music and god knows wherever else to collect all the b-sides. It's incentive to buy the physical single, and the songs simply deserve the wider exposure.

The physical MITS single had New Frontier and probably could have used an extra track as added value for buyers. A third track wouldn't really affect the cost of the single by that much, surely? The White Noise single had three tracks, though in truth, one of them was How Do We Know - but that was before the album was released, which is understandable and part of forward promoting (not to mention that HDWK was getting heavy play on Triple J and was "essentially" a radio-only single).

Beware The Moon is an interesting one in that... it was given away as a free download for a while, and now it's available as a digital bonus track on the iTunes MITS single - yet most people who want it already have it from the free download and thus, I can't imagine that too many people are paying the $1.69 to buy it as a single track.

What do you all think?

I reckon digital downloads are more accessible than physical singles these days... Singles are just a small rack, even in big places like jb hifi... I've never even seen any of the new singles... I haven't looked all that hard though, I just flick through the rack occasionally...
Not meaning to shut you down or anything, but I don't think physical singles are really that popular these days...

I hate digital downloads/releases.

Anyway. I had a fucked up dream last night that I found RTA on vinyl.

Just decided to join the forum today, and glad I did! i reckon raise the alarm will be a kickass single (hopefully doing better than MITS).

Does anyone have a release date? also, rats should be the b-side for sure! that song was the highlight of the longnecks gigs for me.

Raise the Alarm is already doing better than MITS. It's already in the Australian Singles chart at number 20.

MITS did OK in the Physical Singles part. It went to Number 34 and currently still sits there at number 97 (look at the ARIA report on Pandora). But as for digital downloads, it never charted. And the Singles Chart, it only lasted in there for 1 week in which was at number 100.

White Noise got the majority of its buys from digital downloads. On iTunes, the song is kicking arse. MITS however its TLE's 6th most bought song. Raise the Alarm is at Number 2. Pretty good.

And also, Rats is too good for a Bside. Let Cheney do what he wants with it and let them release it on the next album.
