US Kath & Kim

So the US version of Kath & Kim starts in America tomorrow, and is airing on Aussie TV on Sunday night. Personally, I'm looking forward to it because from the promos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE-FepzzYQA) I've seen, it's pretty terrible and even the Amercians are saying it's close to the worst sitcom ever (http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story/0,26278,24467959-10229,00.html).

I can't wait for the outrage and letters to the 50/50 column in the Herald Sun to begin - generally with the phrase "how dare they..." popping up once or twice. Should be a lot more funny than the show. I love it how Aussies get so outraged over nothing.

So if any of the Americans on here have seen it - what did you think? And will any of the Aussies on here be watching it?

Couples, The Office, Ab Fab - the US screwed those, so I was surely never gonna be a shock that they'd screw up Kath and Kim.

I never really understood why they'd wanna bother with it anyway.
I dont love KnK, but I dont miiind it either. I just never thought it was spectacular enough to try and convert.

I don't like it at all when other countries try to take on a TV show...especially comedy. Like Craigels said, we all have a different sense of humour and it can't transfer easily. I hated what America did to The Office! The English version was brilliant though.

Actually as a stand alone show, I didn't think the american version of The Office was all that bad. But it pales in comparison to the UK version.

I'm with you May - I have no idea why the bothered making an American version of KnK either. There are way too many Australian-isms in it for it to transfer sucessfully to an Aussie format. And I think that's the problem they have now - all the funny stuff with the stuff they've had to take out because it is not relevant to Americans.

It seems completely stupid to me. Kath and Kim is full of Australianisms so I have no idea how the hell they could work around that and still making it funny.

The australian kath and kim got unfunny for me after the first season anyway. There's only so far those kind of jokes will go.

The U.S office actually gets heaps better after they stopped copying the U.K version.

When I heard it was a re-make of the Australian show, I immediately told myself that I'm not going to watch it. The Americans need more original stuff then ripping other shit off. I hope it gets cancelled. :)
