Chris Cheney from TLE - Charity Event, December 14th...
The Living End's own Chris Cheney is participating in a charity event on December 14 at the Key Club in Los Angeles with an all star line up. It WILL sell out!
LOS ANGELES, November 15, 2006 ― With the holiday season upon us, the time is ripe for giving and the punk rock community is doing its share. A who’s who of punk rockers have come together for the “2006 Rock to Roll Holiday Bash,” a benefit concert for the non-profit organization Wheels for Humanity (WFH), to take place Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Key Club, Hollywood. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, Nov. 18 for $15 via Ticketmaster and will be $17 at the door. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to this charitable group that refurbishes, distributes and individually fits donated wheelchairs to people with disabilities throughout the world.
Joe Sib, co-owner of SideOneDummy Records and founder of Complete Control Radio, is spearheading this special evening and didn’t waste any time calling upon friends to help raise funds and awareness for WFH. The Bronx, The Riverboat Gamblers and Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music) backed by members of Flogging Molly are scheduled to perform as well as a special version of Punk Rock Karaoke (comprised of NOFX’s Eric Melvin, Bad Religion/ Circle Jerk’s Greg Hetson, Agent Orange/ The Adolescents’ Steve Soto, and Social Distortion/ Agent Orange’s Derek O’Brien) with vocal performances by a rotating cast including Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Jim Lindberg of Pennywise, Chris Cheney of The Living End, and Trever Keith formerly of Face to Face, now of Kid Stardust. Against Me! will close out the night.
Sib, was immediately attracted to WFH’s immediacy and simplicity. “It has nothing to do with religion, race or ethnicity and it doesn’t matter if you are republican, democrat or apolitical,” he explains. “We are giving the gift of mobility to people who have never experienced it in their entire lives by simply giving them wheelchairs that otherwise would’ve end up in a landfill. I’m not a patient person, I don’t like to wait for things and with WFH there’s no wait or middle man.” The small amount needed to make a big difference appealed to Sib as well. “A lot of charities need large contributions to really make a difference but with WFH it only takes $150 – that is a number everyone can get their head around,” Sib says.
All proceeds from the concert will go directly to WFH and all the musicians have volunteered their time. In addition, there will be ways to make additional donations at the event and concert goers will be able to enter raffles for prize packs put together by Volcom and Epitaph Records.
Since 1996, Wheels for Humanity has helped more than 31,000 people in more than 61 countries gain increased mobility and dignity.
