Hi guys, i've come to the site for some kind of urgent help :)

I've basically written up a discography of The Living End's work on Wikipedia. Viewed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Living_End_discography

A couple of days ago i nominated it to be Featured, so it would be listed as one of the best articles on the site.

Though i have struck a roadblock. For it to be featured i need the names of directors of all the Living End's music videos. This also needs to be sourced. Sooo.. this is where you crazy nut Living End fans (that's a good thing!) come into the equation!

So, what's needed:
- Liner notes from singles, albums, video albums, featuring the mv's - they should have the director.
- Any news articles that may advertise/feature the mv and its director.
- Anything else you can get ahold of.

We need sources, but if you know of the top of your head, it would be a start.

Any help will be much appreciated! :)

Thankyou.

and you've only one version of WGSU and POS listed - you might want to put both down, or at least recognise which version is listed.

aaaannnndd, your sources contradict who you've put for the two 2nd Solution clips.

and and and in 2007 the Australian Directors Guild nominated Morgan Christie for best director of NLF (well, "Nothing Else Lasts Forever" :p) ...might want to look into that one too.

and, Sarah-Jane Woulahan looks like she was joint director and producer with Sean Gilligan on both WOYR and Wake Up...

*sigh* this is quite addictive, but I do wonder why people can't google/youtube for themselves...

Mark Kohr seems to be the man for the colourful WGSU clip, I recall TLE saying they were looking forward to working with that guy alot, wand waiting 6 months to do it while they released the red one with news articles just to release in aus to take up some time.

The company who did WOYR and Wake Up was called Squareyes films or something along those lines.

*edit* and it appears you already knew that. :p

Interesting stuff, I've never really paid much attention to this stuff.

Thankyou so much for your replies.

Alright, the main problem is, MVDbase (http://www.mvdbase.com/artist.php?last=Living%20End&first=the) is not accepted by WP as reliable, because it's basically some amatuer adding what he knows, so yea i have to find new references for those.. 7.. clips.

I've added Morgan Christie, that was a nice find.

And trust me, i have spent hours and hours searching for these. I have exams coming up and don't really think i should be bothering with this, but this is all i need to do, otherwise we have to wait another few months, which is a waste.

Okay, so i've added Borghesi as well.

.. and you say POS and WGSU have other versions? I must look this up.

Thankyou.

edit

Does anyone have any singles or compilation albums with Music Videos on them? I don't think they've ever done that, but its worth asking.

Why does this site log me out every 5 minutes? Strange.

edit 2

I knew there'd have to be something!

POS & WGSU both had a US release video too, yes.

There were even two Second Solution clips, but one was basically just an edit of the other!

I find the US WGSU kinda creepy for some reason

at least, I think it was the US one. I cant remember which one was which. I liked the newspaper one, because some of the stories were actually funny (yes I am that sad, I paused and read every 'article') hah

Yes they are incorrect. But no reliable source has announced the new certifications, one that i can find anyway. It's just the way wiki works.

Still need those directors, need someone with the DVD!!

Yeh checking the credits would be my first bet but I get the feeling the credits would have more to do with the doco then the film clips.

Here's (http://www.freewebs.com/tabmagazine/download_video.htm) some more info/names

I Can't Give You What I Haven't Got
Directed by; Jason Tutty
This video was a lot of fun to make. J.T, the man behind the camera, who also put together our DVD, is a very funny man with a huge amount of energy. We had a great cast who played their parts perfectly. My favourite bit would have to be the suits shamelessly rocking out, attempting to show us how they think our song should sound. The clip is full of little subtleties and every time you watch it you notice something new. If you look closely, you'll notice that the guy playing the part of the "Producer" is a good friend of ours, Adam Cole, from the band Bugdust. He was chosen for his fantastic facial hair.

Tabloid Magainze
Directed By Todd Seldrick
We shot this clip in Sydney with a guy called Todd Sheldrick on a day off during the Modern Artillery tour last year. The idea was to get lots of different shots with interesting shapes and angles and cut them together. I don't think there's a shot that lasts more than a couple of seconds which makes it exciting to watch. I really liked the split screen, vibration effects and the shot looking down the neck of Scotty's bass is a beauty. My Grandma's old typewriter also makes an appearance, she gave it to me years ago and that's the first and, most probably, the last time I'll ever use it! It may have been superseded by Mac's and PC's but it looked so cool, we had to use it.

Who's Gonna Save Us? (Australian Version)
The footage in this clip was taken from Splendour In The Grass 03. We also used a handful of songs from the same gig on a bonus live DVD which was released with Modern Artillery. I remember feeling incredibly nervous that night, not only were there 10 - 15,000 people in front of us but everywhere you looked there was a video camera staring back at you. Nerves aside though, I liked the way this video turned out, it's like reading a paper and watching a gig at the same time. Now there's a concept!

One Said To The Other
Directed by Morgan Evans
Andys video debut. We wanted this video to have a bit of everything in it. Studio, Live and a story line. The studio shots were done at Birdland when we recorded the One Said ep.
The bedroom shots were done in the same place as the save the day video and the girl in the clip is Chris' girlfriend Emma.
The storyline is quite loose but its basically about a girl who is quite cheap and a bit of a flirt and the chorus is a conversation between two guys about her. A kind of "dont worry about her, shes not worth it" type thing.
The shots of us playing in the bedroom were performed and filmed at half speed so when they were back to normal speed it gives it a jerky aggitated feel.
Originally when we saw it back we thought it needed more contrast between sections so we got a red wash put over the playing parts, the studio shots made black and white and the rest left clean.

Dirty Man
Directed by ???
We were scheduled to make a film clip for this song that involved storyline and some kind of shoot until Chris was involved in an accident and bed ridden so what we have for this song is basically something that is thrown together from archive footage of us live. For all you trainspotters out there, Morgan, the guy who put this one together, stars in our first Prisoner clip. He is one of the people singing the lyrics of the song into the camera at the start of the song.

Roll On
Directed by Mark Hartley
Although the song is based on an actual event which was quite a serious issue, we wanted the video to have a fun element to it as well.
We wanted to show the workers and corporate bosses battling it out in a way that wasnt just shots of picket lines and angry scenes.
So being the Who fans we are , the idea of them settling the issue over a game of pinball seemed appealing if not a little bizarre. After all this is a music video and that means no set rules.
this would be intercut with us performing the song to camera for a bit of contrast and to spare us from doing anymore acting than neccessary .
One of the cool things for us is that one of the guys who played a bodyguard in the clip played the standoff man in the Castle, "I'm here to deliver a message Mr. Kerrigan"
Being big fans of the movie it was cool to have him in our clip and he was quite a character, not nearly as scary as he looks. .We also had ????? who was in copshop and tons of other Aussie TV shows in the 70's and 80's .
We used three locations for the clip. We filmed the dockyard scenes at yep, you guessed it, the old docklands area in Melbourne.
I seem to remember getting there at stupid o'clock in the morning and it being cold and miserable but thats melbourne.
The band shots were done in a nightclub in Balaclava and the shots in the car were done.......somewhere else??
Trav especially liked the car shots as it was his Ford Galaxy that was used.

Pictures In The Mirror
Directed by Mark Hartley
This is a bit of a favorite for a lot of people. I think its the simplicity factor that is appealing.
The idea was simple. we wanted it to look like "Smash it up" by the Damned or "Going Underground " by the Jam.
Both of these clips feature the bands in stark white rooms just performing the song. We did want to have big mirrors and shoot the different angles and reflections they created but it didnt happen unfortunately. We decided to go with the uniformity of black suits just to make the contrast stronger.
The other thing we wanted was for it to have the split screen pop artiness to it cause the song has a bit of a Jam, Who type feel.
The solo section features a warped kind of effect which was shot through a tank of water attatched to front of camera.
I am not too keen on the vespas at the end but it is only a small part of the clip. to me its a tad cliched to have moddish suits and vespas.
i do recall ending up in a head on chicken type dual with trav which resulted in me almost having a face to face introduction to the wall.
Hey what can i say i didnt want to damage the bike!! no harm done.
It was a singe day shoot which i much prefer.

West End Riot
This was one of my favorite videos to do because..
A. Because we got to work with the Don Letts who did all the Clash videos and was as a DJ at the 100 club. He is credited with introducing Reggae to the punks. He also played in Big Audio Dynamite.
B. We got to shoot it in London while we were on tour.
It was a long day beginning with the scene on the bridge where we are playing and trying to get a reaction from all the people on their way to work.
This was quite weird because Don wanted us to get right up into their faces, None of the people seemed impressed or amused in the slightest.
The shot i like the best is the one where we are in the back of the cab cause it reminds me of a Madness type clip.
We were in piccadilly square in the back of the cab circling the roundabout for what seemed like hours.
We went to about 5 different locations that day. The most bizarre being the top of a double decker bus.
Scott was freaked out by the thousands of pigeons in Trafalgar square. He has somewhat of a bird phobia!

All Torn Down
Directed by, Jason Tutty
This clip was made by our good friend Jt who has made a number of others. The thing I like about this one is that it showcases Melbourne. Shooting the location stuff was was a bit funny because it meant that we had to stand in some unlikely places and play our instruments. Wierd looks from passers by were not a stray. This was the first time we ever used a blue screen to film in front of so it was good to see how the shots could be layered. I particularly remember it being characteristically cold in Melbourne while we were cruising around the city for shots.

Prisoner Of Society (USA Version)
Directed by ????
This was the first video that we ever made with Americans. It seemed a little wierd to us to be shooting a second video for a song but the prospectheld a little excitement too. The concept made sence, playing Prisoner Of Society in a 'prison' cell with kids outside trying to hear. The shoot was definatley more full on than any other we had experienced. I remember being quite blown away by the level of work that went into this. It was a massive crew that worked on the clip and the set that was built in the studio was of the scale of a small game show. The one event that stands out to me most about the making of the clip occurred while shooting the end section of the song where there appears to be some kind of food fight happening. It was real food that was used; mashed potato, baked beans among other things. I have a really weak stomach and the smell of these foods after many takes began to make my stomach turn to the point where in of the takes I was vomiting while falling to the ground after having slipped on an inch of mouldy food. Lovely.

Save The Day
Directed by Joel Noble
I think this video was our first and last foray into Pyrotechnics! For some reason we agreed to have a circle of fire surrounding us in the last chorus.
It took a long time to get it to work properly because it either burnt too quick or too slow. The only thing more spinal tap would've been if we'd blown ourselves up.
we filmed this in a studio in port melbourne where they constructed a workshop for us to perform in.
I dont remember too much about the filming of this one. Cant have been too painful in that case. i do remember that the fan behind trav wasnt powered but had to be spun by hand for each shot.
the idea was just to have us playing the song in a rehearsal room/ workshop and to randomly intercut images of troops and combat. I think we should have made those shots more prominant in recognition of the job those men did and the courage they had. Lest We Forget..

And cos it didn't fit...

Prisoner Of Society
Directed by, Jason Tutty
We basically just recorded this song quickly and might i add cheaply. The clip was done the same way.
We never expected the song or the clip to get the attention they got. They were done on a shoe string budget, I think gives them a raw charm.
The idea of this clip in a nutshell was to have a bunch of kids ranting about societys shortcomings and a current affair type show.
We played three parts each; Scott and I pretended to be cameramen secretly filming the activities and Trav played reporter Trav Powers.
Secondly we played a shady bunch of pimp like characters and thirdly ouselves performing at the club.
We filmed the performing shots at revolver nightclub and the outside shots were done around fitzroy.
We used our own cars for the chase scenes, my old 77 Kingswood and scotts 1st car which was a 1984 toyota corola.
When we filmed the convenience store scenes that they asked us to leave. I'm not sure if was the filming without permission, throwing food or the hideous costumes?
