Ok people I am reporting on this past mondays gig of The Living End performing at The TLA in philadelphia. They opened up the live set with Til the End. Now for me it is my favorite song off State Of Emergency and I am very excited to actually get to see it live and in person. But I wont lie, maybe a minute into the song as I just danced about close to front row center, I began to look around and noticed how the crowd was not dancing , was not jumping, they were not doing a single thing. I thought ok maybe they not into this song, but as time went by and songs went by, the crowd remained the same. As for me I rocked out the whole show and had fun, shit it is the living end, they are my favorite band in the world and seeing them live for me is a present because I know it will be a very long time til I see them live again in my city and after this past show I dont even know if they will ever want to come back. The crowd just sucked. Besides myself there was maybe 10 others spread threw the whole show who were dancing and singing along to every song just like me. It was wierd because everytime I looked up stage at chris , scott, and andy during any song they seemed to notice that i was just one of the few who were there rocking out for them. They played the same veniue maybe 2 mounths ago and the crowd was so different, the crowd was jumping then all into the show, but this show, the philadelphia fans really sucked.
as for songs they played besides Til the end, they played the normal live stuff like, Roll On, E-boggie,SEcound Soultion, Prisoner of Society, All Torn down,Who's Gonna Save Us, and west end Riot.
It was good to hear, Uncle Harry as a crowd request, Into the Red was a Treat. Nothing Last Forever was good to hear, and I was real sad they did not play Hold Up like last show, but they did play We Want More again.
All I can say about this show is this much, as for me I had the Time of my life because I went to see the band I loved, but I just wish that the other fans who went to see them 2 did not just stand there and show no emotion at all all show.
p.s.
If you were at this show please message me at kyryluk0603 on aol messenger.

That's a dissapointment about the crowd but i'm glad you had a killer time!
Good to see that you enjoyed the show even though the rest of the crowd wasn't that into it.
Were there many people there?

Shame about the crowd....They will be changing their tune once The Living End boys take over the world!!!!!!! mUahahahahah
But yeah, they have had bad crowds before (watch the FHOI DVD if you havent) but im sure they wouldnt worry too much. How long did they play for? And the main thing is that you had one of the best nights of your life. And so did those other few.

I was at this show too. I didn't get a chance to really observe the crowd, because I lucked out to rock out in the front row. You probably saw me? ha. I didn't think it seemed too crazy though. I wasn't getting rammed into the barrier at all, not that I'm conplaining, but it does suck when you feel you're the only one really give the band what they want to feel back.
I felt like you, that they noticed the couple people that were going crazy. I drove close to 3 hours, and I really expect more people to be rocking out, that were from Philly especially considering they just played there a couple months ago, but I couldn't make it to that show.
The next night they played in DC and I felt like it was more intense, at least for their songs off the s/t. I wish people got into their new stuff, SOE is my fav so far.
It definitely freaks me out when they don't get an intense reaction. It costs them a lot of money for them to come out to the states, and then people are like 'i don't want them to get any bigger.' I'm like, they're not big AT ALL. It wouldn't be bad if they could sell out a club before the night of the show.

Yeah, man. I felt so bad when they were talking about that show they played with the Vandals. I think it mentioned ones at the warped tour too, I mean to come from Austrailia and be HUGE, then virtually unknown over here, especially after all these years, it's gotta be a downer. Hopefully the fans that are like us overhear make it worth it for them.
But yeah, definitely one of the best nights of my life! soooo worth 3 hours of driving. next east coast tour I plan on doing again, maybe even venturing to NYC or Jersey.

I really didn't think the crowd was all that bad, although there definitely wasn't as big a turnout as in August. Still, I was right in front of Chris, singing my heart out with every song. I went mental when they started with "Carry Me Home".
I definitely noticed the band singling out all the fans that were especially into the show, myself included. It's so nice to have that connection with one of my favorite bands, but at the same time, it makes me sad that they're nowhere as big in the US as they are in Australia.
i haven't seen a good TLE mosh in about 5 years. BDO in melbourne when Chris came back from his injuries was probably the last mosh i really enjoyed with the TLE.
Maybe they were rocking out in their own little way.
I get tired of people telling me I'm a stiff because I don't jump up and down, push and shove, or sing along loudly. However, I'm still enjoying every moment there.

Im sure that since they joined with adeline records and the facct they actually got Wake Up on the MTV site is a sign that they are making progress.
If we just give it time, and the more they are promoted the better they will get recognised. i think some problems would be the fact that because they arent that massive say such as green day or say the red hot chili peppers or something, people would rather like to be "cool" and follow the crowd.
i bet b/c they signed with adeline, there are alot more fans, as people would probably think oh wow green day must like them. and b/c i like green day i must like them to..That sorta thing if you know what i mean. some people dont have the guts to say they like something diffrent

Yeah, I completely agree with the fact that because they're not at that 'trendy' level, where it's the cool thing to listen too. Honestly though, as much as I want them to be greatly successful, I don't want them to be some fad. I don't think they want to be either. Green Day is huge and had massive success with most of their major releases except for maybe Warning, but that's a rarity that a band can come back with that kind of force. I'd like them to a heavy core following, which I guess is growing. Like a band like Rancid or something, ya know?
I would think the fact that they're signed to Billiejoe's label would really help. I know I get into bands from listening to other bands. I didn't notice it at the two shows I went to though. Everyone I talked to had been listening to them a good while, and then brought their friends to check them out. It's evident through the internet though that they're making progess. They seem to do pretty well on the west coast too.

yeah i was just using green day as an example, and the fact tle got signed on thier records...Its good to hear tho that alot of people were into them. AAnd lets face it, the aussie music industry is smaller than that of america and also over here any bands from where ever get on here whereas in america/uk its a harder place to break onto with all the compitition.
They will make it, im sure of it, and when they do, they and the rest of australia will be happy little vegimites

I've seen them in San Diego, Anaheim, LA and SF and they sold out all of the shows but SD and that was because the computer selling the tickets went down and they couldn't sell anymore. They are very popular in LA and always sell out. I think the music industry people all know them and respect them, that's why they do so well here.

The Green Day association definitely helps, but I imagine it's hard for the band to capitalize on it, just because there really isn't a non-tacky way to go about it. They opened for Green Day in '96 and '01, which makes me think there's a reason the band hasn't exploited the connection already. Maybe it's because they want to break through on their own merits, or maybe they're just sick of being asked about Green Day all the time.

Maybe that crowd wouldn't know if a quality act kicked them up the ass
Not likely to find any crowd like that here in Australia (If they do then there is a fool-proof method of getting them amped up with Prisoner of society) my favorite song on the SOE album has to be into the red

For once in my life I agree with Jawn
I go to see the bands to listen to the music, if I wanted to break my neck I might as well do it when a band I dont like is playing

the show at ritual in levittown was similar in nature, with like 10 kids rocking out and the others....just standing there (the fact that the venue wasnt even half full will anger me to the grave). the knitting factory made up for it though.

yeah that's lame. i was sweating it out when i saw them in philly, because it took a fair amount of time for the club to fill up, by the time tle came on though, it seemed like there was a decent crowd.
i feel kind of funny when i worry about people filling up a club and i'm not even on the bill. i guess it boils down to me wanting them to get the respect they deserve, especially being that far from home.

way to totally miss the gist of what he is saying. Or maybe your trying just trying to offer an 'alternative' point of view just for the sake of it. But anyway, i understand what prisonerofphiledelphia is saying..some gigs you just get the vibe that the crowd doesn't connect as well with the artist as you would like or expect. Im sure you had a good time though!

I was there, dancing as best I could but I was right up against the barricade and someone was like right up next to me and I couldnt really do anything, but i did my best, and yes I will say the crowd sucked, i was kinda disappointed cos TLE were like all "Ta-da" and eveyone was just like O_O. Very reserved kind of crowd, wasn't much for it TLE was great though, not much you could do in a small place either.
