Anyone here done it?

I was summonsed to attend Jury Duty this week.

It's a bit of a rip. $36 a day. I'd make more in an hour at work than that. and doing the same amount of work (ie. sitting on my arse reading a paper/magazine). I want a pair of those Homer Simpson glasses that look like your awake, when your asleep.

How come its always the people who don't want to do jury duty that get picked? I really want to do it and i've not been picked ever.

Maybe I should move to a small town with a high crime rate! That would surely increase my chances.

What's the system for being chosen anyway? Get a phone book and pick our random names?

I haven't done it before... I think it's done through the electoral roll?

One of my supervisors at work has done it before. He'd be the funniest person to do it with..he'd just confuse everyone with his opinions :p

Yeah, I think they just pick random names from the electoral roll.

But getting called up to go there doesn't mean that you'll definitely get picked for a jury.

Oh, that'd be me if I was chosen! lol

Annoy the buggery out of everyone while we are locked in that room deciding on a verdict, mwuahaha! :D
You get catered for during these things, no? Like with food and stuff? :p

If anyone's played any of the Phoenix Wright games, I'd love for court to be like that. I wouldn't mind doing jury duty, I guess - though I've got years before they'll request me, i'm sure.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES FTW!!

There is such an easy way to get out of jury duty...just say you know about the case.

They have to be sure that no one in the jury will have any biased opinion...
Say you know about it...You get off (and I think the rest fo the jury gets dismissed and they find another bunch of people)

Get your boss to write a letter saying you can't. My dad has been summoned heaps but the boss just writes him a note to get him out of it.

Also, it's something I really wouldn't risk doing. Imagine being part of one of those cases that last for months, can you imagine how much that would suck?

I got summonsed a month after I turned 18, but got out of it - I'd just started my three month probation at work.

They made a movie out of that, it's good. :)

the best way to get out of it, is to say you either are a cop, are closely related to a cop, or have anything to do with a cop, they wont touch you

There are many people who can be exempt, or who are not allowed at all to sit on a jury.

Just waiting.

I'm taking my own magazine with me tomorrow. The "General Interest" magazines they supplied sucked. Womens Day and New Ideas aren't General interest for men.

I thought you could choose whether you were on the 'list' to be picked. My mother reckons she had her name taken off whatever it is that they draw you from. I don't know how or why though.

I'd like to do it though, I thi it would be hella boring, but interesting to know what someone did to be there in the first place :p unless I became a cop or something then I wouldn't do it haha.

Nah you have no choice.

They send you out some questionairre, you fill that in, send it back, then a little while later you'll be summonsed.

When in the jury pool (its not as good as it sounds) you sit around until a court sessions starts.

Then in the court room, someone pulls a bunch of names out of the box. If your name isn't called out, you leave and go back to the room and wait for another court hearing to start.

And because my court is a country court, the don't do too many sittings in one day. And there's no lengthy trials.

My aunty was on the Jury for that Lady In the Boot trial. Free hotel room, food, drink etc. No contact with family, other than written notes passed onto the judges assistant, who would analyze it then pass it on to your family.

My mum was selected twice, but didn't go. I don't know why though, I would love to go in and pretend to be her.

They summons you, but you can get out of it by pretending you're a bigot or something. Just scrawl "i better not get some gaybo bullshit" on your forms, or "all black people are guilty" or something.

the prosecution tries to weed out women and minority groups because they think they these people are more likely to feel sympathy for the accused.

Today was my last day.

We all got ushered into the court room and they started the selection process.

I wasn't picked. So then I got to leave.

Though when the Judge came out, all I could think of was Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law. and the 2 judges (Mentok the Mindtaker, and Judge Mightor)

Yeah its prolly the better choice there Sarah. Army is shithouse.

Well, it can be an enjoyable experience but you gotta be pretty keen about it.
