What order do you think the following things will happen. (or state that they will not happen if you think that)

1. Australia gets a non-white prime minister
2. Australia gets a non-male prime minister
3. Australia gets a non-straight prime minister
4. Australia gets a non-liberal party or labor party prime minister
5. Australia gets a non-british head of state. *
6. Penny Wong becomes prime minister, knocking down 1,2,3 in one go.
7. A part of Australia becomes part of another country, or part of another country becomes part of Australia. (eg, tasmania becomes its own country, new zealand becomes part of Australia)

*a republic is what i am trying to say here.

Given a longstanding apathy, and a present undercurrent of less-than-positive feelings toward the aboriginals by much of the rest of the population, I doubt they'd have a chance of getting the top job any time soon.

But given the press most female politicians in this country receive, I doubt they'd be able to run a strong enough campaign to gather the votes they'd need to win.

And well, the Democrat party lost all its seats (thankfully Don wasnt around to see it), so I dont like the chances of a non Labor or Liberal politician rising to the top either.

Becoming a Republic (and thus having a republican head of state) is, I think, the most likely option.
And frankly, once Liz is gone, I hope that happens.

*edit - and if gays cant get be accepted enough to be allowed to marry, what chance do they have in being accepted as leader of the nation?

well, I think most these things will happen, just not all of them in my lifetime. It is possible that the country will be very different in 100 or 200 years and for some of these I was thinking very long term!

anyway I think.

Elaborations
1. I think the concept of a republic has become more popular in recent times, even since the last referendum. (which I was too young to vote in at the time) I think that monarchists are slowly dying off. Also, the leader of the opposition is a strong republican and if he manages to hold on long enough to be there when the liberal party gets back in (unlikely, since opposition leaders rarely stay in there for the long haul but he might get chucked out and put back in again) I'm sure he will push for it.
On the other hand I have heard even strong republicans say they would like to wait until ol' queenie carks it before another referendum. and she could live for another 20 years!
2. Mostly because we've currently got a female deputy PM, and governer-general and there's a few wimminzzz in the cbinet and shadow cabinet. Its only a matter of time before some chick is appealing enough. Plus, if a republic happens first then there will be a certain about of change hangin' about.
3. The reason I think this will happen before the non-white one is because this person's non-straightness will be kind of low-profile. There's a few gay people in politics and I don't think any of them are particularly flaming. So, this person will be like that. Also, before this I think that a P.M who doesn't have a family/kids will be elected.
4. Because by whenever this time is, australia should have its very own barack obama type. A 'non-challenger' if you will.
5. probably the greens or some type of break away party. Remember that I am thinking very very long term.
Although technically, if federal politics follows in the footsteps of QLD and joins the coalition into one party this could happen a lot sooner.
