Yeah well, I'm one of those people who share things insanely...if I had my hands on bootlegs of unreleased songs, I'd be frowned upon by some, but loved by many. - Still upset I couldn't make it to the safety matches gigs. Guys at work already booked a holiday at the same time.

I've been yelled at many times by you guys for putting up TLE vids on youtube..the official vids that is. Live performances hardly ever make it outside a one time TV airing.

Som people are greedy!
And some of us just try and show respect to the band we love... :ermm:

Big J.G

It's like this "We have a new song!...No you can't hear it, sorry, wait 6 months for the album, but the song might not be on it, oh well!"

yeap, that's the problem. at least don't indicate that you have it!
oh well, we'll have our own exclusives one day.

Really though, in all honesty, the whole bootlegging thing is silly i reckon. Like yeah, its all about showing respect to the band, i get that. But this is my view.

If the band is willing to go out and play gigs playing new songs only, what difference does it make if someone records that, and eventually shows people. I mean, they played the show..If a band goes out and plays a show, thats the 'risk' (very loosely termed) that they take, and they know that people will be out there sharing the songs. Bands might not like it, but it's more than likely just going to hype up the album even more, and generate positive publicity.

I mean, the reaction to the songs has been generally positive, so it shouldnt make a difference. It's not as though theres going to be a massive upheaval amongst the fans, and they are all just gon hayt n Teh Lyvin 3nd. It's one of the perks of being in a famous band, if you're putting your shit out there, then you gotta take that. It's more than likely gonna be heard one day anyway, and once its circulating, it should be up to the listeners discretion as to whether they want to 'ruin the surprise of a new album'

I sure as hell i know if i was in a band, i'd love my music to be circulating. Even if the reaction was negative, because any publicity is good publicity amongst music circles.
Why should all the forumites be penalised for not being able to travel 600km and see a secret show? It's childish i think, just playing the whole, 'I have teh bootlegz, but i'm not sharing you. These are the lyrics, but nobody can hear'

Dont know if that made much sense, and sorry if i offended you die hard fans, but who really gives a crap. They played the fucking shows for god sake. Spice up the forums a bit.

And remember, the person next to you could be your future partner.
Domination over.

For me, it comes down to this:

They're called 'secret gigs' for a reason!

I understand that not everyone can attend them, especially people who live outside of Australia. But for this last lot of gigs, some of us spent A LOT of time researching the dates and locations so the people could attend. Some people who knew the dates chose not to share the info, some people did.

Going to these types of gigs is an awesome & more importantly, unique experience. You don't hear of many bands giving their fans the chance to hear songs that might not even make the album, especially in a live setting! I was able to get along to the '08 Longnecks gigs and even I don't have a decent-ish sounding recording of ANY of the songs.

So, for some of us, we keep the crappy sounding audio/visual recordings that you can't even hear clearly, as a reminder of the gig/s. It's not like we can go out next month to the Espy and hear it all over again. And it's certainly not like we're keeping high quality recordings from you all. And I know how much some of you like HQ files!

It's also nice to have something like these files because we're at a point where entire albums are being leaked via the internet before their release date and when nearly everything ends up on youtube almost instantaneously because of the mobile technology that so many people have.

So there :p

That's the kicker for me.

Some time ago I might have been persuaded to share even crappy recordings with the die hard fans, but then it's out of my hands, and one selfish little moron decides to dispense with the notion of respect, so goes and posts something they shouldn't, and they ruin my trust in everyone else.

Besides, assuming you are true fans and not just going through a phase, don't you think it'd be great to have someone 'rediscover' these 'lost' bootlegs 20 or 30 years from now?

You'll notice I don't ask anyone about their bootlegs, but you can bet your bottom dollar I'm looking forward to the day other gems are eventually released!

Honestly, It's okay I guess. To me, the lyrics are really cheesy, and Chris misses out an awesome opportunity to put a really rockin solo in there. Verse melody is pretty bland in my opinion. Not that impressed by it, but its not horrible by any means.

Yeah, I figured a Sony Cybershot may do the job since I saw the Gold Coast Big Day Out videos, the guy who filmed said he used it, fantastic quality.

Agreed. Black and White is sounding pretty fucking tasty. 'The End is Just the Beginning' has been stuck in my head for days, I really hope that song doesnt end up a B-Side, its one of the best songs Ive ever heard from the guys in a long time. Reminds me of Loaded Gun a bit.

Shadow
01-12-2011, 12:51 AM
On the Safety Matches setlists the song was listed simply as "The Ending".

To be honest, it was one of the songs (along with United, Black & White, Resist, and Universe) that I was most excited about for the new album. Hearing any of these on YouTube simply does not do it justice (it is so fucking huge hearing it actually live).

One criticism I have for the song though is that I don't think that Scott should do the high harmony on the "whoa-oh-oh" bit at the start, only at the end of the song (only the final four bars of whoa-oh's, if that makes sense).

Aww.. They fuck me off too and I don't even have epilepsy. When I'm just having a beer and watching a set, I don't need to feel like someone's flicking the light switch on and off at break neck speed in front of my face. Angry letter to local street press? Rolling Stone mag? Haha.
I wonder if they are distracting for the band playing?
It's funny, back when i first started going to gigs ect, there would be warning signs at clubs about strobes and on tickets. Haven't seen one of those for a long time.

Yeah I know some people are jerks, at about 5 min mark some guy yells 'play the tune wanker!' while chris is talking.

I had to laugh when Chris is like "This song's called black and white" and straight away some guy yells out "Go pies" hahaha

I'm not too sure if I like the new chrous, maybe it's just cause I'm used to the old one.

same with me! I listened to an "old" version only couple of times, but still that one sounds more familiar for me. Though I have no doubt this will be forgotten once the album version is heard!
Hopefully that person will upload United as well, just to compare versions of it too :)

and about retards yelling shit at the concerts - how rude is that?! if you don't like the band and their current stuff - you can always just go home and listen to POS on repeat for 4900 times until your narrow mind blows up.

I'm still hating the fact that I had the entire TLE Big Day Out set recorded (2006 i think it was), and also, I had Andrew G and Chris walking around backstage, mucking around and such, which went for about 2 hours or so. "Jack White never pees" comes to mind... But all this was long when my DVR broke and the harddrive crashed :/

I really want to watch it again. If only there was a way to get it out of the Channel V vault.

see what i was saying about the second guitarist tho! that sounds similar to the mix at the album launch. the second guitar is there, but just to do those little extra bits, and to make sure that the ass-end doesnt fall out when chris does his leads. Guitar #2 (Adrian i believe his name is?) is much lower in the mix, and isnt taking away from that bright sparkly Cheney tone!!

All_torn_down16
07-22-2011, 03:00 PM
Agreeing with Mitch here, this sounds a lot more like the mix at the album launch.

I'm sorry all of you who weren't there got that shocking Youtube mix coz live it was great, even if we all felt having the 2nd guitarist was a shock (trust me, I did and Mitch can confirm this!). But there's no arguing, live ithe band's sound is incredible and really if you close your eyes or focus on the boys, you might even forget there's someone else there...it's just nice and subtle and adds character to the sound. But it will still take time to get used to definitely.

Song For The Lonely Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGkDbEYVfDs&feature=feedu)

haha that is absolutely riddiculous. :p

Quick question... Are film clips of less/more/indifferent importance now compared to say 15-20 years ago?

I love film clips. To be honest, I don't mind the whole "Mini-film" type craze that is sweeping pop videos of late...it gives a greater scope for some interesting ideas.

Definetly a different direction on this clip, but it definetly makes you think, instead of just sit there and watch it. You gotta form your own opinion on it. I say good on them for trying something so much different, rather than just another band playing in a room/live footage clip.

Yeah it made me think a lot too.. I recorded my thoughts:

"Ah, this must be a hoax clip"

"Hmmm, I hope that little girl's dress is flame retardant or she gonna burn!"

"Oh, this is the real clip then?"

"Needs more dancing "Berlin Chair" guy!"

"I wonder who rides shotgun on the way home... The flame girl, chunky guy or nude dude?"

15 years ago music stations on tv actually played music videos.. not quite the same now.

I like it, they did well. I mean, the whole showing shots of the band playing thing is overdone.

They made it so blatant (In terms of situations) so that people would pick up on it without thinking too much, yet still some people on the old tube are saying it makes no sense, when it's fairly obvious whats going on. Congrats for them doing something lighthearted, i enjoyed it. :)

We agree with Jarrad's opinion, and think that rhythm of developments in the video fits well to the song melody rhythm. But this video could be more interesting if TLE guys will be there instead of the actors, or at last Chris + some contrast looking people.
This song is very different or maybe attract different audience, so maybe this video fits better for such aim. Maybe double bass in video for such song put smb. on their guard.

I quite like it, if only because it's different & a bit more thought provoking. I agree with whoever it was that wrote in the comments that maybe people are too used to these huge Lady Gaga type video clips - it doesn't need to be a huge, big budget production. At the end of it all, it's simply a visual representation of the song - the song is what we're all there for. The song has a certain meaning to Chris and the band and that's how they wanted to represent it - so what if some people don't like it or don't get it?

it definantly not the video i was expecting. I was expecting them to take the piss out of disco itself.

Something like a story of a lonely kid going to a disco or something lol

I dont mind it at all. but I like the kind of "artistic" video clips that are coming out now days rather than the usual. little bit of story, cut to band, little bit more story, cut to band.... etc
that everyone seems to do.
A clip i really liked recently was for Circles - Birds Of Tokyo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYt556pyPr0) such a strange video, but its a good thinker.

I quite like the video ;)

I liked the direction the TEIJTBR clip was heading, but was a bit let down when they kept the boys in the clip (nothing personal guys! :p ). I was waiting for this one to cut to the band as well, but was happy when they didn't. Nice and simple, but at the same time makes for a bolder clip :)

See, I was hoping they'd flip it in the end and have Scott and Andy paintballing Chris...

Other than that, good clip, just a little in the vain of many others at the moment. And I was saying to Martin earlier today, it's like film students have made a batch of generic clips, and this one was thought to best fit.
Nothing wrong with it, but nothing really TLE going for it either. Could be any band/art project...

Agreed, it really could be for just about any band or song.

Also... As MWG pointed out, Chris is packing up the family and moving Stateside.

Has there been a big deal made out of that on the forum some where and I've missed it? Because it seems like something that would usually have a big deal made of it and people speculating about what it means for the band?

I should also say, that I like that interviewer. I think he interviewed Chris at that guitar thing last year yeah? He seems to have a good rapport with Chris and it was a nice long interview.

In the long interview that was posted a few posts back (it goes for 24 mins) the interviewer says something along the lines of... "So you're packing up the family and moving to the US?" and Chris says that he is and that he'll be clocking up lots of frequent flyers or something like that.

He pretty much summizes that it won't affect the band too much as he'll just fly back to Melbourne and that they'll have "Quality" band time. I think he even says "The Living End are my main priority" which is good news for the fans. Not so sure what the Mrs will think of that line though!

Not for certain, but quite recently I would say. They talk at length about going to the US to write and live in an apartment for 3 months and then talk about "the move" as a seperate thing. Chris even asks if he can stay on the interviewers couch while he's in Melbourne or something, so they must be packing up and moving. ;)

I remember a rumor about it around the time of the last album but from memory Rae knocked it on the head?

Meh, I don't see it as having a huge impact on the band anyhow. It's 2011 and last time I checked, it's not that hard to book a flight from US-AUS and vice versa?
