There were a couple of big screens in use for tle set and there would be a pro sound recording for the lock up so if someone has access to that they could put something together. The sound recording will have been made by the bbc and you would be able to request a copy off them but would require the copyright holders (ie: the band / rae) consent. If rae wanted to put it up as a free download on the website i'm pretty sure the bbc would let them as they usually only charge a fee if it's for commercial use.

I don't know if this has been brought up or not by somebody else, I have a VHS video with TLE playing "I get a kick out of you" and also a heap of TV theme songs as part of the last episode of "Good News Weekend" waaaay back in August 1998.

I watched it the other day and am planning on getting it converted to DVD very soon. If any of you are interested, I am quite happy to upload it onto Youtube or something - but the catch is you will have to tell me how to do it!

I think originally I either had a better quality version of this or just the old skool players used to play it better. It never used to be so, um, pixelated i guess!

It plays okay in real player for me, but yeah, it's completely shite quality.

You gotta remember concert was like 4 or 5 years ago, his sound has changed abit since. Go back another 4 or 5 years and you'll notice his sound was dirtier even more. He just seems to get cleaner as he's getting older hehe

If the file is to big to upload, just download one of those ipod video converters, there easy enough to find and they reduce the size of the video significantly at the cost of screen size but at least we'll be able to see it (although I have already seen it)

Yeah, his guitar sounds like a gem when it's not distorted but their older stuff which they recorded with distortion would sound good these days if they still played them with distortion.

Also, grungier as in the distrotion, (not the image or lifestyle).

Maybe we should stop talking about distortion on Chris' guitars and talk about videos. (this is the video forum).

The only reason that MA is "clean" is because Mark Trombino gave it a spit and polish so severe that it wiped out a great deal of the grittiness that we love from TLE.

i think he basically just has the contour turned way down, i have a hollow body gretsch and when its turned up loud on the amp it does have a bit of bite too it, it depends on the pickups too

That's what i thought. Because distortion drives me up the wall, and the only reason i could ever imagine people using it for is to mask their inability to play guitar. And we all know that Chris is a bit alright on the old axe.

He might add a bit of a boost, be it more drive or a little distortion, for the solos and lead work.... other than that there isn't very much at all, it's mostly the amp combined with the pickups.

when you hear him live his sound is massive. It's so clean and big sounding... It's a dead set Malcolm young sound. It's clean and loud, poweramp valves kicking in hard and his speakers breaking up, his sound is huge. But when you listen to live gig recordings you obviously dont get that 'punchy' sound what so ever that you capture live. All you hear is a microphone catching the guitar tone as opposed to 'feeling it' like you would live. Since he's got such a big sound live, when you are there it sounds like he's got alotmore drive than what he actually has. And yes 99% of you probably dont have a clue what im talking about but thats ok!

And I'll repeat again.... Throw out all the sounds off albums out of your head. 'chris LIVE has gotten cleaner over the years'. Forget about what the most recent album sounded like... Selt titled (dirty, live very dirty), roll on (still dirty, dirty live), Mod Art (pretty clean, dirty live but not as much as before) SOE (pretty clean, clean live).

And chris dosnt have any dist. pedals at all. He has 4 overdrives/boosts. 3 are seperate solo boosts depending on his taste (he uses them in no set order) and the 4rd is a compression for stuff like the middle bit of 'til the end'.

JayTee, a compressor "compresses" your tone. It evens it out, clipping peaks and vice versa. Its subtle and will smooth out your tone, reducing volume peaks and increasing the dips.

Short, sweet, straight to the point answers.

Compressor - All your levels are the same. Play the guitar quiet... play it hard, The volume output will be exactly the same. You can hear it in the middle bit of til the end... if your awesome like me then you'll simply be able to hear that the whole riff is perfectly the same level. If you saw the sound waves, they would all be the same size (none bigger/louder or smaller/softer). All the same level.

Overdrive vs. Dist. = Dist is dirtier. Fall Out Boy is dist. Thirsty Merc is overdrive.

its basically identical to the gigrig i was telling fritz about. It's not midi, it allows you to have true bypass and have a specific selection of pedals switched on at once, so you don't have to tap dance between loads of stompboxes to get one sound.

Thanks and thanks! It's arrived anyway so not too worry. Basically was getting the CD/DVD version of SOE as it's not available over here, and i'd just been paid so hey, who cares if I now have the album twice!

The DVD is good...there's a song though that they play a few times in the rehearsal studio/demo period, and Chris and the producer have a chat about the structure. It sounds really catchy but it doesn't make the album... does anyone know if it was recorded? I do realise how vague I'm being here!

The forumer who had it wasn't very active, however seriousJAMES knew the guy, and organised for the bodgy "video the tv" copy...because they didn't have the facilities for a proper rip. Once some people on here DID have the facilities for a proper rip, the parties involved were not forthcoming, and too precious about the rarety of this recording and thus refused to share. It's one of the biggest shames in the whole of the TLE Media history.

I'm planning to try and get it on here, still going through all of them, it's sad cause from 2000-2003 my vcr sucked and theres really no point converting them, there is static literally every 5 seconds and only if you played them on panasonic vcrs would they play with sound. weird.
I've still got the only vcr they worked on... after i finish going through all the stuff that is good quality i'll see what i can salvage from the evil vcr tapes.

I actually have a copy of the roundhouse gig video, despite being 'amateur' and taken from a website stream, quality is not that bad. Video is 72 minutes long, and about 118MB, which unfortunately is not compatible with my dial-up.

A few of the videos I've uploaded in the past have gotten removed due to Copyright Claims and then later on YouTube deleted my account. I don't even bother with uploading videos anymore unless they're videos that I personally own or have shot myself, but I rarely shoot videos so I just use it to make a list of favourites.
