Travelling is a double edged sword. It's the best and worst part of being in a band. Living out of a suitcase and being away from home for months on end is something I have to mentally prepare for.
Keeping in touch is easy these days thanks to cell phones, iChat, video conferencing and, of course, e-mail, but the way I deal with homesickness is to focus on the job at hand and remember to have fun at the same time. A music career can last year, more if you are lucky, so you've gotta give it all you can while you can. If you're the kind of person that needs friends and family within close proximity, then this probaby isn't the job for you. Simple pleasures like hitting the pub for a cold beer with your mate or going to your mum's for a roast aren't doable when you're halfway to San Antonio. But, really, how many people get to do what I do? Not that many. And let's face it. San Antonio is a pretty nice place for a cold beer."
