I picked this up for a friend who likes them. I'm really not familiar with them so I thought it might be some rare early thing from them? I just wanted to find out before I gave it as a gift.

It has a white paper sleeve. Just has THE LIVING END on the front. On the back it has the track list

1] Prisoner of Society
2] Growing Up
3] Second Solution
4] West End Riot
5] Bloody Mary
6] Monday
7] All Torn Down
8] Save the Day
9] Trapped
10] Have They Forgotten
11] Fly Away
12] I Want a Day
13] Strange
14] Closing In

At the ends it has The Living End hand-written in black ink on one side and red on the other. On the inside sleeve it says

Chris - Vocals and Guitar

Scott - Bass and Vocals

Trav - Drums and Vocals

I thought if it was someones burned cd they wouldn't go through all the trouble with the sleeve. It's on an Imation cd-r with THE LIVING END written in sharpie. Any ideas?

It's the self titled album burnt onto a CD.

So I guess it isn't something they sold out of the back of their van or something then? :(

Well Strange on Self Title is a U.S Only release. So I suppose thats rare lol.

If they're not a super-avid fan, they might not know about the U.S. version, in which case they'd probably be chuffed to get a cd with a "rare" track they haven't heard, especially one as tight as the S/T version of Strange. Knocks Sleep On It on its ass... in a way I think Strange is the definitive TLE song...as far as the cliche-"punky-rockabilly" view of them goes.

Sleep On It is the better song in my opinion, its a bit strange that they had to replace it.

Who's to say this person is actually Australian? They could well be from the US in which case they don't have anything even approaching rare!

Yeah, I think 'Good Will' is a pretty North American term too.

And the Aussie Goodwills aren't so dodgy that they'd sell burnt CDs, i'm pretty sure.

Apparently it's shadowed by Strange...

I love Sleep On It, it's one of my favourite TLE songs! Nothing wrong with it at all.

You shouldn't make these decisions willy-nilly. Perhaps you should sleep on it...

What's with the lame joke Glenn?! You can do much better!

DON'T you sleep on it!!!

Nothing wrong with sleep on it, it just...feels more like a b-side. I just feel like Strange has all those classic TLE trademarks...the thumping, unmistakably upright bass, indulgent guitar solos (smooth jazz turns into chuck berry!!), lyrics TEEMING with outsider angst....and so on.

P.S. I think Sleep On It (obviously along with Closing In) is the only track off of the S/T album that they have never played live, even partially. Just a side note...

Wait nevermind. I Want A Day. Now that side note is even more pointless. I wonder why they just NEVER play certain tracks?? I think we'd all get a kick out of some left-field setlist surprises.

Chris played some of Closing In at a soundcheck in Adelaide on request. He claimed that "we probably played it live at some point".

that's sweetacular!! I remember reading somewhere that that song (or at least portions of it) were his jazz final at TAFE, where they had to perform an original composition.

That's how the story goes, yeah.
