Just wondering if anyone has any methods for stoping amp feedback from a holowbody guitar. I had to play a gig a while back at a crappy place where they didn’t have enough mic's to mic up the amps, and in order to stop my guitar (G6118) from feeding back i had 2 turn the guitar master volume right down, cancelling out all the sustain. I have 2 play at the same place again in a few weeks, does any one know anything i can do that will help me out?
Thanks

well for all we know he could be ???
Thats a funny question.. Ive always learnt to live with it. Its just 2nd nature for me to always turn the master on my guitar down when im not playing or in quiet parts. I dont even notice I do it anymore. I play falcons and 6120 through my 50 watt marshall almost on 10 so I bet I have a worse problem than kel! I dunno...... I havent modded my guitars to be more feedback proof, ive just lived with it.
and basically 'you get that' when you play a hollow body guitar in rock and roll. There pretty much isnt too many ways around it. Chris dosnt foam up his guitars or anything anymore. He just does what i do and accept that it will happen and he turns down every single time he needs to

I might wat 2 play metalica, not at this gig though. Simple option is i could use my other guitar. but prefer 2 use my gretsch. what kind of foam do u recomend, we did once stuff the wholes with cloths on my other holowbody, but as it only has small holows it didnt take 2 mcuh, where as ud fit a whole blanket inside my ani.

umm i know the foam but i have no idea what its called man. sorry lol
I'm no expert on hollowbody guitars but wouldn't filling it with foam efffectively ruin the purpose of playing a hollowbody guitar?

i remember my first gretsch i got when i was 16. it was a '61 tennessean. I still got it... I've retired it from gigs. At the time i was playing in a some weird punkabilly band. We did the dicey AA gig... Only vocal PA's. I didnt have too much trouble with feedback cos the f holes on my old Tennessean were painted on :D

Jawn beat me to it. You won't have the same sound that you like about if you foam it up. I've heard about people whacking some sheets in there but honestly, if you wanna play with alot of distortion with a hollowbody, you will get feedback. Switch guitars if need be.

I've seen one of those and they look cool. Alot cooler than you'd think with painted on f holes :p

oi when you play gigs where you mic up your amp how loud is your amp on. coz to get a awesome sound you have to turn it up fairly loudly and the mic is right on the speaker so whats the deal there?

Well that realy depends on what kind of amp u got, my amp sounds just as good as it does at loud volumes at low volumes, so normaly i have it at just the right volume so that i can get feed back if i want it but if i dont i dont get it. but all that goes out the window when u play un miked and relly entirly on the amp for volume. Also has a fiar bit to do with the room.
