I should have looked this up earlier.
http://www.maroondahfestival.com/2004/home.html
Not as good lineup as last year. But it's local and free so I'll probably go.
Program times link on the left has all the music stuff. Main stage is:
11.00am - 11.30am Redrum
11.45am - 12.15pm The Scene Conspiracy
12.30pm - 1.00pm Behind Mine
1.15pm - 1.45pm Forgiven Rival
2.00pm - 2.30pm Juliets End
2.55pm - 3.40pm Closure In Moscow
4.00pm - 4.45pm The Getaway Plan
I've never heard of any of those bands apart from The Getaway Plan who I'm not really a fan of, but I might go if I have nothing better to do, since it's free and all! I'd completely forgotton about the festival so thanks :)

I think I've seen Forgiven Rival (or been at a gig they played at - maybe in another room). And I've heard Closure In Moscow are good. But again, haven't seen them.
I can't stand the Getaway Plan but they get a lot of big support gigs.

Lolz0rs. I went to this last year. It was teh gay. (Apart from hanging out with you Cam, don't get the wrong idea :p ). And Croydon is sooo fucking far away. That, coupled with bands I don't really care about seeing, means I'm not going.
Wow. I just did two really nerdilicious things just there. I even said "teh" for chrissakes. Excuse me while I go play tetris or something.
Damn. I am playing tetris :p
I enjoyed it last year, mainly for Bagster and Trial Kennedy though.

So Grumma, it's almost our 1 year anniversary. What we doing?
And on a topic-related note, who's going to Maroondah Festival? There was a tiny article in the local paper today about it.

Anybody know if you still have to catch the train part of the way on the Belgrave/Lilydale line? I think it's finished now but not sure (putting the road under/over the railway at Middleborough Road?).
I'm pretty sure it's finished, but if you check the metlink melbourne website it'll probably tell you :)

You mean if you have to catch a bus? It's all done, no more busses (except perhaps the road is still out) and it's incredibly smooth. You get to ride about 10 metres down from the surface right next to the cemetary! :D

The festival was okay. Lineup definitely not as good as last year and way too hot (even being in the shade all day). Probably 1/4 of the number of people last year. The security guards were doing something interesting: pushing crowd surfers back into the crowd. Getting pretty annoyed. I think it was meant to deter the crowd but it only incited them.
I'll post some photos later.

lmao.
Yeah apparently there was a massive punch on between a group of emos and a group of metros in addition to some Croydon bum I used to go to school with hitting a couple of emo kids
BTW Im using emo to describe anyone wearing a black band tee
cdejonge
02-18-2007, 06:51 PM

yup all of em 100% redrum  we were thinkin of doin a cover but we were cutting our time pretty close as it was, and we couldnt agree on anything, dragon force, metallica, yngwie melmstien, chilli peppers and the living end of course, as we regularly play prisoner of society at party gigs and pubs. but yeah time ran out and couldnt deside. but yeah was a good chance to get our songs out there :)

Reminded me of Metallica. Keep up updated on gigs.
On a random note, about 4 people came up to me during the day asking questions about the festival because I had my fluro orange trolley collector teeshirt on and they thought I was working there :p

hahaha oh man that would have been anoiying having people bug you all day, i got heckled after i got of stage by a metallica fan cuz of my st anger t shirt lol "and justice for all is the best album" I DONT CARE MAN I LIKE THEM ALL! ARRGH
Grumma
02-20-2007, 09:32 AM
YES!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally someone else who doesn't think St Anger is a shit album!!!! (well recording quality aside)
Even though I do prefer MoP, Justice stuff, I do quite like songs like I Dissappear and St Anger that came on later albums. And I also prefer Hetfield's voice now that it's become deeper (compared to Ride The Lightning etc)
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 12:35 PM
hell yeah man :)
he has alot more technique now than what he did in the 80's cuz of blowing his voice out and having to actually learn how to sing properly.
the thing i like most about them is like what we were talkin about with dragon force very repedative, same with children of bodom. thats why i like metallica for taking the chance to evolve and not release the same album over and over. risk takers not just staying with one formula :)
Grumma
02-20-2007, 12:41 PM
Yeah exactly.
I think it was Corey from Trivium that said in an interview that the real sellouts are those that stick to formulas that they know work, and never try anything new
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 01:00 PM
well he is indeed very wise :), i cant understand why some one would limit there fan base with just one style of music, my goal is to make as many people as possible enjoy what we play but then again at the same time you have to be happy with what your playing and not faking it, cuz that WOULD be selling out
Grumma
02-20-2007, 01:17 PM
Sounds like a fair enough aim :)
I'm like the opposite: I write songs that are meant to annoy people *cue halo*
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 01:23 PM
well i suppose thats a fair enough goal to lol hell emo bands have been doin that for like the last 2 years. i dunno if it anoiys most people but it sure bugs the crap out of me :(
Grumma
02-20-2007, 01:27 PM
Haha I didnt mean quite like that.
I'm intentionally being annoying whereas they actually think they're good :p
Example: these 2 songs I wrote about a local band called Celadore
You need me to set you straight
You're goin nowhere fast at this current rate
Overated yet underpayed
What hope do you have of getting laid
From all that Ive heard you're a bit of loser
Would take a girl simply to use her
For your own needs to be a slave
Who none could save from you
This things becoming an emergency
Your live shows seem lack urgency
When you're on stage show some spirit
Take the crowd by the throat and squeeze
You sound like a cat coughing on a fur ball
And I don't need you to understand
But I'm gonna say it anyway
To me all your songs sound the same
Ode to Celadore, my friends
How could such a beautiful thing as music
Be smashed and slaughtered like the Jews
Dimebag is turning is his grave wondering why
This blasphemy did not make the news
The answer is more clouded than it is clear
Can this ailment be cured by beer
Eddie's calling I could not refuse
Metal's standing on its last stand
To defend this hallowed land
Against a generic force can it prevail
Over the hills and far away
You take your music and there you stay
Had enough of putting up with you
And your band
It's as if your act hasnt taken its toll
And it wasnt enough to kill rock and roll
Ive ripped off my ears
Eaten out my heart, made it bleed
They'll say that you're never gonna get anywhere
That's what they'll tell you
They say you're never ever ever gonna get anywhere
Sadly enough that is true
Hey dreamer what do you think you're doing
Hey deceiver all your hopes are paved to ruin
And you ask why, oh why, oh whyyy
why, oh why, oh whyyyyy . . .
Hahahahahahahaha
Do you hear the voices
The ones that fill your mind with doubt
Leaving you with choices
Where no good end can be found
You cant make a difference
So give up while you can
No point in defiance
Your act is being canned
No, i dont wanna listen to you
Anymore . . .
And I, can't wait
Til your time is through
In an age where mediocrity reins
You're yet to leave your mark
Your critics take this as a game
For that you say theyre harsh
But look deep inside your mind
Realisation must be there
It's time to make a change
If you're not getting anywhere
No, I dont wanna listen
To you anymore
And I, cant wait
Til your time is through
I'm not your friend
I'm not your enemy
I am beyond your nightmare
All the dreams you've held
Lie in pieces
All the hopes you've had
Are fucking drowned
Everything you've ever had
Dies . . . Tonight!
Go.

tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 01:45 PM
ill make sure to keep an eye out on the mordor myspace to hear the songs then :)
Grumma
02-20-2007, 01:52 PM
haha I'll be making another myspace for the anti-band songs in attempt to hide my identity for at least a little while :p
Just long enough that everyone at Luther has heard the songs ;)
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 01:53 PM
lol good old luther, just around the corner from my place. oh well, keep me posted on it :)
Grumma
02-20-2007, 01:56 PM
Haha oh dont worry. I will ;)
So how many of the band went to Aquinas?
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 02:01 PM
just myself and jimmy, although originaly we had a full aquinas band, but over time people went there seperate ways, i believe fungus went to norwood and alejandro went to sherbrook
Grumma
02-20-2007, 02:04 PM
Well I know where Norwood is but Ive never heard of Sherbrook.
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 02:10 PM
lol yeah man id never heard of it either, i believe its near monbulk. so you go to luther then? or went ... which ever :)
Grumma
02-20-2007, 02:13 PM
Haha nah I couldnt stand to go to Luther.
I'm too strong in my Atheist ways.
That and I had my eyebrow and both ears pierced while I was still in school.
I went to Box Hill High (the one opposite the footy oval on Middleborough). I just happen to know of the band through people I know that go to Luther
tonybartlett_redrum
02-20-2007, 02:18 PM
lol yeah ive never been a god person either but still went to aquinas cuz all my friends were going, and im pretty sure i know the place, infact i just remembered that fungus left norwood to go to a place in box hill, i think i may have played football at the place across the road from the school :) back in the day
Grumma
02-26-2007, 11:35 AM
Yeah he probably would've gone to Box Hill Senior.
The only people that come to our school in the later years are those that are not of Australian heritage and struggle to speak English
