Anyone gonna watch it? I'm going to sleep in about 5 mins then wake up at 2:30 to get ready for it. Dunno what to expect, but it'll be a great moment.

I'm going to set my alarm and turn on the TV in my room and attempt to stay awake. But I can't guarantee that I won't just fall asleep again.

It doesn't really interest me at all. But seeing as I have to take my uncle to the airport at 4.30-ish, I might just stay up and watch it to see what all the hoo-ha is about.

It's worth it to watch something as huge as this.
Definantly well worth it.
Been watching it since 11pm.
Letterman was a repeat, so I'm watching it.

Yep. The poet woman...wait what?
Woke up in time to see the motorcade leave the White House, so I guess it was alright timing. Ended up going to sleep when they had their lunch, and watching Bush go onto the chopper was win.

I think his speech was great!!
And I think it's good that despite the security risks, he got out and walked so much during the parade after lunch - he was only supposed to get out once, but walked about three times I think.
It was cool for me to see all the places I went, now with Obama in front of them! I saw so much of it being built for today and now I get to see it finished!

I loved how he said "60 years ago, if I walked into a resturant I would not get served"
You could tell he was so nervous..he stumbled abit when he was repeating the oath.
Still, yay for this happening.
Next up...a non religious President OR a female president.

I don't think Americans would vote for a person who admits to not being christian. Not for a long time.
we have though (bob hawke is an athiest)

You mean no-one else saw that woman who was the poet and had this really terrible speech, and her speech patterns and emphasis were just awful.
Youtube to the rescue! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32swTzWtYjs)
Also, mum and I were saying how that if Obama doesn't live up to his promises (and what poli does?) that it's possible the US people would be even more, er, disenfranchised, for the want of a better word

My cognitive science lecturer was saying that there was a study done in the U.S. which showed that people would prefer an Islamic extremist for a president than an atheist. Apparently the general consensus was that you can't possibly act morally if you don't believe in a higher power. I think it's silly reasoning and people act morally because they're human, not for fear of retribution. At least that's the way it should work. Those crazy Christian folk.

The Chief Justice screwed up the oath, so Obama said it again the next day to make sure that it was legitimate. He left out a word that day, that's why he stumbled because he knew he was saying something else.
But nevertheless, he's pretty quick with the changes. He's already tightened wages to aides and the way in which lobbyists can influence politicians. And on top of that he's like postponed the Guantanamo trials and been trying to move the cases to civilian courts. Well played.
I'm still finding myself in disbelief at times. I really didnt think America would've voted a black president in during my lifetime. Trippy, but good.
Wonder how long it will take for - the female/atheist thing in america, but also - an anglo-indian, anglo-jamaican/somali/etc, to make it to the top in England, or a black/jew to get there in Germany...
Seeing Obama get there makes me wonder if the world is more ready than I gave it credit for.

They still havn't their first person of slave descent though. I wonder how much significance that will hold when it happens.
I have heard a few dudes say they don't get the big deal because his ancestors weren't slaves and he was brought up around white people anyway.
Obviously the general black population disagrees, since they voted for him hardcorrrre and in some areas every black person looked like voting for him.
