Guess im bored this afternoon.

Sure theres only 12 notes in music and alot of songs out there. People say 'oh they ripped off this guy and he ripped off this guy!!' Most of the time it kinda flies over my head.

But doing the whole dodgy covers band things that I do, i had to learn two new girly songs (for the female singer).

Has anyone ever noticed that the Veronicas got huge worldwise success from their song '4ever' and about 6 months later Pink emerged from nowhere after a while with 'you and your hands'. You and your hands is probably the most obvious rip off of a song ive probably ever heard.

The chorus melody and chrords and timing are EXACTLY the same. Even the verses in the Pink song have the same dynamics as '4ever'. Same type of sloppy guitar riff. But yeah I just cannot get over the chorus everytime i hear it.

As i said I usually think to myself 'meh... coinsidence' whenever ppl mention other ppl ripping off stuff. But come on seriously........ The coinsidence of the veronicas having a wouldwide hit then pink coming out 6 months later with a song exactly the same.

Fuck i hate pink. always have. stupid whore. I once played a private dinner on a boat for EMI i think it was and on it was the directors of EMI, daniel johns and natalie and pink. Everyone was sooo nice except pink was the rudest bitch ive ever met. so ive always hated her. Even more so now...

4eva I heard playing singstar. Then I heard U + Ur hand (I don't understand the need for the lack of grammar) at a friend's place 'coz her sister loves pink and I was shocked at how much pinks song sounded EXACTLY like the Veronicas, I noticed it straight away!

..whooa...The Veronicas had a worldwide hit?????

There are so many songs that sound EXACTLY the same but have slightly differeing words. How can people like that be proud of themselves? Obviously they think oh that song went good bla bla, i want fame and fortune, so ill just copy the sound and change the words. No one will ever know.

I think the same bloke wrote both the pink and veronicas song, so that explains why there so similar.

As a guess he probably wrote another 15 sets of lyrics using the same tune, that equally could have been pciked up by someone

eskimo joe's song 'sarah' has the same riff as 'the neverending story'

What a joke. They were written by the same people - can't those idiots come up with something different??

jessebelle

Obviously not.

It would be funny if they guy who wrote them were like some 40 year old overly fat combover guy who sweats excesivly.

RollOn
01-28-2007, 07:40 PM
Haha, Fritz you have too much time on your hands. Although i do see your point, they're both crap songs that sound exactly the same.

I guess the dude who wrote them thought the artists themselves would make the songs "different."

What peeves me lately is how many songs use the I, V, VI, IV chord progression. (Not to mention how many 'artists' use that same progression in all of their songs.)

..but other than that, Ben Lee's Catch My Disease has the same chorus as an old Superjesus song. I haven't bothered to check if they're in the same key, but they do have the same pattern and melody.

Sometimes artists aren't even conciously aware that they're ripping off other bands, but I hear it with sooo many songs...I'd say a lot of the time it's just coincidence (especially when it's completely different genres) but there are other times when you know they've just regurgitated a hit song with different words.

The Living End totally stole POS from AC/DC's Caught With Your Pants Down :p

Oh yeah.. I'm fully aware of that. I really don't think Ben Lee was consciously ripping of the Superjesus. I just think it's funny sometimes that things are so similar.

It annoys me however, when the one artist cannot stop using a particular chord progression.

Strider
01-28-2007, 08:56 PM
That's actually quite common with bands. They get attached to certain key's, and certain progressions. And I don't know if anyone can relate to this- but particular progressions annoy the hell out of me. If a band uses a progression that doesn't sit well with me it will put me off the whole song.

Disease
01-28-2007, 09:12 PM
Yeah.. the progression I mentioned earlier in this thread particularly annoys me.

oh god that mashup dealie sounds better than the individual Pink and Veronicas songs.

ahhhh well it doesn't sound like TOO overt a ripoff. Jet get on my nerves more than either one of these groups do.

(and while Lady Sovereign may or may not be "good", her music, cornrows and sketch British accent have a high amusement factor for me and a lot of others I know.
kind of like with The Streets, except I don't think he has cornrows.)

bit random, but i've heard they're singing ba ba rainbow sheep in kindies now 'cause saying black sheep is racist

what.the.fuck.

Bec
01-29-2007, 10:48 AM
Yeah.. is that actually true or is it just a rumour?

I mean come on... it doesn't fit. And what's wrong with the sheep being black anyway? I don't understand what's offensive about it. SOME SHEEP ARE BLACK! LOTS OF THINGS ARE BLACK! DEAL WITH IT!

And since they're so worried about being politically correct wouldn't rainbow supposedly offend the gay community like the fairy penguins supposdely did? Gah people are too politically correct for their own good.

Thank you. I am no longer alone.

Are You Gonna Be My Girl (Jet) has the same music thing as Iggy Pop's Lust For Life. Though there's a bit of a time difference there :p

Erin

^ i thought that!

though i like lust for life

The intro to 'are you gonna...' is also exactly like the intro riff to The Jam's 'Town Called Malice'.

But, as with Erin & Lust, I like malice.

Thats interesting. Where did you hear that from? I have just finished the Diploma of Childrens Services and we had a music subject. The teachers never said anything about it, they did however say about Indians (go back 2 primary school, T PEE and Indians game) and the Hokey Pokey and Golliwogs are the no goers.

The rainbow sheep thing was in the news for ages while back. Quite a bit of talk about it...there was a thread for it too..might have been on the old board though.

ive always thought that "nothing lasts forever" sounds very similar to a kisschasey song (possibly do dos and woahs)

Colezy
01-29-2007, 01:57 PM
YES! The very start of it does. It only lasts about a second. That's where I stop comparing TLE and Kisschasy.

Lowee

Pfft, Tle like so totally ripped off like Soft Cells when the wrote dat song called 'taineted live'.

I'm probably just really ignorant but what's wrong with the hokey pokey?

AlinaPOW

King's Evil by Batmobile sounds an awful lot like Rudie Can't Fail by the Clash. I'm pretty dang sure that's just coincidence though...

How the hell is the hokie pokie about a disease?! That makes no sense at all. All the lyrics are about putting your legs in and out and turning around and that's what it's all about..

Hokey Pokey is about a disease (cant remember the name).

so is ring a ring a rosy, i found that out in year five (to my horror)

ring a ring a rosies (your cheeks and face would b, well, red)
a pocket full of posies was a supossed cure for the desease.
you knew when you were gonna die because you came down with a cold (a tissue a tissue) and then died (we all fall down)

yeah i know i'm stating the bleedin' obvious...:D

Bec
01-30-2007, 10:40 AM
Yeah but then there's that lame second verse
The cows are in the meadows eating buttercups
A tissue a tissue we all jump up

so it's all okay they get better :D

And I think the hokey pokey one is overreacting, even if it is meant to be about a disease it's pretty hard to find a connection and kids certainly wouldn't know. Kids are gonna have a deprived childhood now :p

Erin
01-30-2007, 10:41 AM
