I haven't been to all of the venues listed, but I do like The Forum, Espy, East Brunswick, Ding Dong & The Corner Hotel (have only been there for drinks, not a gig though).

Hmm out of those i've been to all except the Forum and Toff (for a gig). Corner would be number 1 were it not for that damn stupid pilon smackers in the middle. But I also saw one of my favourite gigs ever there, Gyroscope back in 2005. Each one of those places holds a special place in my heart. East Brunswick club where i saw Moneen for the first time. HiFi for Gyroscope a few times. Espy and DingDong for two great bands, Red Ink and someone else with a name to do with Hollywood? Billboards for Gyro and Shihad. Prince for Bob Evans (with my mum!). Palace for Pnau and Birds of Tokyo.

I would've loved to see the Ev on that list... such a great little joint. and Ruby's in Belgrave - it seems that they've only gone CBD though so i guess that wouldn't count. Otherwise yeah, i'd probably agree. Forum though... does it really appeal to Melbourne's sense of going to a pub to see a band? That's something the Evelyn has that many others never will... go out on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night, pay your $15 and see some ripping bands.

The Espy is pretty freaking cool...
Haven't been to any of the others but I'm going to East Brunswick next week probably and The Palace in September... Looking forward to it

the forum is awesome!! agreed!

i must say im not a fan of the curtin... the staircase is right in the way of the stage and the bar, and it didnt really stand up to the volume of live rock - dishonourable mention from me!

The Evelyn should be in there. I've never seen a shit gig at that venue and it's by far my favourite.

The Espy is a must see for visitors, and i have a friend who lives stumbling distance from the Corner...the lucky sod.

Where is The Tote???? We nearly lost The Tote this week(and I mean it was shut for 7 days!(maybe longer!! ARGH!!)), thankfully now its beer soaked carpet is back.

And Pony?!? Jeez, couldn't think of a shittier sounding venue.

And I'm about to be killed I know, but the Gersh @ Espy's sound these days is shit house! When they reno'd they changed the shape of the Gersh, and now the way the sound bounces off the walls is fucked. For shows like Rockwiz its okay, but with a room full of people, plus the fact the only venting they have is in the back corner, bbllaahhhh, hate going to see international acts, plus that with St Kilda fuckwits! argh! Although that all being said, the front bar is still an amazing room with TOP NOTCH sound, I've not seen a bad gig there, except for seeing a projector nearly fall on a patrons head...
