Meh. Not sure I can handle an arena full of screaming kids who complain when you dance and get too close to them.
That and have to hear what the new album is like first.

I will go just because I can. And last time I had a lot of fun despite the kids.

I saw the last show of the AI tour in Telstra Dome in melbourne. 2 encores
+ chris cheney joining them on stage + electric atmosphere = one of the, if not THE best concert I have been to.
Of course I'll see them again! Imagine if living end opened, I would be so so happy.

The Green Day/Billie Joe teenies attacked at the Riverstage (at a fucking TLE concert) The saints are coming came on between acts and they were jumping up and down screaming his name.
My excitment for GDs concert has died somewhat, sad, they are my favourite band..

Yup, was a bit excited. Found them on greendayauthority, but they are also on the website. Tickets will be through tickettek but they are yet to have anything shown yet.
Rod Laver should be ace, because telstra dome was far too big.
HEY - OH! HEYYYY OH!!! MELBOURNE!!!
Ben reed
06-06-2009, 08:52 PM
awesome, i'm looking forward to it!
i think it would be great to see green day at somewhere like the forum or something, but rod laver is actually more intimate than hisense in my opinion

The forum is amazing, I saw the Hives and Stray Cats there.
Now I just have to decide if I want to risk standing (mobbed by 14 yr old girls screaming "I love you billie joe!!!") and try and catch a guitar pick and get close to the action.
or get a seat...
I should have a few mates going to.

Updated Opening post.
Also, there will be more than one Melbourne and Sydney show...

Sex. I want to see them this July, but they're doing a stupid 'forced will call' for all the good seats and I can't be bothered actually waiting in a box office line instead of a G.A line.

Different venues or same? That said Rod Laver is pretty good
FlyingV
06-07-2009, 06:52 PM
Big question is who will support? They have big shoes to fill.
I believe Queens Of The Stone age are doing some of the american leg and Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Cheifs are doing the U.K trip.
...Living End? It would make my life, or maybe we will have someone decent like Gyroscope.
Different venues or same? That said Rod Laver is pretty good
Same venues.
As for supports, they'll bring someone with them. Doubtful they'll have an Aussie support
Ben reed
06-07-2009, 07:15 PM
i'd love to see an international support and an aussie support
Habibster
06-07-2009, 10:00 PM
So, anybody think that Chris might gain a spot up on stage again with them in Melbourne for a song or two?
i'd love to see an international support and an aussie support
They bought out Jimmy Eat World and My Chemical Romance last time round. That was pretty painful.
JEW weren't too bad, MCR were just plain awful.
Hopefully they're bringing decent supports.
Kacky
06-08-2009, 02:37 AM
I saw MCR open for them too in 2005. And then I proceeded to see them at their own show two years later. Money definitely NOT well spent.
damo0945
06-08-2009, 02:52 AM
Do you guys just not like MCR or do they suck live? Their dvd/Youtube stuff looks alright to me
Kacky
06-08-2009, 02:54 AM
When I saw them they sucked. And Gerard was being an asshole.
damo0945
06-08-2009, 03:08 AM
Oh was that you that said he came out and wouldn't talk to anyone becaus he'd just woken up or something? Even if it wasn't that was a pretty lame thing to do nonetheless
Kacky
06-08-2009, 03:11 AM
The whole snubbing us thing was very rude, he never looked up or even said hi to us. He signed autographs, and went inside, while Frank did pictures and everything.
Our opening act was supposed to be Rise Against, I think, and then when we got there we found out they weren't playing at that show so we got some other band that you couldn't understand. The crowd didn't acknowledge them very well (from what I remember) and when they came on stage Gerard seemed pissed off that we didn't like the replacement. Fuck this fuck that fuck you every two seconds.

06-08-2009, 01:40 PM

Yeah MCR are not too bad on recording, but whatever the hell they did when i saw the open for green day last tour sounded like a cat dying. Seriously, I like distortion as much as the next guy but this was just ridiculous.

06-08-2009, 06:01 PM
yeah i agree, i couldn't understand what was going on...
FlyingV
06-08-2009, 06:03 PM
haha it was loud, but it just sounded bad. then green day came on who were probably louder but had crystal clean sound, in fact I'm yet to see a better sounding live band. Perhaps Stray cats they were very clean and you could hear each instrument clear.
TaylorLovesChrisCheneyx
06-08-2009, 06:04 PM
yeah agreed.
Do you guys just not like MCR or do they suck live? Their dvd/Youtube stuff looks alright to me
I don't like them fullstop.
I thought Ahhh they might be alright (never heard their stuff before the Green Day gig) and it was all crap. Didn't like one song. The crowd didn't help either.
And when they bought out their album (the one with that hit song on it) I got forwarded a Promo copy of it, so I listened to it several times and didn't like it at all. So it went in the pile..
TaylorLovesChrisCheneyx
06-08-2009, 06:15 PM
Yeah, half of their stuff is shit.
I only liked one song and that was it.

Anyone know when Ticket prices will be put out ? With no job and needing new jeans, Jumpers, bass guitar, new amp, new hard drive in the next couple of months i might need to plan
damo0945
06-08-2009, 10:54 PM
With multiple shows and Rod Laver Arena I'd HOPE no more than $80, last time they were there it was $63
Ben reed
06-08-2009, 11:43 PM
63 bucks would be so wonderful for me right now!
but they're gonna do the whole, massive stage thing probably so i don't think we're in luck
Colezy
06-08-2009, 11:46 PM
That's pretty cheap for an international band...especially considering we paid $60 for TLE last month.
damo0945
06-08-2009, 11:57 PM
Well there's the recession and everything, so everything costs more now, plus when tickets went on sale for Green Day at Rod Laver, it was like 5 years after Warning and before American Idiot was really huge...
Edit: Forgot to add that Warning was their least popular album. I guess if you're reading this thread you probably knew that though
FlyingV
06-10-2009, 10:43 AM
Yup, I saw them at telstra dome, and I believe tickets were about 100 for seats.
Im being prepared for a 150, just in case but 63 would be a miracle! especially after just getting ACDC tickets.

Something probably would have been said if the shows were "canceled", so I'm just assuming the dates were accidentally released a little early.

Dates now officially announced:
http://www.greenday.com/site/news.php
I'm not entirely sure how the first "initiative" works though. Do they mean:
1. 300 of the GA tickets tickets will be held aside for the outlets?
2. There will only be 300 GA tickets sold, and they will be sold exclusively at outlets?
OR
3. There will be a section set aside for 300 people, and tickets will only be sold at outlets?
Pre-Sale is THIS Thursday.

I found its easier to get a ticket in the pre-sale than on actual sale day.
Plus it works good for me, cause on July 1st I have to start work earlier than usual, so no lining up for me ;)

It says maximum 4 tickets per person, that's going to be a bit tough. I can count about 6 who wanna go
ah well, it is green day and they put on one hell of a show so it will ALL be worth it.

They're doing a "forced will call" here (for anti-scalping) - if you buy tickets in certain sections close to the stage or GA, you have to pick your tickets up at the venue. As soon as you get them from the box office, you'll be escorted inside and not allowed to leave at any point.
They need to start printing names on tickets. That was the best thing Splendour did. The last two years, there has been NO tickets on ebay.

Srsly? Names stopped people from eBaying the tickets? I'd think it still wouldn't prevent it. Ticketmaster should get going on that.
andy_chalmers_102
06-24-2009, 12:00 AM
It greatly slows down the entry process though, as everyone has to be ID'd to make sure that they are the rightful ticket holders.
damo0945
06-24-2009, 12:34 AM
Open the doors/gates earlier. Everyone wins... They really should just do that (names), but there would have to be a way to change the name though, because quite often plans change etc. and someone else goes... Or they could be traded at cost price, with receipts needed to prove this. Still not quite fool proof, but better than just ticket limits.
Any hints on to who will support ? Cause if Gyroscope ain't supporting i ain't going:wub:

All_torn_down16
06-25-2009, 01:13 PM

Looks like there's only one GA section in Sydney. That's good. I hate that whole back and front section shit. It serves absolutely no purpose (except at places like SCG and ANZ Stadium where obviously 1 massive GA would just get out of hand)
Kacky
06-27-2009, 03:13 AM
No places here that I know of have split GA sections. They just do the "enter at your own risk" (well some places do) lecture and let ya in.

Ben reed
06-27-2009, 11:15 PM
also, if you and some friends both buy tickets separately, you might end up in a different area, which would suck dick!
I bought my tickets dead on 12 at the pre sale and still ended up in GA2 how the fuck does that work!?
During a pre-sale, the ticket outlet has a random amount of tickets, in random places that it selects.
If you didn't want those tickets, you could have chosen not to take them.
The idea of having a split GA, is so that there's not a giant rush towards the stage etc. It's a safety thing, especially in a AA situation.
I've been to plenty of gigs at Rod Laver where they have had a split GA. I think even Andre Rieu is going to have one too. :p

Blink wouldn't support Greenday.. It's like Metallica supporting Megadeth (or the other way around). TLE would be too good to be true, Paramore+Yves Klein Blue sounds a bit more feasible to me. Should be awesome regardless

Nah man, not even close :p
Shoegaze is generally a really ambient and noisy kind of music, whereas tame impala are just a through and through psychedelic group.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0LIO138Z-A&feature=related
That's a group called Slowdive, who were one of the most prominent shoegazing groups in the 90's (And also one of my favourite bands at the moment)

I think Green Day are fairly decent live, and i also think Tame Impala are just a masive borefest. Does that mean i have a poor taste in music? No. We can't exactly call Tool, Metallica, Dream Theater, Gyroscope, Hendrix, Satriani, Foo Fighters and the like poor taste in music. It just comes down to personal preference.
I'd much prefer to watch an international band with over 20 years live experience who know how to get a crowd going over a band who is just breaking out and standing still looking at their pedals anyday.

hahah exactly.
Yeah, the new album. At first i was like 'next song, next song, next song, oh theres no songs left, thats a shame', but its grown on me, after about 2 months. Really digging the title track at the moment.
Some of the stuff sounds stolen, like church on sunday and the static age, or misery and one of the viva la gloria's (I think?), or horseshoes and handgrenades and that hives song that tle also ripped from haha.
But yeah, its not a bad album. Green Day have grown on me alot recently. If you're willing to find new styles and bands to listen to, then that can only be a good thing.
Tame Impala however, yeah they are good at what they do, but I still dont get what the hypes about. Maybe they will prove me wrong.

I'm pretty sure it won't be short stack supporting as they have a tour starting halfway through green days.
So in the living end email the other day they had tourdates for europe which ended on the 2nd of december. greenday starts on the 4th. would they fly home and go straight into a support gig? or am i just being hopeful

Yea but the Gyro email also hinted something about another tour ( they diddn't hint if they were headlining or supporting though ).

Gyro are better then greenday i reckon haha. The only reason i ever thought about go to greenday was the chance of them supporting:woot:

just rather see someone else support, like a lesser know decent band that could get a well deserved push from such a big support slot.

Isn't it a bit late? Surely we should know who the support is by now?
Still pumped for this gig.
