Hey everyone,
I wasn't really sure if this warranted an entirely new thread, but i think there might be a few people in the same situation i'm in. So, i'm starting one haha.
I recently got the Boss OC-3, and i love it to bits. I want to expand my horizons i guess you could say, and try out some new stuff. So i was wondering, does anybody have any suggestions on stuff that is fun to play on guitar with an octave pedal? Besides White Noise era living end stuff of course.
;)

I usually have my OC-2 set up in my rig for most gigs.
I have it there incase we do some white stripes, I use it for like 2 notes in smells like teen spirit, umm some of the synth parts from Killers songs I play on guitar I use my Oc-2 also.

There's that cool riff from the Quantam of Solace (Bond) theme song.
It's pretty awesome with the octave on it...

Haha I was waiting for something like this...
"OMG How Do We Know is so awesome I'm gonna get an octave pedal"
"Well I know one song... Now what the hell do I do with it?"
No offence intended at all, just I had a feeling straight away

and i was waiting for somebody to assume and say something like that. haha :)
I didn't get it for How Do We Know, in fact, i think that songs fairly overrated. I got it because in my opinion it can thicken up a solo alot, and i've got tons of riffs lying around the place that would go well with an octave pedal. Obviously, the White Noise album was a major influence, but how many people here can say that they have their own equipment, thats not influenced by any other factor. You've got people here that have gretsch's, 'just because Chris Cheney has one'. That's the main reason. But they will go on to say, 'i like their tone, the feel, the shape, they look cool'. We all know the real reason they've got one though.
Not having a go at anyone, as that would be hypocritical, but i'm just pointing it out, i'm fairly sure you would have something 'influenced' by Chris Cheney or one of your favourite guitarists. Whether it be equipment, or a riff, or a song, or something trivial like hair colour or something.

several thousand dollars / pounds is a lot of money to fork out on something 'just because chris cheney has one.' It's not quite the same as buying the same clothes. Fair enough, I wouldn't have discovered how awesome gretsch guitars are without Chris- but the reason I was willing to fork out the mullah was because they sound absolutely phenomenal. We're all tone junkies here, and we all have our own ideas as to what we want, some of us want chris' tone exactly, others want to take their own spin on it- and if having a couple of Chris' pedals on your pedal board, or indeed owning a gretsch helps you achieve that (or basically an identical setup - Fritz), then so what?

That's all a good point, till you remember the reason why Chris first started playing gretsch guitars....
Because he was borderline obsessed with the stray cats, and wanted to be just like Brian Setzer ;)
So if it worked for him..... :p

And Brian Setzer got a gretsch cuz he wanted a guitar just like Eddie Cochrane's.

HAHA I did that! but then I stopped and thought 'what am I actually gonna use that pedal for?'
So I put off buying one however I think I might pick one up because our band is starting to write our own songs and it could come in very handy for solo's and riffs.

Just bought one! Makes my guitar sound like it's from another planet and that's definitley not a bad thing!
Gonna try and play Icky Thump on it. This thing is going to be great fun to make riffs and licks on.

Hahha... everytime I read about one of you folks getting a Boss OC-3, I think about Fritz's comment about how BOSS is gonna be tripped out about how OC-3 sales have sky rocketed since July 2008.

I have an electro-harmonix octave multiplexer. its a pretty neat pedal and you can get alot of different octave sounds out of it. Its worth checking out.

I've never really been a fan of EHX pedals.... i've got no idea why. I guess i just don't like the look of them? If i had to get one, i'd probably get a POG.
pogs effing rock!! mostly because its like the OC-2, sounds a little more synthy BUT you can play effing chords :woot: AND it tracks amazingly anywhere down the fret with NO glitching!!! ...adds to pedals to buy (well rebuy, i had one before and sold it in an 'i dont use this enough to warrant having it' type thing.. now i can afford to do that :D
i looove EHX and thier weird awesomness. and they look TOPS in person!! but yeah alot of thier pedals are lame i rection :)

Ahh... How I love my OC2.
I wish I had some way of recording this riff thing I'm working on. It's really simple, nothing complex at all.. but I think it's kinda catchy and I'd love to get some opinions on it.
Might try and swindle my mates mini recorder off him soon and try and upload it to somewhere.
Anyone written any tunes around the octave?

A few of my bands songs are octave based.... :) although they weren't originally written that way, i just kicked it on one day, played the riff as single notes, and went SHIT that sounds good!
one of the songs sounds a bit synthy tho, so i'm thinking of getting an octave up fuzz and then playing the riff down the octave.... kinda confusing, i know, but it'll make sense one day!

Also on topic, Some of Shifflets parts on Wasting light have a Micro POG for octave down going on, Arlandria springs to mind

Really? I never picked any octave-ing up? Other than Smear using a Baritone guitar to add octaves (or so I read)..

Octave down ;)
and yeah main riff in Arlandria and the outro over the top. has the micro pog doing octave down but he plays higher up on the neck
Good spotting heal! Micro Pog still sounds like something I need. I wouldn't use all the POG, but just having something tracks so well to use for fattening up lower riffs (such as audioslave's "cochise") would be a nice compliment to the oc-2.
