Still haven't gotten around to posting about the show last night - it rocked really really... good. Best TLE i've seen, period. They're in fine form indeed. Hold Up was a nice suprise along with Into The Red yesterday! Saw Chris and Andy after the show and stuff and the guy was deceptive and told us he had to lock up the parking thing and they'd come out the front door but they cam out the back door... yeah... I thought he was tryin' to help - he seemed a nice fella, but yeah. Scotty left early, apparently not feeling too well?

Last night after the show, I think I was the only one who wasn't injured in some way, but I woke up feeling like crap.
I wasn't injured and am still fine now :P
I have never got badly hurt at a gig, hardly ever get bruises or anything either.

Saw Chris and Andy after the show and stuff and the guy was deceptive and told us he had to lock up the parking thing and they'd come out the front door but they cam out the back door...
Around what time did they come out? I waited til about 11 but then I had to go. But I heard Andy drove off and didn't talk to people?

Anyway, like everyone else said, the gig was amazing, I reckon last night's gig was the best I've ever been to.

I have 2 bruises on either side of my stomach and they're symmetrical hahaha.
My neck is fucked, my elbows are pretty sore, and my ears are still ringing!

I had that feeling after Falls 04. I think it had something to do with the fact that I was surrounded by loud, live music for most of the day, three days in a row.

Just got back. Just some quick facts because I'm stuffed and sweaty:
- Thanks to Megan for driving and waiting from 5pm with me in the line
- Saw May, Beth, Luke, Pete (dark_ream), and some girls from the 67 Special boards who knew Kristen and Kim, who also went to Bendigo last week
- It was my most expensive TLE concert - cost me $90 - I'll explain/whinge later
- Got on barrier, thanks to Megan and girl from 67 Special boards saving me a spot
- No EP Medley or Monday :( Played Tainted Love though
- Mel I saw a barbie doll near the mixed desk and some white thing behind that - was that your thing?

Colezy
09-23-2006, 02:34 AM
Mel's "thing" was the framed pic of Andy that she drew.
Do you know which band the barbie belongs too? I saw it at both Tassie shows, except in Hobart, there was a can of Spam next to it aswell!

Not sure who it belongs to. Off to get outta sweaty clothes now and go to bed. Speak soon! :)

That certainly is! Have a good time Camzy? I hope so! :)I had an awesome time. The $90 cost was made up by being on the barrier. I lifted my sleeves this morning to find bruises on both my elbows!

I love it when Chris looks at us when we're singing.

Bec - in response to the 21st aftershow and Andy leaving quickly: He said hey, talked with the few people that were around, I looked for Mel and the Forum crew but they'd vanished... where'd you guys go? Andy signed all the stuff that was put in front of him, I had a 2 minute chat with him and then he left.

Chris was next to his car and so naturally the group that just met Andy when down to see Chris and Chris signed everything, did photos with a few girls who wanted photos, and had conversations with everyone. I managed to talk to him about coming back to WHSC, the Stairway To Heaven mini-doodle during the show, and many more topics. Some chick came up to him and asked if he could sign her boobs (on her shirt, obviously), and he goes... "woah... what should I write... just add water?" They're all great fellas for hangin around after shows. Shortly after all that Chris headed off... Scott left heaps earlier than them though... not sure why really... Chris said he wasn't well. Anyone know about that?

Bec
09-23-2006, 01:50 PM
Ahh, thanks. I'd left by then because we weren't sure if they were even still there or not, and my parents had been waiting for me for about half an hour but I think the others might have gone around the front or something? I'm not too fussed though because we had a good chat with them on wednesday.
We were talking to Rae after the show and she also said that Scott wasn' feeling very well, I think he was sick a while ago and still hadn't really gotton over it? When we were waiting out the front we saw him drive off.

Bahaha... just add water

Last night was awsome, my ears are still screwed lol. I got on the barrier as well right near chris, so the only pics i got were of him. All i can say is that Can The Living End get any better? i got a few bruises and there was this drunk couple behind me screaming and the guy sounded like a friggen girl, he was tall so i got alot of hits to the head near the end from his elbows. i was spewin tho cause at the end me and my friend had to rush off to get the last tram, so i didnt get any merch, so that was the only shit thing i guess. THe tram stopped at crown anyway so we ended up gettin a taxi in the end! i also noticed the barbie sitting on the tin as well...i was like wtf!

Just woke up from last night and there aren't any bruising but I'm sore all over. I think I was the shortest there (157 cm) and I managed to get 3 rows from the barrier. Then this dude was congratulating me on being there because I was shorter than him and he let me through. Amidst all the shoving, hitting and smelly armpits, people can be really nice. Oh and I also crowd surfed for the first time earlier on because I needed to go to the bathroom!

Yea, it was my friend, then me and then u and those other girls, cause i remember at the start u came along and we made room. And yes,,,i was the short one lol and there was a chick who came along and put her hand on the barrier between us, and i was like thinking to myself PO lol she was a pushy one that one, i think u probably half saved me going off to the side lol, so thanks! Nothing beats getting up front in front of your fav band singing so loud...how cool was it when he would lean over us or give us the eye lol. U will say hello to next time aye lol

So cam what happened to your tix?

The girl behind me was a little pissed off, but I had been waiting since 5pm out the front and was only late getting in because of stuff up with my ticket! I was there with my friend to the right of me. The girls to the right of her we met outside, and were at the Bendigo gig the other week that I went to.

No probs for saving you getting pushed off the side! We worked hard to get the barrier (well also thanks to people like you for letting me in), so we had to stay there. No words can describe when Chris looks at you when you're at a gig like that.

At least the people behind us trying to get to the front kept it all nice and comfy :P

EDIT: Did anybody else notice the teccy with the "Don't get emo?" teeshirt. I thought it was a classic. But then another one of the teccies looked emo, and his pants were tight but too low and he kept grabbing on to them.

But yea like you said you cant describe it when they look at you, and hey remember the roadie guys, with all thier ASS CRACKS...like seriously, they rnt plumbers!

I would have complained about it earlier lol if i had thought that. Well my friend was tired and she doesnt like that sort of music lol but i was trying not to squash my camera and her bag that was on the floor, and singing wise i didnt know the RR, not much of EOF but i sang to TLE of course! until i lost my voice and couldnt hear myself lol, in the end chris's vioce sounded like a chip monk to me lol and yea that ass crack thing, i was like OMFG lol i saw some guy get out of a cab earlier and he had worse than that...And there was a guy that was fixing stuff, he had like massive tatts and his pants were past his ass

I personally felt that the sound coming out from the speakers isn't that great on the 22nd. Like I couldn't hear the vocals clearly and also when Chris does his solo with the whole band playing at the same time too.

But tainted love was amazing....the jazz bit by Chris and Scott was awesome!

I don't know how you guys can stand standing in front with all the annoying ppl trying to bounce their way in, or purposely knock you constantly just to piss u off so they can take your place

Plus if you yell out to the band they can hear you and stuff.

Dude, if for nothing else, being so close that they look at you is worth it alone!
When Andy looked at me and smiled I just died on the inside. So many times he'd be pounding away on drums and we'd be looking at each other, it's magic.
Then there's the bonus of being able to catch things. *cause Chris' pick*
Yeah, people push, but you can just as easily push back. I fought for my place and won. I didn't line up for 8 hours to be muscled out of it!

I just wanna say, thanks so much for posting pics from last night guys. My photos didn't come out so well, so this is heaven for me. Now I can look at something other than the images in my mind!

P.S. Jodez, I'm pretty sure you were near me. I didn't see you, but I'm sure I saw your camera. You were the only one of the girls to my left who had a digital camera. I was right in front of Chris.

The Dying Start

We all know that this is an anti-crowdsurf and pit cirlce/"wanker curve" forum, but i'd also just like to add another concert element to the list of things that really fuck me off.

Why do people need to raise their hand and wave it back and forth to the drum beats? Often missing the beats completely after one or two goes. If something awesome happens, or you wanna celebrate the end of the song, up goes the arm. Up goes the metal horns. Whatever. That's good. But the whole swinging them round like a monkey on crack is fucking retarded, and besides the fact that i sit there thinking about how much of a dick you're making of yourself, you swing them back over your head without any concern for my face which you've just gouged. You then turn around and apologise for being a douche, and then one song later you forget that you just made a cock of yourself and start doing it again.

And another one i noticed when i wasn't actually on the barrier...Chris leans out towards to crowd during the solo. The front row leans out and generally points or gives the horns. Some lamer might actually try to touch the guitar...but you always get one of those, but then i witnessed another phenomenon...the girl that's 3 rows back and see's chris creep one step closer to the barrier and thus reaches through those first three rows. Why? Chris can't see you, you can't reach him, all you're doing is putting your arm in everyones face. You're a knob.

The end.

I'm in a shitty mood too, so if i think of more i'll be back pronto.

I'm with you on ALL of that, Glenn. Especially about the girl who is three rows back. It shits me. Like you said, he can't see you and you can't touch him and he probably wouldn't want to anyway. Plus you piss off everyone infront of you. Why not just get on with watching the awesomeness of the guitar playing and let yourself and everyone else have a happy gig :)

Yea Chris did that a few times as well towards me, he also did like a little cheeky evil grin and brow rise it was funny. And yes its awsome to be at the front when they look and you and can hear you, i gave a thumbs up at one point and he smiled lol. Ppl mite try and take over, like one chick did with her hand, but b/c your there your determined not to give up your spot.

What were you wearing? I mite remember seeing you, how many ppl u reckon u were from the end of the barrier?it was my friend, i was 2nd, then Cam and a few ppl he knew

Also the thing i hate about moshes (besides that im short) is that really tall people (most usually guys) can be inconsiderate b/c they dont give a shit if they smash u in the head with their elbows, i had this guy who decided he could rest his elbows on my shoulders and then all of a sudden his hands would fly in the air while he was bashing in my head, and it was the same bloody guy how was smoking and blowing it into my hair, its not the smell that worried me, it was the fact he was drunk and had a lit cigarette less than a centimetre away from my hair....

Agree with Jodez on all that. I had arms into my shoulders, bottles pushed into my back and the smoke too. Guess this usually happens at gigs, but it's still annoying.

We all know that this is an anti-crowdsurf and pit cirlce/"wanker curve" forum, but i'd also just like to add another concert element to the list of things that really fuck me off.
Dude, you're in a moshpit. If you don't like it then don't go in the fuckin thing. Jesus. I know exactly what I'm getting into when I go in the mosh, and I have a great time. I don't understand why people know that in the mosh people will crowdsurf and make circle pits, yet they go in anyway and complain about it.

haha, can't wait for Glenn's reply to this. :p

Firstly mosh pits are getting more and more over the top and they happen at gigs of all genres. There IS a certain point where they go too far as well. If people have lined up for hours to get on the barrier, they shouldn't have to put up with feet to the head and dickheads running into each other all night.

ELISA
09-24-2006, 12:17 PM
But the whole swinging them round like a monkey on crack is fucking retarded...

Bahahahaha! Come to think of it, there was this lady who was doing that the whole night and she wasn't even in the mosh. I don't think it bothered anyone though because she was short. It was hilarious just watching her.

I agree with you! But just because you shouldn't have to, doesn't mean you won't have to put up with it. If you're willing to put up with it, then go to the barrier, if not, then don't. It's so simple. :p

Dude, I'm there to watch a band. You'd think everyone else would be there for the same reason. I have no problem with moshpits or moshing. It's just a new form of "dancing" although to label it thus is probably a stretch. And as for the circle pits...I haven't ever seen one in a mosh pit. Because everyone in the mosh is all together and enjoying the music. The Circle pits tend to erupt towards the outer edges of the main crowd bulk, when people who don't necissarily want to be getting crushed and sweaty stand. You know, like the younger girls and the older members of the audience who want to see the band they paid to see. So when some fat cunt starts a runup and clean bowls half of them i would think they'd be pretty pissed off. How is knocking people over a fun way of enjoying a concert? That's thuggery. In fact it's assault...if you did it in the street you'd be arrested, surely. I don't think it's fair that people who don't want to be attacked should have to stand on the back wall of the venue just because "you should know" that if you go near the mosh there are going to be idiots trying to knock you out.

And i don't think i need to rebutt crowd surfing...it's banned in most venues and unfortunately it's rarely policed. If you do it you're a bloody idiot. There are signs up saying no crowdsurfers, so i shouldn't expect them when i go in the mosh, i should expect the opposite. If i go to a pub with a no smoking bar i shouldn't expect to have to put up with smoke just coz it's a pub. I don't get how jumping up on top of people and then kicking people in the head as you ride the crowd to the front is going to help you enjoy the music any more anyway. It's just an absolutely typical display of anti-social behaviour. It serves absolutely no purpose other than being a show off to your mates. Why don't you go vandalise a fence instead and let me whatch my favourite band without getting concussion.

I see what you're saying here, but it's still bullshit.

If like saying if you don't want your car stolen then don't ever leave it (locked) in a street in Gagebrook/other dodgy suburb. Blaming the innocent party when its the other people doing the wrong thing is crap.

People need to take responsibility for their actions and understand that hurting people is NOT cool - even in a mosh pit.

Like Cameron I tend to stay at the sides of the mosh these days. Last Friday I was pretty much to the side, but managed to be dragged by a bunch of tools (that weren't even doing the circle pit thing, they were just pushing everyone one way then the other), pushed to the ground and kicked in the head, before some nice people who, like me were previously busy watching their favourite band and trying to mind their own business, picked me up from the ground before i was trampled to death.

Generally (and this is more often the case a TLE shows) mosh pits aren't full of tools, there is just a few people either too drunk or just plain knobs trying to start something out of nothing. In my opinion these people should be kicked out immediately, no questions asked.

This sort of behaviour is never acceptable. Even in mosh pits. It might happen quite a lot at these sort of events, but it never should be tolerated. And saying - 'you should expect it, or don't go in the pit' is just encouraging this sort of behaviour.

Credit to the security at the Hobart show last week, they were actively looking for people doing the wrong thing. I don't know what company these guys work for, but I always see these guys at the bigger gigs I go to. Every gig they're at I know I'll be safe, seriously, these guys are the best!!

Like Cameron I tend to stay at the sides of the mosh these days.It sucks that we have to only go on the sides of the barrier, even though we may want to go in the middle, just because of these tools. And then even though we're sensible enough to do this, we still get stuck in all the crap.

I'm glad you at least agree with the sentiment. But saying "just don't go in there" is not how it should play out. It's great that you're willing to put up with it, just coz it's the done thing. But it pisses most of us off. It's funny that you used the "just don't go there" line though. My partner is in her final year of a teaching degree and she was telling me the other day that during one of her lectures they were discussing a correct course of action if a child was playing on the monkey bars and later reported to them that he or she was being bullied by other kids on the play equipment. One of the student teachers actually said "I'd tell the child that they should go play elsewhere. Just don't play on the monkey bars if you don't want to get bullied". I can tell you right now that this approach was ruled out as entirely inappropriate by all other student teachers, and the lecturer. It doesn't solve any problems at all. "Just don't go there" is a rediculous argument.

Ah so it seems all melbourne living end fans over the age of 18 have been way to lazy to post, or its another thread that i dont seem to see.

Anyway back to fridays gig.

Palace is a far better venue than festy hall, just a better size for tle i reckon.

Anyway played a pretty good set, we had end of the world (out of hold up/eow). Unfortunately no EP medley either which was a bummer.

Highlights
End of the world
Tainted Love, first time id seen either of these live.

Lowlights
None, great band.

Of the last few shows, it seems that all ages stuff new stuff goes down awesome, whereas at 18+ its old stuff all the way. I personally like both, but friday when they played Nothing Lasts Forever wasnt too much cheering at all.

As has been said before, the newly added bits of improv sounded great.

If I could have one criticism, it would be that the way of late that songs get to the middle almost stop and chris chats a bit, then it gets back into it. Its been like that for a while for West End Riot. But it seemed to be moreso in general this tour.
Im personally more of a fan of just jamming through songs, like the way they play til the end.

Anyway thats my rant.

Again another great show, and tribute to how great a band they really are.

Whens the next tour....?

Not soon enough! They're playing at pyramid rock but after then I dunno when we'll get to see them again after that.
I agree that new stuff goes down really well at all ages (I wouldn't know about over 18s), but personally I'd love it if they played more of their older stuff as well.. But I'm not too fussed, I'm happy I got to see them play at all!

Though it would have been awesome to hear the EP medley again, or a full song from the EP. I asked Scott on wednesday if they could play From Here On In, and he said that it was possible, but they didn't. Ahh well, maybe another time.

A lot of people have been saying that they prefer the Palace over Festival Hall. I was talking to Rae after Wednesday's show and she said that they much prefer playing smaller venues too, the reason they played Festival Hall was because it was a goal they had set out to achieve. Now that they've played there, they'll go back to player smaller venues.

Thats awsome to hear. Its WAY better at a smaller venue.

And about mosh's , i found b/c i was at the front, there were to particular ppl, a guy and a girl who crowd surfed more then 5 times each, some guy like wearing a suit jacket thing and a girl wearing a red tee and has short hair, they think they are so cool, and the guy went to grab something and go for chris, thankfully they only got dragged out of our side once, the rest was the middle, but im not the strongest or tallest person and to have someones body to try and support to get them over is hard, its stupid. But yea....If u dont get to the front, well thats tough, get there earlier or something, dont ruin other ppls nights, and there was a circle fight at fridays show. i just dont get why ppl do that for. i remember there was one at the fest hall show on the 19...They r stupid!

To cdejonge and Jodez,
You guys may have been a little further away than I thought. I'm not sure how many people I was from the end. I was right in the middle. I was wearing a white hoodie with black sleeves and a black hood. I was right at the front of the line outside. We lined up from midday, thinking that the doors were opening at 5:30. Stupid of us, no one else turned up for hours.
If it helps, I was one of the 4 girls going the dorky dance during Roll On. The two girls I met from Adelaide started it at the Adelaide concert and it made Chris laugh, it made him laugh on Friday night, too, so it's all good.

Oh, and I hated the smoking, too. I don't mind if people smoke, but when they make you inhale it too it gets on my nerves. When we were lining up some half stoned bloke rocked up at about 8 and asked us how long we'd been there, meanwhile blowing all the smoke from his joint in our faces. Not cool.

On this debate thinger, I tend to wave my arms like a bit of a loon, but I'm very conscious of other people. The only time I was rough was when people were trying to push their way in front. I didn't hit anyone with my arms. And I keep to the beat, thank you. =P
I agree on the part about being a few rows back, though. I copped it quite a bit from people behind me. My friend was purposely hit in the face several times by a guy behind her. The reason I go nuts mostly is because whenever I'm in a mosh i make sure I go early enough so I'm in front, so I can be. If I was a few rows back I'd probably be a little more conserved. People should be a more conscious of other people, but I don't expect they'll change.
I know when I go into a mosh I'm gonna get hurt and I'm gonna get bruises, and I'm cool with that.
Circle pits I think are stupid, and so is crowd surfing. It's so dangerous. I had someone's full body weight come down on my head on Friday and for a second there I was scared my neck would snap it was pushed so far forward.

Bec

I asked them on myspace if they could play it at pyramid rock, so maybe if enough people ask them they just might play it. It's not too unreasonable a song to ask for. Scott seemed like he was seriously considering it when I asked him on wednesday and it's pretty well known since it's on the compliation as well as the EP, so if there gonna play an old one that'd be a good one to go for.

Wow, that was a pretty good discussion about mosh behaviour. All my opinions that boiled up as I read certain things have been aired already :p. I tend to agree with Glenn and Sarah's comments.

Something that has stuck in my mind was a quote by the drummer from The Strokes, during an interview on Triple J, when he was just bemused as to how their music had such a violent effect on some people. He seemed really disappointed that the music was being taken the wrong way. I can't find the link, but it's on the J's website somewhere.

i was at the bottom of the stairs. i was surprised the video didn't come out all wonky because i had some fucking metro next to me shaking his finger and dancing ass around and bumping into me, i wanted to push him down the stairs.

I was probably 3 steps down from you.

Gig last night = fucking awesome.
More stories to come - gotta go to work, and I got some piccy's too. They didn't say anything about cameras but as people tend to mosh at TLE's concerts, it made it difficult for cameras :p I'll tell you about my new friends too :)
ATD was better than Live at the Chapel - I'll say that for sure. That used to be my favourite version but last night beat the record - Andy is now officially better than Trav :p

Us forumers passed time last Thursday at the Palace by making her a card. On the inside it said "I don't know enough about the things you do. I don't know enough to say I really know you. But I've already fallen in love with you and if you knew, what would you do?" :)

Hehe I asked her after the show if she liked it, she goes "I'm considering showing it to the boys and saying 'those girls appreciate me a hell of a lot more than you do!'"

And I wrote like a 5 line message on there too. There wasn't much space left when I was through!

But it looked really awesome. Goldie made a really nice front and Alina drew a mudcake on the back.

The shows were fantastic as well. I had an amazing time... even if the repercussions haven't been so great. I think it's worth it.

It was great meeting anyone who I met!

Man. I just got home from Newcastle. What a gig. I'm somewhat lost for words. Amazing show. I was *this* close to getting a setlist, but the guy next to me got it so I don't know, maybe it'll surface..

The last two songs were Tainted Love and West End Riot. And they opened with Til The End. Everything in between becomes blurred.

When the roadie brought out Chris' VB for E-Boogie the crowd started chanting that drinking song - "he's a piss-pot he's true blue" or something like that? The crowd was urging him to skull it anyway. He made some comment about not yet because he was fully sober. But sure enough after the beer slide he stood up front stage and skulled his VB.

Oh, and we had a massive singalong to Waltzing Matilda. Fair dinkum.

Jolly good show chaps!

Ah yeah, could have had a bit of a forum meet...
Yeah that was my first time to newy for a big gig, everyone was so nice hey... I told a few people to stop by the forum that I met so hopefully they will join up and post a bit of a review and/or photos. The girl I was next to was taking some really great photos.
The security were really nice too.

Disease
10-10-2006, 01:52 PM
Yeah, the security were really good.. I was actually very surprised at how easily they pulled my mate out at the front. He's 18 and not very small.. but they just lifted him straight out no troubles. I was impressed.

Nice people all around, although there was one girl who got annoyed at me because I wasn't giving her breathing space. WTF? It's a moshpit.. it's not as if I was even pushing her around or anything. And she actually did have a bit of space in front of her. Eh. It was a damn good night though.

Damn, Shellharbour is further away than I thought. And traffic sucks, as do the street signs, that take you the long way there. Anyway, Shelley's is a pretty cool venue - with several tiers meaning that everyone gets a great view of the stage. All in all, a good night! Even if we had to leave before the band came out...

Setlist:

'Til The End
Roll On
We Want More
Who's Gonna Save Us?
What's On Your Radio?
All Torn Down
Into The Red
Nothing Lasts Forever
End Of The World - including a call & response jam in the middle, plus what sounded like the James Bond theme!
Second Solution
Waltzing Matilda
E-Boogie - with all the bells and whistles
Long Live The Weekend
Prisoner Of Society

Wake Up - Scott was AWOL at the start of the encore: Chris said he'd probably gone to the pub, and asked if anyone could play bass :p. Then he and Andy played a little bit of jazz until Scott came back.
Tainted Love - including Smoke On The Water
West End Riot - during Chris' introductions, Scott got into a water fight with the crowd, after he took security's role of splashing water at people, haha.

...and then I got home at 4am! Damn long drive.

Caity
10-14-2006, 06:20 PM

Aaron
10-14-2006, 06:38 PM
Did James go to Shellharbour? 'Cause that's the gig I was talking about in that post above :p. But we waited around a bit afterwards, because a friend went backstage, and I then had to drop people home via the city.
