i don't think he has electromatics, mainly 6120's.
i wouldn't mind upgrading from an electromatic to a 6120 though :p but it wouldn't make me play any better
Fritz
09-12-2006, 10:10 PM
Hey. Yeah I have 6 identical black 6120. The real deal...
Was thinking of selling one for about $2500
Kevin
09-12-2006, 10:13 PM

dwayne12
09-12-2006, 10:32 PM
Armed Robbery? hahahaha
I found one on eBay in Melbourne ages ago that was $800 and black.. forgot what type though.. just a 'basic' one though...? but anyway good luck with it... I'll be in your position on 2 or so years time.

how come all you guys find gretsch's for sale but all i see are behinger and all those brands
Fritz
09-14-2006, 01:05 AM
the cheapest real real gretsch hollow would be an annie.
My advice is grab one from the states (ebay) and ship it over here. Should work well out for under $3k

really? ive never heard anyone say that. personally i think the falcon shits over an annie. but thats just my opinion. and as i said before, its all up to YOU. if you prefer an annie over a falcon, or any other guitar for that matter, then go for it :)

Well thats it innit'
I'd prefer an Epiphone emperor II than either of those guitars, but that isn't really what matters.
You could speak about "better" guitars til everyone is blue in the face, chances are every guitar mentioned gets shat on, yet every guitar probably also does the shitting on. It is just gunna go around in circles.
Nothing is as fulfilling as going and playing every guitar you can get your hands on, then deciding for yourself which is the right one for you. That way, at the end of the day you know you have chosen the right guitar and you have the piece of mind that you have the best guitar for you even if someone else says it is shit. I don't know why people get uptight when someone else has a negative opinion about a piece of gear they own. Unless they are trying to justify there own purchase... if you have played as many guitars as possible and chosen the one you like best you dont have to justify anything.
Guitars aren't mathematical equations, there won't be a right or wrong answer, more expensive doesn't mean better or remotely there abouts, a guitar will only sound as good as the guitarist who is playing it.

hmmm i just a quick story. we are doing work experience for school at the moment and im at a recording studio and the guy who owns the place is apparantly a big name in the industry for recording and he was telling us about how he gets good deals and stuff and i said so if i mention your name down at so and so will i get a better price, and he goes nah i will just come with you, buy it for the best price possible then give it to you (aka i pay him obviously). then i was like how much discout do you think you could get on like a $4000-$5000 guitar and he goes oh probably 30%-40%!! and now i know him, guess who wont ever pay full price for anything :D ME.
hmmmm a nice 6120 or a falcon? :D

09-22-2006, 03:41 PM
There'll probably be a million of us kicking ourselves after hearing that but that's a new thought to consider. If that guy can just walk into a music store and his sheer presence can slash 30-40% off a guitar, does that mean that if we're good enough, we can actually bargain 25% off the marked price and the place will be still making money...?
Kevin
09-22-2006, 04:09 PM
i'd say that guy has made enough purchases at the place, or is well enough known there, to be given discounts.
also the owner of the music store probably gets a discount at the recording studio, so they've got a good business relationship too.
as for taking 25% off and still be making money, yeah it's probably possible, i have no idea of the profit margins on musical equipment though

hmmm thats if you are good enough :D but i dont know. some retailers have like different prices. like fender, they sell the guitar to the store for like 1000 and then the store sells it for 2000. i can get 30-40% off the 2000. and its not just guitars, its music gear in general so im so stoked!!

I don't wanna hi-jack the thread, but I've actually got some Gretsch guitars I'm keen to move on- I just don't have the cash to keep them all.
I've got a Jet Firebird, 2005 model, bigsby and filtertrons, and a 2004 6196 Cadillac Green Country Club with twin dyansonics. Both are really great guitars, and I'm selling them pretty damn cheap.
I'm not sure if it's cool to post prices on the site cause I know this isn't a 'for sale' section or anything, but feel free to PM or email me on iwontforgetthisone@hotmail.com if you want some info.
Cheers,
Alistair

do you wind back the whammy bar when closing the case? for a while i kept it in that position and the case would put a tiny bit of pressure on it, enough to make my guitar out of tune the next day, but folding it back solved the problem.
it was annoyingly obvious once i figured it out.

10-05-2006, 04:46 PM

Where did you get the country club from?
LMAO, good call on that Sammas. CJ, dude, i wouldn't have paid more that $500 for that electromatic hollow body. Not even with the $60 TKL case. Well, maybe, $515. For almost a grand, that poor kid could have gotten a used Anni or even a Tennessee Rose! ah well, it's one thing ripping random stranger on ebay off, another duping fellow TLE members. whatever though.
I got an electromatic solid and they're not bad. the PUPS stink, though. I had them replaced with TV Jones Classics and other mods and it's great! no complains on my side.
alistair
10-06-2006, 05:23 PM
Where did you get the country club from?
It's from a friend in the states.
2003/2004 model, post fender, Twin dyna's, imperials, and as far as I know a solid spruce top. I had it strung up with flats for a while and it sounded very trad jazz, but it's now got Thomastik bebop hybrid strings on it, and on the Bridge pickup its got a lot of bite- does a good ACDC.
killer rockabilly sound too, I can just never get used to single coils (even though these are very un-single coilish single coils)
