Just saw it on Today Tonight that Cold Chisel will be playing one last gig ( at the V8 supercars final ? in December ) and the sign behind them showed "with The Living End Grinspoon Sneaky Sound System and The Presets". Sorry i can't post anymore info but ill track it all down now.

Yeah sure

Here is the site where all is revealed (http://www.v8supercarevents.com.au/sydney/entertainment.htm)

And here is a picture of ANZ stadium, to put it to scale (http://www.anzstadium.com.au/Events/SeatingPlan.aspx)

The GOOD news is anyone can NOW upgrade to just a silver pass. It originally had to be diamond or platinum, but the organisers changed there minds and have decided that all that will be needed on day is a Silver Grandstand ticket. I personally think it's worth the $50 upgrade

Bloody awesome gig. There weren't enough people in the Hot Zone section so they let most of the people from the GA section to come in. This was straight after Grinspoon's section so after a bit of argy bargy getting through the gates, got to a good position (you could have stood anywhere and got a good view so that was excellent considering height issues) and then Living end came out. Rocked the joint as usual (consdieering they ARE my favourite band anyway), played a stock standard 40 minute set:

Raise The Alarm, Roll On, Who's Gonna Save Us, Second Solution, Moment In the Sun, Prisoner of Society How Do We Know, White Noise, West End Riot

The middle was a bit hazy but i don't think i missed anything. Cold Chisel was fckn ace as well, watching middle aged men dance impressively was pretty good in itself, let alone the intensity of Barnesy's voice.

Overall, Living End will always be Living End, Cold Chisel definitely impressed me more than just a 'pub rock band hitting an easy beat with whiskey dried vocals". I think Barnsey had a large insulated mug of coffee for the gig for the vocal chords. That or pure cocaine.

That's so sad to see that they HAVE TO play same songs no matter what year/country/current album it is. I tried to talk to Chris about it (maybe even twice :p) but he has nothing new to answer - in Australia they should play hits that definitely will appeal to audience and in Europe it's necessary to play same old songs because people know it better. :ermm: Closed circle.
I hope there'll be the day when songs from current and future albums will become more popular than POS/SS/ATD/WER batch.:innocent:

Haha I know exactly what you mean. Because we're pretty good fans of the band, we can easily predict what songs they're going to play. I had some good friends around me that night and they asked me, "Are they going to play ATD!? It's your favourite song!" to which I answered, "Nah, it's like 8 minutes long, they won't put it in". After sayign that, I realised how creepy knowing this sort of information it is.

But it seems logical they do play that. They sort of ARE a support band in this situation and I've never seen a support band who's been allocated a 40 minute slot play something obscure and out there before: unless they have only one album to draw music from. I expected them to play Hey Hey Disbeliever for kicks and giggles but hey, 40 minutes to impress and give a good time, play your hits. And I'm quite sure it's a sentiment that mightn't be held in the forums, but I acutally truly enjoy the hits the most naturally anyway.

yeah, you are right. They play to suit where/what the situation is. Which is why I am so over having to see them play at festivals in Tassie. Given, they have played some corkers here at festivals (Rip it Up, the 2nd performance of RTA & HDTK), it's pretty much standard setlist territory. And I agree, their hits are quite enjoyable, but I guess I've seen them too many times to get all omg over hearing the same standards surrounded by thousands of drunk morons.

okay, enough of tired and grumpy me.

The upgrade people got to get the better Hot Zone spots.

We got in just as Grinspoon came on and managed to get ourselfs to the front but after then it was difficult.

All the older people kept complaining because people were getting in the way of their 5 year old daugter etc through Grinspoon and TLE...

Yeh I got a much better view of the boys. Couldn't be bothered going in deeper but we stood behind this guy in a wheelchair so we had a very unobstructed view. Was good to get into the living end without having to prop the elbows up for once, got a bit of a dance happening with my friends as well.

Glad I didn't buy the upgrade seeing as we got into the hotzone for free

i was thinking the exact same thing. when i see them do their own concert, i love it when they thrown in things like carry me home, end of the world etc, but for a 40 min set, they chose it well. it was the songs that everyone there knew, that they could just slam out and have a flawless performance.

i got a free upgrade to the hotzone, and i was right on the barrier, i got Pat Davern's and Chris's guitar picks :woot:

Haha your quoting of me reminds me how bad my grammar gets sometimes. I really wanted them to play all torn down (yep another hit that I truly enjoy) but can't be too selfish in this situation. Everyone's just come back from high octane fast cars, something they mightn't be too keen on is a 7 minute pseudo-psychadelic jam.

Call me a bit "living under a rock" but I didn't know half of Grinspoons' songs and even though I did bop my head a bit, it still didn't equal the sort of moments you get when you're listening to a song you actually know. Wasn't TLE's gig to own so leave with everyone having a good time: play the tunes everyone know.

What does Cheney's guitar pick feel like?

Mitch-PTV
12-07-2009, 10:04 AM
im not sure what thinkness it is, it doesnt say, but is ever so slightly thicker than my Dunlop Tortex .73mm picks. its not a whole size up, it looks almost the same, but you can feel that its just a tiny bit thicker. my guess is .8ish. im pretty sure you can buy them from their online store come to think of it...

and i LOVE the break down in all torn down, but it would of been out of place, dispite how great it is.

love Grinspoon so it was great to finally see them (they only ever played 18+ gigs), not many people knew their stuff tho. it thought they were great.
