I'm going to explain myself more, so if you don't want to read it all just read the short version.

Here's the short version: my band have uploaded two songs. Check them out here (http://www.myspace.com/littlestreetband).

The long version: My band has been together for say, about 18 months now. We haven't really done a whole lot in that time except play together and have fun. We have been writing originals, but that's generally a pretty slow process with us. Anyways, January this year we started putting down some drum tracks to get some good recordings done that we were all happy with, in our home studio. We soon realised that this was all going to take a fair while, so in the meantime we decided to just record some rough live takes of some of our songs. So this is what is uploaded currently - two rough live takes of two original songs. They are incidentally two of the first originals we did with this band.

I'm interested to hear any feedback anyone has, so please please have a listen and say something.

I'd also like to point out (so you don't have to) that yes, the snare is too loud. And yes, the vocals are too soft during the bridge in The Stranger.

The Stranger was sung, written and arranged primarily by me, whereas Spilt Milk was by my guitarist. Oh, and my band's called little st. ;)

So yes, please. Do listen. :)

They sound very cool, I hear a very strong Wolfmother influce in Split Milk and The stranger sounds completely different to anything I've ever heard which is really cool.

For some reason your name reminds me of the "The Little River band" :D

Good luck with the EP!

Aha, the Wolfmother comment is interesting because none of us listen to Wolfmother, lol.

I was the one who eventually came up with the bandname (we were without one for at least 6 months).. it was actually inspired by The Whitlams' latest album Little Cloud. And I think there was something else in the room or something that had Street written on it, I dunno.. maybe it was even Maitland Street. :p

We will hopefully have gotten most of the rhythm tracks for the EP down in the next few weeks. :)

did your drummer drop his sticks in the start of the stranger? about 10-15 seconds in?

Other than that, soudns good. What's your studio set up?

lol I don't think he did.

The way we recorded those two tracks was keyboard and vocals direct in, with bass, drums and guitar all being picked up with two mics. We did that at my church, and recorded straight onto a hard drive recorder.

Our studio is a bit.. well.. there's no actual one area that's defined as our studio, lol. We all use the same basic equipment, but we've done different recordings in different houses and stuff. My drummer does his recording at his place by himself and then gives those files to me etc. We've got a far from professional setup, but we can get a relatively good sound. We're using a Tascam US-122 as a sound card, which has two inputs. We do have a mixer available to us but never really found a use for more than two mics anyhow. Of course we COULD always use more, but we managed to get an alright sound with only two and that was a lot easier. We just use a condenser and a conventional mic. I have a nice pair of B&W monitors too.
