Correction, I still have use of the Merc but still no skidz. Not pathetic, just don't want to ruin the car :p
Psh, I didn't say ruin the car, just shred some rubber. It'll be awesome. Take photos and put it on Facebook, than you can tag your boss.

She doesn't have Facebook, but still no :p
I wonder when I will get my CD. It won't happen on 22nd that's for sure! Oh well, lame mp3 for me...
Will be extra weird if I'll have returned from Aussie by the time it arrives!

So apparently my pre-order arrived super early at the address I used to live at in Aus. Either that or I ordered something I don't remember :p

So over the course of my 16 hour work day yesterday, it really hit me just how close we are to the new album.
Really crazy that in 6 days we will all be constantly spinning the album non-stop.....
also it needs to be done.
I'm Excited!

Hahaha I love you two.
I worked out that I am going to buy it off iTunes as soon as I can - 12:01am, I think (if it's on by then!) - because I don't think the CD's will have hit JB on the Friday if it's a public holiday ... I'm going to then burn the songs to a CD and then just drive around all day listening to it up loud. Best way to listen to a new album, I think!

I really hope that it does come on a little earlier.... or the cd pack arrives earlier, because I DO have to work the next day

I had mine organised to go to work - figured I could listen at lunchtime! - but STUPID PUBLIC HOLIDAY. Normally I love them, especially this one because it's our last one til Christmas, but seriously :(

Song for the lonely radio debut 18th July, second single! :)
Everything's coming up TLE :flowers:
Oh, and was Song For the Lonely one of the SM songs reworked or not? (cant be arsed reading through everything)
Loaded-Gun
07-17-2011, 01:40 AM
Well there are a few fron the SM gigs that didnt make it (postcard american town, everybody bleeds, etc.) but i dont recall song for the lonely being one, so unless its renamed?

Yeah it's an annoying time... I'll probably just wait until the morning, but that said I'm a crummy sleeper anyhow.
It's strange that it says I have to wait 13 hours though it should be only 7 (because of time difference). I wonder if it will start playing for me at australian or russian midnight? :p Anyway, it's so great that I can't wait for the night to come! Hooray!

Not sure if mentioned already, but JJJ are playing "new" TLE tonight. Of course this is JJJ, so their idea of new might mean they'll whip out PITM for the first time :p

might be "Song For The Lonely" apparently thats getting introduced to commercial radio tomorrow?

I thought that they'd air that during the interview tomorrow? But like Sarah said...it IS Triple J! :p

Universe sounded good! I missed any previous songs Triple J played though.
I'm glad the album has some "upbeat" songs, as MG and TEIJTBR were pretty serious/heavy.
I can't wait for tonight to hear the whole thing. So Triple J is playing new songs every hour tonight?

I thought the song was great but I agree about the vocal effect. That's if you're talking about the megaphone type thing in the middle? Makes it hard to defend TLE when people say "Oh, they're like Greenday yeah?"

No problems man, just making sure we're on the same wavelength. I got the impression that your musical elitism was shining through by stating what you wrote as a fact that it 'is' over done, and by not suggesting that it was your opinion that it may be over done.
I'm sure they've done it for a reason. I think i'll side with Chris, he's written plenty of hit songs in his lifetime, as opposed to all of us loungeroom critics.
mattheal
07-17-2011, 08:59 PM
Since when do I have "Musical Elitism"?

Lol. Guys, the point of this is to all have our own opinions - that's a given, no one has to specify "My opinion is ____" or "I think ______"
We all know that what we say in here is opinion - no one is professing to be an expert or to be the 'know all'.

To be honest, anybody and everybody who plays an instrument and/or who knows their stuff about equipment, has the mind capacity to therefore form their own opinions on things production wise because they have an ear for it. Inadvertently, they sometimes state their opinion, (and i use the word state loosely, sometimes its unintentional) in a way which it could be interpreted as fact, trying to get people on their bandwagon.
also, I'm just trollin, ya'llll.
matt6n
07-17-2011, 09:55 PM

Possibly a tought contender for best album yet. So amazing, and im loving the slower songs too. Amazing.
The passion and emotion in For Another Day is amazing.
In the Morning, fucking brilliant, perfect opener for the album.
Song for the lonely is gonna be a perfect single if you ask me. Hope there are some good bsides to come with it, cos with the sound of these, bsides are gonna be fucking amazing!

The only gripe i have is that it seems really compressed, and loud as hell. I guess thats the way these days though.
I had turned off The Living End, and i was pretty skeptical. But this is a pretty special album :)
Sabbz
07-18-2011, 01:20 AM
I really do not think this is new album syndrome speaking- I honestly believe that this is TLE at their best. Oh man I had a huge grin plastered across my face the whole time, this album is the best thing they've done since Roll On.
I'm going to go to sleep now and let all that brilliant music sink in. What's curious though is IMO, TEIJTBR and Machine Gun are the weakest songs on the album (which is saying something, as I still really like them!)
Away From The City should have been the first single.

I am hoping it's just because we're streaming it. I'd say the the actual album will be higher kbps and will have a deeper sound. But I have no idea what I'm talking about
After the first listen of the album my favourites would be Universe and For Another Day . Universe seems so familiar but so new. Really love the verses in that song, they just sound right. Looks like it is a good album. Well done TLE.

I cant remember having goosepimples like this since the first time I heard Wake Up. Universe has just absolutely blown me away. I'm speechless.
Something this album undoubtedly has which I think Chris has alluded to is that it has the directness and instant 'likeability' of previous albums, but it's got this whole other dimension of being able to shut your eyes and get lost in everything else that's going on underneath. As Chris put it:
"I wanted to create a wall of sound, these massive epic songs that people can sing along to, that are anthemic, but people can also lose themselves in."
For me at the moment, nowhere is that more true than in the chorus of Universe.
Chris, Scott, Andy: Thank you. You've made me feel undescribeably happy today.
Mattbound
07-18-2011, 01:42 AM
As I listened to the whole thing, I was grinning ear to ear, nearly laughing with happiness :)
I know. It's a weird feeling to be taking in some intense lyrics, and check yourself cos you realise you've broken into a grin, and your eyes feel like they're glistening like a kid at the xmas tree...
White Noise didn't have me this excited - either before or after album delivery - but fucking hell TEIJTBR is so amazing. And that doesn't give it verbal justice, but someone more articulate might do a better job.
FUCK - Great work Andy, Scott & Chris! x

Fuck me this is over and above what I expected! Loving the mix on this one! Chris' vocals and harmonies are amazing! He just keeps getting better haha. Really interesting arrangements and tones too!
I'm on the For Another Day and Universe bandwagon at the moment, but they're all killer tunes I reckon!
Honestly, I really think this is their best work by some margin so far. S.T has it's nostalgic charm for me for sure, but the songwriting isn't a patch on this stuff if I'm honest!
EPIC :D

I'm baffled, awestruck, dumbfounded by how much I'm loving this on the very first listen. Jesus Christ. My only issue is that its 11 tracks long, all seemingly short, powerful. So urgent and tight, its going to be over too soon!

Its a sound and direction I could have never predicted. Chris is becoming a mammoth songwriter.
I'm putting my hand up right now and saying this is above and beyond anything I expected this band to be capable of. Immense, just immense. I'm sticking with that word.
EDIT: thelivingvines...wow, I was trying to think who they're emulating on this album. For me, its The Who. I couldn't put my finger on it but you are spot on.

Well said man. I dunno this to me feels like TLE unrestricted. Not trying to fit themselves into whatever box they've created along the way. They're just amazing songs eh! :D

As much as it pains me to say it, this album benefits from 0 backing vocals from Scott.
Much a staple from the past, it was something they continued with on White Noise without much success. The new, expansive sound is amazing with Chris producing his best vocals ever and Scott sticking to the bass. Refreshing.

It's early days and only a few listens in, but Ride The Wave, Boy doesn't do a lot for me. Still not sure how I feel about Song For The Lonely either, will be interesting to see how it does as a single...
I feel like Away From The City, Heatwave, or United would have been better choices for singles (given that we may only see a total of three from this album, perhaps? Possibly four).
Mitch-PTV

Im loving the album! Away from the city is the stongest track IMO. they all have a "wow" factor about them tho! whether it be an aweosme riff like machine gun or heatwave, to a great chorus like united and universe.
tho i have to say that with all the hype that the guys were giving Ride the wave, i was hoping for a little more.

In The Morning I felt had pretty uninteresting lyrics but I like the music. I haven't really listened to Machine Gun since it was released the other day on their FB. Not a huge fan of either song.
Universe is a killer track I hope it is a single. I think Song For The Lonely is a pretty good choice as a single. Cheney's vocals are very impressive throughout the album.

Loving this album VERY much. Definitely a 'wall of sound'! And a good sound it is.
At the moment, I'm really enjoying:
In The Morning - love the guitar licks in this one
Resist - which I always loved since the SM gigs. Guitar riff is killer!
Universe - always been an amazing song from when I first heard it. Just a big highlight on the record.
One thing overall with this album which I'm so happy with are all of these harmonies! I'm a bit of a sucker for them so really nice to hear them coming through.
Also, For Another Day, the start really reminded me of Nothing Lasts Forever for some reason. Bit random, but just thought I'd comment on it.
So well done to the boys for such a refreshing new batch of songs. It's been great for me personally to see how the ones from the SM gigs have grown over this time.

To the people who think TLE would have ever supported Foo Fighters, you guys are just silly.
A band as big as TLE would never do a gig like that!
I am also extremely interested to see what effects Chris incorporates into the live show. It seems...for once, for the first time ever, the boys have recorded an album to record an album...without worrying about how it will sound live.

I can't get enough of 'Resist' I think it's my favourite.
One thing I can say about this album, Chris has taken his song writing to another level. I can seriously see him putting out a solo album in 2 years. We may have to wait a while for another TLE album. But if this is the last, I'm happy with this, its such a good album. Go out on a high right!

I'm so tremendously impressed with Chris' voice on this record. Not only does it sound better than ever, but his decision to go with vocal harmonies rather than resist embellishment shows a completely new side of his musical talent. They had touched on it before, but never like this. It adds a whole new dimension to listening to TLE that I never expected to hear. It makes their sound so much more complete. I'm looking forward to hearing the higher quality versions so much.

They're not rockabilly. We got over that. They still kick arse.
Trav left. Andy is different but at least as good! They still kick arse.
Second guitarist cuts Chris some fucking slack, and let's his (absolutely brilliant at the moment I'm just adding quietly) vocals come to the fore. And yes, they still fucking kick arse!

Thanks dear. I heard saw someone post about the second guitarist on Facebook a day or so before they did this gig. I thought it was just an attention seeking, chain yanking person to throw everyone into a frenzy (like some of them do!) and to start something I (we) didn't think would happen. It was weird watching it! I guess I clarified all of my questions this morning when the performance started up.
However I think about it now and realise that I shouldn't worry about every little change, stuff like this goes on during time, and now I know that it's just another thing they're trying for live set improvement/however you want to see it.
I wont let these little things 'worry' me anymore. They're my favourite band and always will be, big changes or little. Even if it is the extra touring musician! (Stop freaking me out, boys :p)

A band known for making ballsy in your face punk comes out with an album full of overproduced pop songs and everybody hates them for it, especially the long time fans.
However, I've listened to the album about 5-6 times threw now and i will definatly say it's a grower, big time! When I first heard 'In The Morning' I was like 'whoa, am I missing something here?' but now it all makes sense and I love that song, one of my favs the guys have ever put out.
This album is epic, and very professional. White Noise was kind of raw and unpolished, so it's easy to see where someone expecting to hear an album full of 'How Do We Know?' soundalikes would be dissapointed. However Im glad the band have finally realized their full potentiel by putting out an album like this. The songs are very, very well written. More so than any other album they've put out.
They've officially put the pedal to the metal and these songs show just that. The vocals, the harmonys, the lyrics, the guitar playing . . Chris is on top of his game. It's amazing to see how much they've grown in that short amount of time since White Noise was released.

Above post x2 except I will say that from the opening sequence of In The Morning, I was hooked, awestruck, overcome with joy. So good.

At the moment for me In The Morning, Resist and Universe are in a class of their own. Incredible songs!

Just putting it out there to anyone who was bitching about the 2nd guitarist. Out of anyone here, I'm prolly the most set in my ways, and I've seen alot of changes with this band over the years. I too was skeptical, but I have to say, it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the gig, or the awesomeness of this band one bit!
Besides. Tell me one aussie band you can see today that does it better or more consistantly awesome...?
So quit your bellyaching, or no TLE for you! Listen to your Aunty May
Well said May! Bloody oath they still kick arse! I think they're incompetent of not kicking arse!;)

Resist has sunk in as my favourite on the album which is kind of ironic as it's the song I least remember from the Safety Matches gig I went to. In The Morning is growing massively also. The rest are purely sensational in their own right!

I know right, there are no words to describe it! To me it sounds completely different to what TLE sounds like, but you can still tell it is them.
The first time I heard it was when it was played on Triple J, it seriously made me cry! It is now my new favourite song. I love it!
I'm scared to connect my iPod to iTunes to see how many times I have played it but I'll do it right now....
For Another Day plays total, not including when I played it over and over again on the album stream = 46 times
HOLY SHEET!

Still waiting for the album to be dispatched by JB. Sucks having to wait, European releases are dispatched early and arrive on the Saturday before the official Monday release!
