Howdy.. I'm starting a new thread because I can. And it doesn't really fit in the guitar thread.
After strumming an acoustic 12-string quite a lot lately, and listening to a whole lot of Diesel.. Just wondering if anyone can come up with some 12-String electric guits on the market?
I know that Maton makes a 12-string Mastersound (I hate the ugly holes they used though :-( )and of course there's the Burns Double Six made famous by Chris on the End of the World solo. And we all know Rickenbacker does a fine 12 String electric.
Anyone know of other models?? It's the type of thing I won't buy until I have bought every other guitar I want, but I'm just interested to see what is out there? I think they're pretty damn cool. Even cheap one's would be pretty cool I guess.

im not a fan of rickies, but they have really nice 12 strings. ive seen a Gibson SG 12 string on a video once, it looked pretty cool, but im thinking it must of been a one off custom thing becasue ive never seen anything else on it.
fender makes a 12 string strat aswell i think....

also: restringing a 12 string: one of the most annoying jobs on the planet. then trying to tune the thing afterwards. gah.

Ah tell me about it! I restrung my cousins 12string (78 Takamine) a while ago and it took about a week to settle.. But now it's a dream to play.. Loving it.
If I was going to design a 12 string, I'd stick a set of locking mini Grover rotomatics on it

yea, i agree, im suprised that locking tuners arent standard for most 12 strings, if not for tuning stability, atleast for the quick restrings. i liek to take my time and give the guitar a good clean when i restring, but ive had to quickly restring the gretsch a few times, and the locking tuners make it such a quick and easy job.
my friends dad has a cole clark acoustic 12 string (FL12? its based on the FL2 model i think, but with 12 strings) and they sound great, he has a really heavy gauge string on it, and keeps it in D tuning (just everything 2 steps down), its got a really good sound to it.

And an abortion of a guitar looks wise.. :ermm: just my opinion anyhow! :p
I know Gretsch wants to preserve the original characteristics of the old school.. But Maaaaaannn I think they should start offering more models with locking tuners as standard.. It's a no-brainer with a bigsby yeah?

haha yea it looks ugly as all fuck. but im assuming itd sound ace lol.
i agree with your last statement. i know Gretsch are trying to keep the whole thing historically correct, but the guitars are better with some modern changes. look at the Power Tenny, the LTV-anni's, and the setzer range. they take the best of the old, and add the new and improved parts. i can only imagin how hard long and difficult it would be restringing a bigsby without locking tuners...

Urgh.. I don't have to imagine. It's easily do-able.. But it takes about twice as long. Anyhow, those days are behind me now! Locking baby!

I've always been a big fan of the ricky 12 strings. sounded great, though I have to say I found the neck a little sticky somehow. I think it was just cos it was new. It's one of those guitars I would just buy if money was never an issue.

How so?? Not disagreeing, I just struggle with definition of this word. Do you mean because they are so deliberately simple??

Like they're obscure but ridiculously popular at the same time, that's my understanding of the word anyway. I still like them though
