View Full Version : Myer Annual Xmas Charity Album
From the Facebook page:
ANOTHER solo recording from Mr. Chris Cheney folks!
This one is included on Myer's annual charity Christmas album, and it includes a whole host of great Australian talent. Best of all, sales of the album raises important money for The Salvation Army. Get it here.

Knew about this for a few weeks now. Very cool stuff!

Yup, you can get it on iTunes Australia. I tried to get it by jumping countries but iTunes stopped me, damnit :p

I wonder if he played all the instruments on this one. I thought maybe this could be a re-worked November given that the lyrics for November seemed to mention "marching on the street" but having never heard that, I doubt it. Street Parade is really Christmas-y, it's nice.

Anyone else get the feeling i have that this will be the last Living End album?
Seems like Chris is gearing up more and more for some solo work.

Ah, I get into quite the whirl thinking about that...

I wouldn't be too worried, watch this video for more on that (and try not to cringe at the interviewer):
http://www.undercover.fm/videos/218
OR, just read it here if the video won't load:
Interviewer: Have you ever contemplated a solo album?
Cheney: No, not really - we've always got a lot of songs leftover that don't fit what The Living End does, and I'm always writing lots of different tunes... and maybe one day, or maybe writing for other people, or just... the art of, you know, putting a song together and the whole construction is something that I really really enjoy. And it goes way beyond, y'know, three chords and a whole lot of sweat - I really put a lot of effort into chord structure and stuff like that, so maybe writing for other people would be something I'd like to do further down the track.

They could be like foo fighters... They all have side projects going on all the time, yet sill pump out an album ever now and then.
If they broke up, the world would end, imo.
that's a lovely song! Such a great surprise for me that Chris is doing xmas songs now :p very unusual vocals there.
Correct me if i'm wrong but the liner notes say:
Street Parade
Chris Cheney - Universal Music Publishing
CHRIS CHENEY
(then all the producing mixing info)
No listing of other session muso's and doesnt cound like Andy and Scott so maybe chris did write and record the whole thing himself? Maybe loops and samples on his computer?
Did he write the song? Or is it an old traditional song that isnt very well known...?
P.S. there is a nice version of Tim MInchin's song 'white wine in the sun' too by kate miller heidke..
Oh joy, I work for Myer and they play this non-stop during xmas time, gets on your nerves after about 1 hour, at least Kasey Chambers isn't on this one, my god that woman cannot sing. Like Tim Rogers last year, Cheney's song should be the shining light on what is mostly crap
Google didn't recognize the lyrics "Don't you remember the street parade when the brass band started to play"

I don't feel the need to worry, remember we're talking about the man who would rather have the living end logo on his signature gretsch than his own signtature...

don't forget he drew that logo anyway :p and he has his signature on the other side. but this doesn't mean anything.
loved the song. also, I couldn't recognise Chris' voice in some bits  but it was very nice song in any case! wonder how he recorded it all alone
So for us who dont use Itunes, Is it an original or cover ?
From memory, it comes out on CD each year. But it also could appear on other sites such as Bigpond Music, Bandit.FM etc.
Also Thread title Fail on my behalf. Though it has been fixed before anyone picked up on it.

of course I cannot rely on my memory for 100%, but that's what I remember about TLE early years :ermm:

According to the most recent TLE news mailout, Street Parade "features the very fine drumming skills of Children Collide's Ryan Caesar"!

You're correct. Chris (and Scott) did alot of the early artwork...like Hellbound, and some of the bits on Self Titled.

Any way to get it outside Australia?
Unless you know how to manipulate iTunes so you can purchase from the Australian store, there isn't any other way (as far as I know)
Try looking on www.myer.com.au to see if they have anything on there.

I don't use iTunes so i can't even get it WITHIN Australia.
Ditto.
And to whoever was asking earlier, to the best of my understanding, this number was a solo project for Chris. And he's been doing alot of writing that may or may not show up as TLE material in the future :)

I work at Myer and they play that bloody cd on shuffle all day every day. It's soooooo rubbish!! They're not even fun Christmas songs (which I love), they're all horrible contempory Christmas songs or "classics" such as Little Drummer Boy sung by Delta Goodrem. Makes me want to rip my ears off. Especially after a 12hr shift.
Street Parade was my favourite though, and I didn't even know it was Chris! Can't believe I didn't recognise his voice.
But yeah, I've heard every song about a million times, I can't believe there's still another bloody month of it before Christmas is over!!!!

I'm the only one in my family who hasn't worked in Myer. I'm very used to hearing the bitching about the constant replaying of xmas cd!

related to this cd:
The herald sun and the salvos (kind of but mostly the herald sun) chucked a tizzy about 'white wine in the sun" written by tim minchin (but sang by kate miller-heidke on the cd)
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/anti-christian-song-is-featured-on-christmas-cd/story-e6frf7l6-1225957390578
I wouldn't even say the song is anti-christian. It's mostly just a ridiculously sweet song! laaaaame.
*edit*
here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCNvZqpa-7Q) tim minchin's version.
