Letters to the editors are always pretty retarded.

Haha I opened this expecting to see keith richards babbling on about Chris's guitar playing or something :p

Jodez

Haha thats the dumbest thing ever :p

Julian

I agree with the first letter

Grumma
02-28-2007, 03:28 PM
Yeah I'd have to say that.

His views may seem a little strong but they're generally correct in the most part

That is exactly what I was expecting too! I was let down...

Yeah, he does come on a bit to strongly and he isn't doing TLE any favours carrying on like that, but I have to agree with him when he points out who has been on the cover (Lindsay Lohan? come on dude)

I actually meant the first reply one. From Hannah

Grumma

wasted youth?!!!?!?!?

Isn't that a Bruce Dickinson solo song?

And Missy Higgins is a talent mecca. Whether you like her music or not you're a "total dickweed" if you can't see that.

Grumma

Talented in having one of the most annoying singing voices in Australia?

I don't have any problem with it. Must be you.

Me and everyone else

I like some of her songs. My auntie thinks I like her heaps though because Missy reminds my auntie of me

The standard of Rolling Stone has dropped over the years so the guy makes a valid point but thers no way he should be going off his tree like that!

and the replies are a bit of slap in the face too.

I like her also ... for the fact that she is able to write her own songs and perform them pretty well. She's also probably the only chick who can pull off that haircut as well.

That guy went ballistic. Isn't Rolling Stone meant to make reports about pop-culture and trends rather than just sticking to raw Rock 'n' Roll? Rock 'n' Roll was the pop thing back then but it's a different animal during the naughties...

Grumma
03-01-2007, 03:54 PM
I think Seth Putnam or Chris Barnes should write in ;)

Dude clearly knows nothing about Jeff Buckley either. Hallelujah was the cover he was talking about, but people are equally as familiar with the song grace. Fucking incredible album. Jeff was an incredible songwriter with an incredible voice. Fucking idiot.
He's doing TLE absolutely no favours writing in with shit like that. Much better ways he could have put it... and in about half the space as well. What an idiot.

You post was essentially a mirror of that dude's letter! Oh the irony.

Ah Trey Parker...

I liked the point in one of the reply letters, "fans despereately staying with them", haha.
thats pretty true. I know that the last show I went was more out of some kind of weird loyalty or tradition rather than me actually really getting into the new stuff.

Anyway, dumb letter. Rants should be kept to the internet, duh.

Grumma

lawl.

Hmm actually you make a point there.
SOE had 2 decent songs (Wake Up and Whats On Your Radio) but for me the rest was pretty uninteresting.

Bring back the days of POS, WER and FHOI I says!

Bec
03-02-2007, 03:59 PM
I missed out on those days the first time round so I really hope they do bring 'em back, or something just as good/better.
I like WOYR and Reborn from SOE, not really too keen on the rest.

The other two covers, Corpus Christi Carol and Lilac Wine are imo 2 of the weaker songs on Grace. The whole his best songs were covers argument is stupid. Jeff was such a creative songwriter, he's probably my favourite singer, songwriter and I think he was underrated as a guitarist too. The Living End will never do as much for music as Jeff did.

If I knew who he was I'd probably agree with you

This was an intense topic...

I'm actually a bit worked up, hah perhaps I'm too opinionated or too caring. I don't know if I'm more pissed because the guy was dissing on Jeff Buckley to make TLE sound more deserving of the cover or that some of you guys actually are sticking around to hope they'll reverse their career to start playing songs more similar to their first album.

I'm assuming Jeff Buckley must have quite the following over in Australia? I don't think he ever had a cover of Rolling Stone in the states, it's a very cult following here. Nonetheless I think he's an amazingly brilliant creative artist. I'd like to see if that kid can sing like Jeff Buckley, then maybe he could consider calling him talentless. I own a lot of his other demo and live albums and they're mind blowing, and most of those songs are alll originals.

It does surprise me that The Living End haven't been on a cover for over 10 years, or something, but have continued to achieve number one status.

As far as them going back to writing songs that are more like Prisoner of Society or their EPs, I'd say don't hold your breath. I love that stuff, but they've only progressed with each album. I love SOE, I don't know if I've ever felt like that about an album. I see them only progressing more. It's a bummer you guys could only find 3 or so songs and the rest you found uninteresting.

Ok, I'm finished my rant now.

Grumma

Everyone else seems to know about Jeff Buckley but I only first heard about him in this thread

That's because you are a musical ignoramous.
