Arin's Dual Rectifier Repaint :)

hey dudes!
thought i'd make a new thread about something i'm doing if ya'll are interested !

Recently got bored of the standard look of my dual rectifier and have been thinking about painting it matte black as some of the custom shop mesa' ones come out like it and i fucking love the look of it!

just thought i'd make a little blog of my updates !


first i used a heat gun on the faceplate because its held on with industrial strength double sided tape so i had to heat it up and make it soft. then i pulled it off, prying it with a flat head screw driver.

that left the head looking like this !

i then peeled off the remaining double sided tape from the amp and it looked like this !

after doing some reading up on how to paint steel, i went off to bunnings and bought some 240 grit sand paper, some self priming matte black spray paint and some industrial strength double sided tape!

i sanded the whole of the face plate making it look like this.

then i sprayed it once with the paint.
i plan on doing like 2 - 4 coats of paint.

thats right after the first coat so its still wet!


and this is like 10 mins later so its still wet but here is the amp and the faceplate together !

In the days to come, i will coat it a couple more times and then put it all back together!

Hehehe... Good work, Arin! Looks schmicko. Love the 'matte' finish - much better than that high gloss craaaaapola.

Not knowing much about the build of Mesa's I must admit I actually said out loud "whatdafuck!?" when I saw that tube contingent. But then I did the research as to what they are. Very interesting. 5u4's are a strangely cool looking tooob.

okay.
little bit of an update.
after letting the first coat dry i could see there were some bits that didn't cover as well as i thought. gave it another coat today and its looking fucking tough as!

thanks man. no pink here. someone suggested orange as im going to have an orange 4x12 but i was like nahhhhh! maybe i'll get it tolexed in orange :P

Haha dude, the other guitarist in my old band had to! He bought an early nineties triple rec from the states and all the tubes were smashed when it arrived. $550 bucks later....

No shit haha. Still, ended up being $2,500 all up I think, which is a liiiitle bit cheaper than a new one haha.

That's awesome on the cab! I'm still in two minds about getting a mills or not! I'm sure it'd be awesome, but I'm just not 100% if it's for me yet. Thinking maybe getting greenbacks in it, but I really want some headroom in the cab too...ehh Ill work it out haha.
