Ok, I honestly don't know too much about what I'm going to talk about right now so I'm hoping someone else does.

I got this idea from the Silverchair (http://www.chairpage.com/contact/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5262) forums.

So, DC++ is a chat/filesharing program within which you can create hubs, which are like chat rooms. But on top of chatting to people you can see/download the files in other peoples' shared folders.

Someone created a Silverchair one and it's great for getting videos and bootlegs and things. You can create it so that there's a password entry too.

So, yeah... I have no idea how to make one of these myself, but I thought if someone else had any expertise in DC++ or wanted to learn to, it would be a great idea.

I've used a DC++ hub before, for another band I like, but I got fed up with the program because all the stuff I tried to download was usually unavailable. But yeah, never know...could work.

It could be a good idea, but naturally we can't offer anything that is commercially available on CD or Not released at all.

Yeah, that's a given.

what about things like on the video thread of this forum??

Kev

what about things like on the video thread of this forum??

This is from the taping policy sticky.

So if it's not available to be legally purchased on a CD or through Itunes/msn music/bigpond music or available on the front page of http://www.thelivingend.com or through their official myspace profile: http://www.myspace.com/thelivingend then IT IS NOT to be shared at all.

So that means if for example The Living End perform a new track on the radio live to air, or the radio station plays a new unreleased track, then you are not to share it at all. This includes via this forum (Private Messaging or through posting in a thread).

'B Sides' are not to be shared as they are still available for purchase through the online store, record stores etc.

Sharing of new release material and b-sides and unreleased material is not on here at the forums, and may result in a warning given to you via our moderators/administrative peoples.

Amateur still photography is allowed at The Living End shows. You will not, however, be allowed to use any professional quality cameras (detachable lens, detachable flashes, tripods etc) without prior consent from the band's publicist and appropriate photo pass for that show. Only personal cameras will be allowed into the show.

Video clips for the singles cannot be uploaded to the internet. As these are available on DVD (see From Here On It and Live at Festival Hall)

The selling of bootlegged material is illegal and will not be tolerated. So please. If you see someone selling Bootlegged material (either at a market, on ebay etc) please tell the right people.

Could work, but i forsee it falling in a heap quite quickly.

Yeah, I could see that happening as well.

I'd rather stick with the Megaupload links.

I would rather someone rich came along and paid my website fees so i could host a whole dump of media. Then I'd just host everything and it'd be sweet.

Or you could just take down some sets that have been there for ages and put new ones up!

The idea is cool but I'm worried that people would use it inappropriately by sharing the wrong kind of things like b-sides and stuff which are available on cd's, but just hard to find.

That doesn't give me space or bandwith for Video sets!

So? It might make you smarter. And probably give you something better to do than what you're doing now.

essentially all you'd need to do is host the DC server, and everyone else hosts the files, so the bandwidth through you would be minimal.

but i can see it falling in a heap as well.

Well, why don't we see it falling in a heap in practise, after a brief period of glory? :)

The Dying Start

That would require effort of some kind.

What about our old FTP server? Why did that die again - Trav ran outta resources or something, right? (I really should remember this, since I was moderating it.)

Anyway, someone with unlimited traffic (say, in Germany, b/c their plans have that) could provide the hardware, Trav/whoever provides the knowhow, and <person> spends a bit of time to moderate the content, and off we go.

I've been considering setting my Xbox up as an FTP server to do just that, but haven't because: a) I haven't the time, and; b) I'm sharing the connection with other people.

Any other helpful, techy Germans out there? Yvonne?

Kick those other bums off your connection, Martin.

That's my boy. Great draft. Might want to make it a little more blunt. Just so there's no confusion amongst the plebs.

Hello Everyone,

It's been awhile i know, but nope i'm not dead.

Anywho, i might be able to host this file server for you guys, as i just got adsl2+ installed the other day and have 1mb/s upload speeds and unlimited upload quota.

Let me just see if my ms home server will support some soft of web hosting on it.

I'll get back to you.

Ps. Glenn if it does work i might even be able to offer you web hosting with upto 200gb of storage for your site. (i even have a static ip for your domain name).

Trav.

The web server is up and running and can be accessed from the computerinterweb.

Still to done;

* Upload scirpt to put and view your submitted files

Shouldn't take more then a few days.

Ok everything seems to be working and running on my end...

You may begin testing to make sure its all good before i unleash it on everyone.

You may access what i have dubbed The Living End Archive at this address:

http://archive.tleteam.com

Let me know how it goes... and let me know if i need to allow more file types.

Colezy

Looks good and is working well, Trav.
I reckon thats all the file types we'd need. Don't know what anyone else thinks though...

Thanks!!
